6. Useful Information

Social security number

You will get a provisionally social security number, when you become enrolled at the

university. The Study Office would like to get the information when you get the real one.

You just have to send an email to [email protected] with the information about

the provisionally one you get from the International Office (your birthday + three letters and

one number) – and the real one from the yellow security card you get from the State

County when you arrived. Please remember to do so, otherwise you will get the

provisionally one at your diploma.

Timetable and Courses

You will be able to find the timetables and courses for fall 2017 on Moodle:

https://www.moodle.aau.dk/

Aalborg University Library (AUB)

In the library you will find literature relevant for your studies at Aalborg University, as well

as the latest issue of academic journals (a plethora of these available via online

information about your study. Your timetable is there and possible cancellations will be

announced here. Much of the course literature is also available online via Moodle.

Information from the Study Secretary can also be found on Moodle such as list of

9

supervisors for project writing and exam schedules. During your study, Moodle is your

most important source of information – use it and enrol to the information forums.

7. Relevant Offices and Bodies at Aalborg University

The Study Board

The Board of Studies for Cross-Cultural Studies is the main administrative body for

students enrolled in the Tourism Programme. Some of the tasks of the Board are to plan

each semester, to evaluate the past semester and to grant exemptions from the

curriculum. Students occupy two out of four seats of the study board. Check out the

homepage to find out who represents the students at the moment:

http://www.en.cgs.aau.dk/education/postgraduate-programmes/the-Study-board-of-Cross-

cultural-studies

International Office

The International Office assists both foreign and Danish students. They help foreign

students with many of the practical issues related to being a foreign student at Aalborg

University. Among other things they arrange for you to have a Danish “buddy” assisting

you with practical issues. Moreover, the International Office can assist you in finding an

internship placement or a mobility stay abroad for your 9th sem. For further information visit

their homepage: http://internationaloffice.aau.dk/.

The Career Center

The Career Counselling Center is useful for students that are completing their studies and

in that connection are looking for job opportunities. The Career Center offers individual

counselling, and it also offers job-seeking courses for small groups. The office is located at

Fibigerstræde 15, 1 floor. Opening hours: Monday through Friday 10 pm – 3 pm. For

further information visit: http://www.en.aau.dk/

Study Advisor

The Study Advisor provides information about the different educations, rules of admission,

job opportunities, leave-of-absence, how to change your study, how to resign from the

university – just to mention a few.

11

Furthermore, the Student Counsellor for the Tourism Programme e-mail:

[email protected] is available for individual counselling concerning private issues.

The University Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy is available for counselling - or just for a talk, whenever you need

somebody to discuss an issue with - be it related to faith or not. The chaplains have offices

with regular office hours at the campus area in Fibigerstræde 15, room 2.233 and in

Studenterhuset, Gammel Torv 10, 1st floor.

Studentersamfundet (The Student Society)

Studentersamfundet is an organisation for all students at Aalborg University run by

volunteer students for the purpose of making your time of study as good as it can possible

be. Studentersamfundet is a leading actor in student policies at AAU, and is in dialogue

with central actors at the university. Studentersamfundet also has an international branch

with info for international students: http://studentersamfundet.aau.dk/. It is also the

organisations behind bars and cafés around campus (see Mærkbar below).

You will find Mærkbar in Kroghstræde 1, ground floor. The bar is open every Friday from

12 am to 8 pm. In Mærkbar you can buy beer and drinks. Many students often hang out in

Mærkbar on Fridays as it is a nice way of relaxing after a hard week at the University.

Studenterhuset (Student House)

Studenterhuset in Aalborg is another place where students meet. Studenterhuset is

situated on Gammel Torv 10, right next to the post office and Budolfi Church in central

Aalborg. Studenterhuset offers various events as e.g. lectures and concerts.

Throughout the year several concerts will take place at Studenterhuset. The entrance price

varies from concert to concert – some are even for free!
