Talk For WritingTalk For Writing is an initiative by Pie Corbett.

He says, "If children learn stories orally, it improves the

quality of their writing and develops the children's self confidence as story tellers. If a child knows a story really well, it makes the task of writing easier because they do not have to compose at the same time as tackling handwriting, spelling and punctuation.“

Singapore maths is a method of teaching.

It is now used across many schools in the UK.

Marking & Homework

• Marking – highlighting!Yellow: good features, things you are doing wellOrange: ‘look again’, opportunities to improve

• Homework – literacy and numeracy focus Given out on Thursday, returned on Wednesday in homework folder.

• Spellings – securing and extending phonic patternsGiven out on Thursday, to be quizzed on the following Wednesday!

Behaviour Policy

• Rewarding good behaviour:

Team points, ‘Star of the Day’, Golden Assembly (with a certificate on Friday), Golden Time (every Friday). • Sanctioning low level inappropriate behaviour.

Warnings given, then loss of Golden Time.

More serious incidents result in immediate loss of

Golden Time, and referral to HT and DHT.

Literacy• Read daily, preferably in a quiet place (no distractions!) – just for 5 mins!• Write a comment in their Reading Record each time you read with your

child to assist us with your child’s progress. (3 times a week min)• Use the Reading Record prompts (inside front cover) to check and extend

your child’s understanding – encourage, enthuse and question them!• Get them talking – giving their opinions and reasons, speaking in

sentences.• Encourage regular visits to your local library, to explore different types of

books – encourage reading for pleasure!

Numeracy• Use everyday, real-life situations to put maths vocabulary into

context, e.g. time (going to school), money (shopping), measuring and fractions (cooking).

• Practice times tables and number facts with children.

Housekeeping• Label everything!

Uniform, P.E. kit and bags, Book Bags

• Attendance & Punctuality Activities begin from the very start of the day - help your child not to miss out or have to catch up!

• Medical NeedsTell the infant office so that any needs can be documented and communicated to necessary staff.

• Home time is at 3pmInform the infant office of all adults authorised to

collect your child for safety.

Stress-free SATs• Do Not Worry!!!

• Beginning in the Summer Term.

• Take place over a 3 - 4 week period.

• Reading, writing (inc. spelling and grammar) and maths (arithmetic and reasoning).

• Results included in child’s end of year report.
