“Jesus-Our Beautiful Gift”

The Gospel of Mark is considered one of the earliest gospel books. Mark’s narrative is sparser than that of Matthew, Luke or John. It contains puzzling and special stories about Jesus and His disciples. The author of Mark anchored the account of the life of Jesus in the words of the prophet Isaiah so that its Jewish hearers could under-stand His noble heritage and His connection to Judaism. Mark even starts the story with the fact that fellow Jude-ans were flocking to John the Baptist to confess their sins and to get baptized. The author seems to be telling the audience, see, this is your people! This is a story for you! In this story we Christians today are bound to the Jews. Just as the words of Isaiah connected the Judean people to their ancient ancestors, so Mark’s words connect us to our ancient Jewish forebearers. God has chosen them and grafted us on their heritage. Thank Lord you for the great gift of your chosen people in our Christian tradition and belief. May they and all the world see Jesus as the one true and beautiful gift!

Blessed Advent & Christmas!

PERSONAL CARE KITS for LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF: When emergencies like natural disasters or conflict arise, many families must flee their homes, leaving their belongings behind. When they arrive in a refugee camp or other place of safety, they are scared, vulnerable and dirty from the travel. The simple items included in a Personal Care Kit allow them to wash away the dirt and sweat, with the fresh scent of soap and the softness of a towel as re-minders of someone’s care and concern for them in their plight. LWML of Holy Cross is now collecting items to assemble the kits.

The following items are included in each kit: One light-weight bath-size towel (20”x40” to 52”x27”) dark color recommended Two or three bath-size bars of soap equaling 8-9oz, any brand, in original wrapping. (No mini or hotel size bars) One sturdy comb (no picks or fine toothed combs). One metal nail clippers (attached file optional).

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will be gathering items, now thru early March! Collection boxes are in the narthex.

Quilters Corner Thank you, thank you, thank you for the wonderful response to the “Reformation Quilt”.

Congratulations to the winner—Dedie Orta!

The response to our booth at the Luther Fest was awesome! Need stocking stuffers? We have pillow cases, aprons, coasters & pocket Kleenex holders. Need a table runner for

the holidays? Boys & girls backpacks are available & can carry clothes or toys or fill them with school supplies for Lutheran World Relief. Another Lutheran World Relief project is our mission quilts. Last year we made 61 quilts from donated blue jeans & material. We are working hard to break that record for this year. Also, anyone that lost everything to Hurricane Harvey can get a quilt! Call Rosie or any other member! We have also made some kids quilts for Kenya Kids & will be mailing those to be taken

there with work crews going in November & January. Irene Primeaux has been working at home making pillowcase dresses. We hope you saw our display. Again, thank you!

Call Rosemarie at #201-5710 for any special orders. We make memory quilts & pillows from shirts ties, & dresses. Our members are: Mary Adix, Vera Canton, Joann Ermel, Jeannie Heider,

Rosemarie Herring, Kristin Nelson, Sandy Schroder and Gloria Willett.

Quilting Circle meets on Thursdays, @ 9:30am, in the conference rooms We are looking for sheets for quilt backing, monetary donations, fabric & jeans. We have extra

machines so join us for fun & fellowship. Any questions, please call Rosemarie Herring at 201-5710.

Dear Holy Cross Family:

Thank you to everyone for the goodies that were dropped off at our house. The ham, beans, bread, desserts, & drinks went a long way in feeding the family this past week. Thanks you also for the love, prayers & friend-ship over the years for our entire family It is much appreciated & will never be forgotten.

Love, The Gunn Family

AMAZING JOB, HOLY CROSS and community! There are so many people that made this

event happen and we are ever so grateful to you for your hard work, dedication and commitment! Thank you for your support!
