or two months in advance. Instruction is held on the Monday before

XXII SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
The prophet, as the spokesman of God, transmits his oracles, his judgments on the conduct of men and their calls to conversion. Their vision of things makes them perceive their meaning and scope. He feels the future that God has projected, and prepares it. That is why he is often obliged to oppose the established order, whose faults and defects he points unambiguously. He could be tolerated to say: "What you do is wrong!". But he continually questions the situation: "Do not think that they can continue like this, that there is nothing better to do!". Some cannot bear to publicly denounce their bad behavior, let alone their hidden intentions, more or less perverse. Others would want me to leave them in peace, to conform, like everyone else, to their goodwill. The prophet is annoying, but he himself is in a heart-breaking situation, above his strength, as Jeremiah testi-fies pathetically. I did not imagine his mission would be so painful. The temptation to avoid it is great. But it is impossible to escape the "seduction" of God, to the ani-mating fire of the Spirit. Jesus, as a prophet, was also the object of ridicule and malicious hostilities. Their righteousness of inten-tion and the authenticity of his mission was questioned. They accused him of being an agent of Satan (Matt. 9:34) and killed him. Like Jeremiah, he asked that, if it were possible, the chalice of his sufferings should be taken away from him, and on the cross the cry of the righteous on the verge of despair sprang from his lips: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? "(Matthew 27:46, Ps 21: 2). However, nothing could make him deviate from his mission, because he was unfailingly united to the will of God, his Father, and he decidedly took the road to Jerusalem, knowing what awaited him there. Therefore, when Peter, in good faith but behaving as a true tempter, wanted to dissuade him, Jesus emphatically rejected the apostle, who did not understand that what was at stake was nothing less than the salvation of the world. Therefore, for the disciples to lose their lives is the only way to save them. Jesus was able to walk to the cross because he knew he was deeply loved by his Father. Let us first teach the man that the Father loves him, and then he will also accept suffering and the cross ... It is a fact that there is little sensitivity to these values, and this fact must be inscribed in the passive of current spirituality; but where these values reappear, it also begins to spread and to make love again. After all, this deficiency may well permit a future fruitfulness: in as much as the cross can no longer be lived, as has sometimes happened, separated from the dynamism of love, Jesus has experi-enced the cross for having loved, knowing himself loved ... Christianity, the way of those who "go with Jesus", is not a "pain", it is not the search for pain for pain, but follow him, that conquers everything and loves everyone.

El profeta, como portavoz de Dios, transmite sus oráculos, sus juicios sobre la conducta de los hombres y sus llamadas a la conversión. Su visión de las cosas hace percibir su signifi-cado y su alcance. Presiente el futuro que Dios tiene proyecta-do, y lo prepara. Por eso se encuentra a menudo en la obliga-ción de oponerse al orden establecido, cuyos fallos y defectos señala sin ambigüedad. Se podría tolerar que dijera: “¡Lo que haces está mal!”. Pero es que cuestiona continuamente la si-tuación: “¡No piensen que pueden seguir así, que no hay nada mejor que hacer!”. Unos no soportan que denuncie pública-mente su mal comportamiento, y menos aún sus intenciones ocultas, más o menos perversas. Otros querrían que los dejara en paz, que se conformara, como todo el mundo, con su buena voluntad. El profeta molesta, pero él mismo se encuentra en una situación desgarradora, por encima de sus fuerzas, como testimonia Jeremías de forma paté2tica. No imaginaba que su misión sería tan dolorosa. La tentación de eludirla es grande. Pero resulta imposible sustraerse a la “seducción” de Dios, al fuego animador del Espíritu.
Jesús, como profeta, también fue objeto de burlas y malé-volas hostilidades. Se pusieron en duda su rectitud de inten-ción y la autenticidad de su misión. Llegaron a acusarlo de ser un agente de Satanás (Mt. 9:34) y lo mataron. Como Jere-mías, pidió que, si era posible, se apartara de él el cáliz de sus sufrimientos, y en la cruz se brotó de sus labios el grito del justo al borde de la desesperación: “Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado?” (Mt. 27:46; Sal. 21:2). Sin embar-go, nada pudo lograr que se desviara de su misión, porque estaba indefectiblemente unido a la voluntad de Dios, su Pa-dre, y tomó decididamente el camino hacia Jerusalén, sabien-do lo que allí le esperaba. Por eso, cuando Pedro, de buena fe pero comportándose como verdadero tentador, quiso disuadir-lo, Jesús rechazó enérgicamente al apóstol, que no compren-día que lo que estaba en juego era nada menos que la salva-ción del mundo. Por consiguiente, también para los discípulos perder la vida es el único modo de salvarla.
Jesús pudo caminar hacia la cruz porque se sabía profunda-mente amado por su Padre. Enseñemos en primer lugar al hombre que el Padre lo ama, y entonces aceptara también el sufrimiento y la cruz…Es un hecho que existe poca sensibili-dad hacia estos valores, y hay que inscribir este hecho en el pasivo de la espiritualidad actual; pero allí donde se ven re-aparecer estos valores empieza también a difundirse y a hacer-se nuevamente actico el amor. Después de todo, esta deficien-cia bien podría permitir una próxima fecundidad: en la medida en que la cruz no pueda vivirse ya, como ha ocurrido a veces, separada del dinamismo del amor, Jesús ha experimentado la cruz por haber amado, sabiéndose amado… El cristianismo, el camino de los que “van con Jesús”, no es un “dolorismo”, no es la búsqueda del dolor por el dolor, per es seguirlo a él, que lo conquista todo y ama a todos.
