Glad Tidings Assembly of God

“Glad you are here with us!”

1 Samuel 14:1-7 (NKJV)

Now it happened one day that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison that is on the other side.” But he did not tell his father. 2 And Saul was sitting in the outskirts of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron. The people who were with him were about six hundred men…. 6 Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us. For nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or by few.” 7 So his armorbearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go then; here I am with you, according to your heart.”

TRUST GOD & DO SOMETHING!

1 Samuel 14:1-14

“Trust in God, but tie your camel.”

- Persian proverb

Trusting God means both letting go and listening, getting busy and going in the direction He leads. It means BOTH that we wait on Him for guidance and direction and leadership – AND it also means that we get going in the direction He points us in.

I.

YOU CAN’T JUST SIT THERE!

TRUSTING GOD DOES NOT MEAN YOU DO NOTHING

And Saul was sitting in the outskirts of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron. The people who were with him were about six hundred men (1 Sam 14:2).

“yashab” (yaw-shab’) “tarried” (KJV) …to tarry…to remain…to dwell…to inhabit.

Saul tarried. He was camped out. He was waiting. Saul sat in comfort under the shade of the tree.

1 Samuel 13:23-4:3 Saul chose to ignore the situation. Saul and his 600 men did nothing. They were “hanging out” just hoping something would happen. Too many of us are simply sitting around waiting for God to work.

“And Saul was sitting in the outskirts of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree …”

Saul was on the outskirts - trying not to lose, playing it safe.

You never win on the outskirts.

There are three kinds of people in church today: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who don’t know that anything is happening.

If all we do is wait on the right time, on the right conditions, on the right people, or the right atmosphere, then all we will ever do is sit around, talking, waiting, doing nothing …

“He who regards the wind will never sow, and he that observes the clouds will never reap” (Eccl. 11:4). Don’t wait on the wind, and don’t focus on the clouds. And if we wait to do anything for God, until we are absolutely sure that it’s the right thing, then we will only sit around and miss the miracles!

II.

TRUST IS ACTIVE AND POSITIVE

There is Power in Doing Something!

The Action of Jonathan: “Come let us go over…” (:6)“We will cross over…” (:8)

Motivation to do something – trust God

Courage to act – get up and do something

God is going to defeat the Philistines. But, He is waiting for someone to choose to move.

Jonathan did not wait for anybody else to move so that he could move.

Jonathan didn’t agonize over whether it was “God’s will for his life” to do this.

He wasn’t immobilized by indecision.

He acted completely out of faith, leaving the outcome in God’s hands.

The Strategy of Jonathan: (:8-13)

THE BIBLE SAID THERE WERE 4 LEPERS SITTING OUTSIDE THE CITY CONTEMPLATING WHETHER TO GO IN OR STAY OUT!

GOD HAD THE BLESSING WAITING ON THOSE LEPERS IT JUST TOOK A STEP OF FAITH. WE CAN STAY WHERE WE ARE BETWEEN THIS ROCK AND HARD PLACE OR WE CAN GO FORTH IN VICTORY

Sometimes, the danger is not saying, “I’m not going to do it” but in saying, “Next week, I’ll start.” We tell ourselves, next week. We’ll do it next week.

Just like Pharaoh when the whole of Egypt was filled with frogs (Exo 8), he called Moses to pray to God to take away the frogs. Moses asked, “When do you want God to get rid of the frogs.” He said, “Tomorrow.” (Exo 8:10)

Why tomorrow? Why one more night with the frogs?

1 Samuel 14:6 It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few.” (ESV)

Perhaps the LORD will help us, for nothing can hinder the LORD. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few! (NLT)

Come on now, let’s go across to these uncircumcised pagans. Maybe GOD will work for us. There’s no rule that says GOD can only deliver by using a big army. No one can stop GOD from saving when he sets his mind to it. (MSG)

But the LORD can help a few soldiers win a battle just as easily as he can help a whole army. Maybe the LORD will help us win this battle. (CEV)

SOMETIMES ALL YOU’VE GOT IS A

“MAYBE,” “PERHAPS”

Move Out on a Maybe!

Moving out on a "maybe" is not about senseless action, or trusting God to empower our every whim. There are times when you have to step out by faith, and that means that YOU WILL NOT BE SURE. To wait until you’re sure is not moving by faith. But if you will move out on a "maybe," then God can do an awesome work.

TRUST GOD TO TURN THE “MAYBE”

INTO A MIRACLE!

Don’t ask the Lord to guide your footsteps, if you’re not willing to move your feet

trust GOD &

DO WHAT YOU CAN Mark 2:1-12

Do what we can humanly do, and trust God for what only He can do. Have faith in God, and do not give up.

Without Jesus, the healing will be impossible. But without them, the healing will never be possible. Don’t undermine the impact of your small act.

We must DO WHAT WE CAN HUMANLY DO. God is looking for people with faith, people who can trust Him. Go and be a stretcher bearer!

Do Your Best and God Will Do the Rest

Esther 6:1-11

The book of James is a practical book that calls on Christians to JUST DO IT.

James 1:22, 21-27

Prov 24:30-34“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest…” (:33). It is a little laziness, a little procrastination, or a little complacency that eventually makes you the person you are today. A little... a little... over time and they will lead to great harm. On the other hand, when we are intentional about the ’little things’ in our lives – a little praying every day, a little reading of His Word each morning, we will find ourselves growing stronger over time. These little things will lead to a big thing in your life.

Do something no matter how small just do something. mission trip… Kidz Church … Traffic … Ushers

We all have some ability and we all can do something.

Do What You Can Do - Philippians 4:13.

I CAN DO … something … all things

Do what you can do.…Pray. Witness. Live like a Christian. You can make a difference for the Kingdom of God.

Do what you can do, and add in what God can do, and mountains will move before your path this year. Do what you can do through His power, and for His glory!

The eyes of God are searching the hearts, minds and spirits of His people to see if there will arise among us one who is willing….

to do something, to give something,

to share something, to build something,

to restore something, to repair something,

to renew something, to be something …

TRUST GOD &

"Do for others what you would like them to do for you…” Matthew 7:12 NLT Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. MSG These are words of Action - We take the initiative . Other Religions – Negative. Christianity – ActionDo - Original: ποιεω : to make, to be the author of, to produce, bear fruitThe golden rule is concerned with true love and with positive, active behavior. It is more than not doing wrong (lying, stealing, cheating). It is more than just doing good (helping, caring, giving). It is looking, searching, and seeking for ways to do the good that you want others to do to you. It is seeking ways to treat others just as you want them to treat you.

Take … … the Risks
