Family Perspectives Today’s gospel reminds us that we have been given authority over the unclean spirits that constantly invade our homes and families. The list of unclean spirits includes contempt, envy, deceit, violence, substance abuse, hatred, pornography, and disrespect. The gospel makes it clear that we don’t need a lot of equipment to speak our against these evils...we already have the Holy Spirit as our advocate and guide.
The FEST As summer quickly passes by, don’t miss out on the highlight of summer-The FEST. It’s an amaz-ing day of faith, family and fun. Join us on the
132 acres of the Brookside Reservation to hear the best Chris-tian artist/bands: We are Messengers, Tauren Wells, Danny Gokey, and for King and Country. It’s going to be great to come together to celebrate our faith at Mass with Bishop Malesic at 8 pm. Get all the details and ticket information by going to www.theFEST.us. For over 20 years, The FEST has been a high point of the summer season for thousands across our region. Invite your family and friends to join you at The FEST.
Sign up for your craft kit today!
The FEST 2021 will be a great day for people of all ages.-including our youngest FEST-goers! We have great crafts, activities, and entertainment in our Kids Activities Area. Make sure you get your tickets today to join us in person on Sunday August 8th—there’s something for the whole family!
RENTING THE PARISH GROUNDS
After discussions and reflection it is my decision that the par-ish will not rent our facilities to parishioners and non parish-ioners alike for showers parties etc. The Social Hall and Gym are reserved for parish functions and parish groups. There are two exceptions. At the discretion of the pastor Catholic groups and parishes may us the parish grounds and facilities for Faith based meetings. The other exception is for funeral luncheons for deceased parishioners only. Those luncheons are not free there is a cost set by the cook.
The work that it entails to manage rentals is daunting. Every-one must purchase a $110 liability insurance policy and a liquor license if alcohol is being served. More and more par-ishes are not renting their facilities due to the extra work and expense. We are a church and here to monitor who has the right insurance or paid or cleaned up the hall.
I also want to thank those who worked so hard doing rentals in the past.
St. Patrick Missionary weekend The Society for the Propagation of the Faith is established in every diocese to organize support for the missions. Each year, it appeals for funds on Mission Sunday. Also, every year, it brings to each parish, one of the groups working in the missions to speak about their particular work. This year, the St. Patrick Fathers, who work in Africa, South America and the Caribbean will speak at our parish this weekend.
First Friday Forum of Lorain County, August 6, 2021 ▪ Speaker Bishop Edward Malesic
Cleveland Magazine names the 12th bishop of Cleveland one of the most interesting people of 2021. (Jan 4, 2021) “His warmth, quick laugh and down-to-earth way of speaking underscore his upbringing in a factory town near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. And his handling of the sex abuse scandal in Pennsylvania attests to his commitment to transparency and honesty. “The thought of entering the ministry had never occurred to Malesic — until he was 19 years old and at a Catholic retreat. “I was walking around the parking lot and I simply looked up and said, ‘Oh, you want me to be a priest.’ It doesn’t always happen like that, but to me it was very clear.” While serving as the bishop of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, he addressed the past abuse in his diocese by apologizing for the cover-ups of his predecessors and releasing a list of all 22 credibly accused priests. “Evil tries to creep into even the best institution. You have to always be on your guard against evil no matter who you are. And you have to be transparent. You have to get things out there and do the best you can.”
Malesic is most impressed by small acts of kindness that occur in everyday lives. “I’ve been around so many big leaders and big things, but it’s the little things that impress me, like nurses who pray with their patients who have COVID.”
