Welcome to the eighth annual Spring Open House at Cleveland State University!

We’re excited to have you on campus to show you our state-of-the-art

learning spaces, and to share with you the cutting-edge academic initiatives

and partnerships spanning Northeast Ohio’s business, government and

nonprofit sectors that are making CSU one of the top urban research

universities in the country.

For 2018, CSU has again been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as

COLLEGE 101

Learning about a college education can be as confusing as learning a new language or visiting a foreign country. This session breaks down the basic structure of a university, helps you understand the parts involved in earning a degree and explains in plain English some of the terminology you will encounter on any college campus.

HOW DO I PICK MY MAJOR?

Selecting an academic major is one of the most challenging aspects of the college experience. This session examines common myths and misconceptions about majors, the relationship between majors and careers, and key factors to consider when choosing your major. Whether you’re currently undecided about your major, or think you may already have decided on your major, this session offers a wealth of useful information.

CLASS OPPORTUNITY: GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS*

Learn the technology to organize, communicate, and understand spatial information for public, non-profit and

private organizations using maps, data and analysis. Presented by Dr. Thomas Hilde, Assistant Professor, Department of Urban Studies.

INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL AID

This session provides an opportunity for participants to learn about the financial aid application and awarding process. The cost of higher education and different types of financial aid will also be reviewed.

TRANSFERRING TO CSU

If you’re thinking about transferring to CSU from another college or university, attend this session to learn more about the transfer application process and the many resources available to help make your transition to CSU a success.

CLASS OPPORTUNITY: CREATIVE WRITING — POETRY IS FOR EVERYONE*

In this mock class, students will engage in a series of free writing activities to generate a draft of a freewheeling poem. Come get your creative juices flowing and explore the power of free writing to generate insights, make connections and have fun.

CLASS OPPORTUNITY: INTRODUCTION TO AFRICAN AMERICAN LITERATURE*

Participants will explore African American literature as a component of American history, beginning with the roles of its political mission on content and its African legacy o form, followed by an examination of fiction, prose and drama to better understand the politics of literacy in African American culture.

about their decision to attend the College of Business at CSU, classroom experiences, career exploration and internship opportunities. Also, learn about our new MBA program for students who complete our undergraduate BBA Degree Program — the BBA 2 MBA Program provides an easy transition for students interested in our graduate MBA program.

BASED ON A COLLABORATIVE, INTEGRATIVE, clinical model for teacher preparation, our Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, Special Education, Physical Education and Health, and Integrated licensure (grades 7-12) programs offer direct engagement with school students and ensure pre-service teachers develop the skills and experiences needed to become effective teachers. Committed to student engagement and success, the College also offers the Cleveland Fellows Program, made possible through a jointly funded initiative by the Cleveland Foundation and the Cleveland Municipal School District (CMSD). WASHKEWICZ COLLEGE OF ENGINEERINGTHE COLLEGE OFFERS majors in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering — all of which are available as a 4+1 Bachelor’s and Master’s, as well as Doctoral programs — plus graduate programs in Environmental, Software and Biomedical Engineering. Students learn in state-of-the-art classrooms, where professors draw on engineering expertise and incorporate projects from local companies into the curriculum. Outside the classroom, students participate in 17 active engineering student clubs and explore possible careers through internships and co-ops in organizations such as NASA, Parker Hannifin Corporation, Cleveland Clinic and more.

We also provide more than $700,000 in annual scholarships.

SCHOOL OF NURSINGMORE THAN 95% of School of Nursing students graduate on schedule and are in great demand by some of the best hospitals in the country, including Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and MetroHealth Medical Center, which also serve as sites for our students’ hands-on clinical experiences. In the classroom, students learn the latest techniques and technologies while practicing in our state-of-the-art

Nursing Resource Laboratory. The School features a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), as well as an accelerated BSN and RN to BSN programs for undergraduates.

The tour includes a walk down to ideastream’s Idea Center at Playhouse Square, where the School’s space, which includes panoramic views of downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie, is currently under construction. COLLEGE OF SCIENCES AND HEALTH PROFESSIONSMILLIONS OF DOLLARS of faculty grant funding each year mean that students are exposed to a range of cutting-edge research while benefitting from personalized graduation plans, plus access to both a professional staff advisor and a faculty advisor. Our exceptional facilities include renovated chemistry labs, the state-of-the-art Center for Innovation in the Medical Professions, a speech and hearing clinic, and a human gross anatomy lab. The Basic program is designed for students who are seeking a baccalaureate degree and licensure as a registered nurse. This traditional program is three years after admission to the program.

ACCELERATED BSN PROGRAM

The Accelerated program is an intense program that spans four consecutive semesters. It is designed for students who have a bachelor’s degree in another profession and want to transition into nursing.

RN TO BSN PROGRAM The RN to BSN program is offered to students who are already licensed RNs through a diploma or associate degree program. The nursing portion of this online program can be completed in three consecutive semesters.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (With a focus on population health) In the MSN program, students may choose one of four tracks: Specialized Populations Nursing Education Forensic Nursing Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) Students may also choose to pursue a joint MSN/MBA degree. The program is taught on a part-time basis, and all of the nursing courses in the MSN program are taught online.
