Hello! Wake Up! Hello are you there? There is one more special gift God wants to share with you this holiday season. Are you ready?
Here it is..
WELCOME TO A BRAND NEW YEAR OF 2013 How many times do you wish you could start over with a clean slate, to receive a mulligan, a do-over, a brand-spanking fresh new start? I do believe we all desire that in our lives. If you fall into this category God has great news for you.
First of all He has graced you with a brand new year. 2012 has made the eternal history books and can never be written upon and the new year has come. Imagine that, a new year just waiting for your fingerprints and footsteps! This is also a time for personal reflection on how we can live this year differently. Will we be more forgiving, more understanding, more gracious, or more caring? If so, then this is the time to make those changes. But there is even better news…
The LORD God loves you so very much. You have seen His gift in the manger with the arrival of the Savior Jesus Christ. He and He alone is the Savior of the world who will be offered up as the ultimate sacrifice for you and me. This precious Savior will rise again victoriously on Easter and grants us forgiveness.
Yes forgiveness. This is so important for us. We daily make mistakes and sin. We daily need forgiveness from the Savior. He offers this freely to you and me. He offers us this ongoing gift as a testament and sign of His love. I hope this will be a wonderful year for you. May God bless it, May God bless you, and may we bless God.
Have a great 2013!

From the Deacon’s Desk…………………….…………….By Michael Yosko
So, I missed the January newsletter deadline. So much for
keeping an oft repeated New Year’s resolution about being on time or
early for deadlines. Of course, I’ve been very busy at work and …
(insert two or three other really good excuses here).
Many thanks to Mary Helen and Tayler for allowing me a little
extra time. But, while we are on the topic of New Year’s resolutions,
have you ever made them? Did you make one or more this year?
How’s it going?
I did a search for New Year resolutions on the Goodsearch search engine and was quite
surprised at the number of entries (hey, there’s another good reason for missing that deadline!).
There are web sites with many suggestions and samples. Among the top resolutions are to lose
weight, to spend more time with family, to start exercising, to get organized, to stop stressing
over little things, to get finances in order and to save more money and I even saw one to stop
wasting time hanging out on the beach with super models! Tall orders for some. The articles
report that most people say that they gave up during the first week of the year. One site gave
the following suggestions for keeping your resolutions:
Try to start slow, one resolution at a time
Try to be clear about what you want, it’s easier to lose drive about a vague resolution.
Chalk out a plan, organizing and managing generally produces better results.
Don’t wait to start planning on New Year’s only, chalk out the plan earlier so that you can
begin with the New Year.
Learn from the past, and try to avoid making the same mistakes again.
Be positive about your resolution, it’s a great motivator.
Yes, New Year’s resolutions can be tough but, if you’re looking to pursue some and
would like some suggestions, take a look at some of Paul’s words to the Philippians (chapter 4,
verses 8&9). He wrote, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there
is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about
these things. What you have learned and received and heard and
seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with
you.” Wow! What great ideas! I mean, how much could our lives be
changed and made better if we made an effort to pursue these goals? I
think I’m going to be keeping these in mind during this new year, and I
look forward to seeing you in church this Sunday!

TIM HAWKINS CHRISTIAN COMEDIAN Saturday, February 9 @7pm
Holy Cross is planning to take a group of youth and/or adults to see Tim Hawkins on Saturday, February 9 at Triumph Church in NEDERLAND!
Tickets: $21 each
*We have a block of 25 tickets available for purchase. Tickets are available one a first come; first serve basis. Please contact DCE Kristy Witek and/or
Marla Kieschnick to purchase tickets. Checks Payable To: Holy Cross Lutheran Church
If you have questions please contact Marla Kieschnick @409-728-1363. Since giving up his job as a grocery truck driver in 2002, Tim Hawkins has been forging the magical blend
between two comedic ideals: A genuinely funny comedy show that caters to the entire family. Is it realistic? Hawkins believes so. With over 100 million views on YouTube, 120+ sold out shows every year,
and a motley crew of 200K+ Facebook fans, Tim has started a gut-busting grassroots revolution of multi-generational proportions. But what's so special about this St. Louis native who is most notorious for
his wretched cow impersonations? Some would say it is his equally gifted and twisted approach to the medium. A self-taught guitarist, Hawkins will go note-for-note on everything from Skynyrd to Bon Jovi to
Prince, while dishing out flawless vocal imitations of Bono, Jason Aldean, and John Mayer... all within mere minutes. His stand-up material is vigorous, well-timed, and honed to perfection. However, the connection he makes with his fans goes deeper than that: "If you can't laugh at yourself, laugh at other people."* It is
this ability to show the brokenness of our human nature and simultaneously marvel in its hilarity which makes Tim such a unique artist.
A Very Special Thank You! This past fall we celebrated COMPASSION SUNDAY,
which is a national event that draws the attention of the Church to the needs of the world's poorest children.
On Compassion Sunday the Sunday School offering was gathered and given to DCE Kristy’s sponsored children,
Mukademari (10 years old) and Uwineza (6 years old) who live in Rwanda. To the left is a photo of Mukademari, with two of the goats her family was able to purchase with your
generous donations! Mukademari’s and Uwineza’s families send their sincere gratitude for your gracious
gift! Thank you for your ongoing support. If you would like to know more information about Compassion please go to
their website: http://www.compassion.com/
A Compassion table will be available at our Bob Lenz Outreach event on Thursday, February 21. A reminder also that our Sunday School
continues to sponsor Jean Komi (3 year old). We are committed to providing $38 each month to support Jean through Compassion!
14
Nationally-known speaker and author, Bob Lenz, will be re-turning to Nederland to speak at CO Wilson Middle School in the morning and Central Middle School in the afternoon on Thursday, February 21. We will follow up with a fabulous outreach event that evening at 6pm in our Family Life Cen-
ter. Everyone (all ages) is invited to attend this awesome event! Please begin praying about who you might invite to this event so they may hear about the love of Christ!
