Do stay and join us for tea and coffee aſter the service. Dear Friends, When I think of the symbol of a cross I usually see it as an empty one, probably because of Jesusresurrecon. It is primarily on Good Friday or when taking Holy Communion that in my minds eye I see Jesus there. For many Chrisans, however, parcularly those of the Roman Catholic denominaon, the cross is synonymous with the crucified Christ; with his suffering. I was reminded of this as I read Godfrey Birlls reflecon. He has wrien: When I look at the blood all I see is love, love, love. When I stop at the cross I can see the love of God. But I cant see compeon. I cant see hierarchy. I cant see pride or prejudice or abuse of authority. I cant see lust for power. I cant see manipulaon. I cant see rage or anger or selfish ambion. I cant see unforgiveness. I cant see hate or envy. I cant see stupid fighng or bierness, or jealousy. I cant see empire building. I cant see self-importance. I cant see back-stabbing or vanity or arrogance. I see surrender, sacrifice, salvaon, humility, righteousness, faithfulness, grace, forgiveness, Love! LoveloveWhen I stop!...at the cross I can see the love of God. The emphasis the Roman Catholic Church places on Jesusshared experience with humanity through his suffering and sacrifice is something we can learn from, because it is one way in which our faith may be of relevance to the lives of so many we came into contact with, day by day. Who hasnt ever suffered in one way or another? Jesus has been there and endured because of his love for you, me and every other person. Welcome to Wellington Methodist Church! At the top of New Street, the church seeks to serve town and people and offers good news for all. If you are here for the first time or just visiting the area you are welcome. Please feel at home and if you would like to know more about the work of the Church please ask, or fill in one of the contact leaflet sheets to join the mailing/email list. Do stay and join us for tea and coffee after the service. Dear Friends, When I think of the symbol of a cross I usually see it as an empty one, probably because of Jesus’ resurrection. It is primarily on Good Friday or when taking Holy Communion that in my mind’s eye I see Jesus there. For many Christians, however, particularly those of the Roman Catholic denomination, the cross is synonymous with the crucified Christ; with his suffering. I was reminded of this as I read Godfrey Birtill’s reflection. He has written: When I look at the blood all I see is love, love, love. When I stop at the cross I can see the love of God. But I can’t see competition. I can’t see hierarchy. I can’t see pride or prejudice or abuse of authority. I can’t see lust for power. I can’t see manipulation. I can’t see rage or anger or selfish ambition. I can’t see unforgiveness. I can’t see hate or envy. I can’t see stupid fighting or bitterness, or jealousy. I can’t see empire building. I can’t see self-importance. I can’t see back-stabbing or vanity or arrogance. I see surrender, sacrifice, salvation, humility, righteousness, faithfulness, grace, forgiveness, Love! Love… love… When I stop!...at the cross I can see the love of God. The emphasis the Roman Catholic Church places on Jesus’shared experience with humanity through his suffering and sacrifice is something we can learn from, because it is one way in which our faith may be of relevance to the lives of so many we came into contact with, day by day. Soup Lunches There will be no soup lunch in September as there will be a bring and share lunch on 16th Sept as part of the Weekend Away Home event. And on 7th October there will be a harvest lunch. More details to follow.

Food Bank Urgent Appeal from Dawley Christian Centre Our cupboards are almost bare. We urgently need tinned meat, vegetables, cereals, toiletries, soap, shampoo etc. Please place any donations in the trolley in the hall.

Shoebox Appeal With the retirement of Marlene as the Shoe Box coordinator, it was decided this year by the Church Council that the church would not support the Shoe Box Appeal. Items similar to what would be in the boxes i.e. toiletries and gift sets can be placed in gift bags on a table next to the trolley, where they will be dedicated and taken to the Food Bank to be distributed to children of families using the Food Bank.
