WELCOME TO KEGSWe are one of England’s leading state grammar schools, and have a history dating back to our foundation in 1551, and origins prior to that. Our reputation is built on sustained outstanding examination results, an ethos of equality and an openness to students of all social and ethnic backgrounds who gain a place here. We have a deep concern to support young people in developing their personal talents and interests and in learning to work with others. We mix a traditional emphasis on courtesy, personal conduct and respect for others, with a modern interest in the latest educational methods and research.

DEAR PARENTS AND CARERSThank you for your interest in KEGS and for visiting our Virtual Open Day today.

The challenging circumstances we all find ourselves in have made this year’s tours impossible to hold in the normal way but we have tried to find a replacement to being able to see us in action.

The first few pages show our academic performance compared to other schools, our exam results since 2012 and a guide to the likely 11+ score needed to secure a place at KEGS.

The remaining pages will guide you virtually around the school, giving you a taste of what we can offer your son.

I do hope that you will like what you see.

On 2 March 2020, the KEGS cut-offs were actually approximately:346 (in area) and 375 (out of area) – typically these will fall a little by September.

These were very similar to the March 2019 cut-offs and we expect that scores in future are likely to be around this level.

THE HALLThe Hall is at the heart of the school and is where we come together every week for whole school assemblies.

It is home to our major drama productions, music concerts, our annual prizegiving and parents evenings and briefings.

Throughout the year we hold many special events too, such as our Charities Week, House Music, House Drama and whole year group days like our Apprentice-style Enterprise Day in Year 9. Pictured is our Careers Carousel where older students receive careers advice from experts in their fields.

CLASSROOMS Our classrooms are the engine rooms of the school and are located together in subject areas.

Each room seats 30 students and are equipped with projectors and screens which enable teachers to call on a wide range of materials to enrich the learning experience.

On arrival in Year 7, students are allocated a form group and they have the majority of their lessons in these groups up to the end of Year 9.

Pictured is one of our Language classrooms. Students are allocated either French or German in Y7 and take their GCSE in Year 9. They can then add a second language in Y9.
