Lee Geysbeek of COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL told about a woman who had the opportunity to travel to a distant land to visit the child she sponsored. She decided to take the child, who was living in abject poverty, to a restaurant. The boy ordered a hamburger, and the sponsor ordered a salad. When the food came to the table, the boy, who had never seen such a meal in his life, looked at the feast. He looked at his huge hamburger and over at his sponsor’s small salad. Then the young boy took his knife and cut the burger in half, offered it to his sponsor, rubbed his tummy, and asked, “Hungry?” A child who had next to nothing his whole life was willing to share half of what he had with someone he thought might need more. This child can be a good reminder the next time we meet someone in physical, emotional, or spiritual need. As followers of Christ, our faith in Him should be mirrored through our actions. We encounter people in need everyday. Some around the world and some around the corner. Some in need of a warm meal, others a kind word. What difference followers of Christ, who have experienced His love, could make by caring and sharing. Blessed March and Lent to you! Pastor Francis L. Schroeder

Easter Party & Egg Hunt Saturday, March 31, 2018

10:00am Family Life Center

It’s time for the Easter Egg Hunt! All children through the 5th grade

are invited to make a craft, have a pizza lunch, and hunt for lots

and lots of eggs! We will meet in the Family Life Center at 10:00am

on Saturday morning and we will have a ton of fun!

We have hundreds of plastic eggs in storage, but we need individually

wrapped candy to put in the eggs as well as baskets and prizes for the

kids. Please bring your donations to the church office, and if you have

any questions, please call Catherine Bruney at #963-9600.

We will begin filling the eggs with candy on Thursday, March 29 at

6:00pm in the Family Life Center. If anyone is interested in helping

please call Catherine at the above number or sign the sheet

on the clipboard. Thank you for all of your help!

News from our: Lutheran Women’s Missionary League

Tuesday, March 13th at 6pm

Hostesses: Mary Helen Terrell &

Sarah Kieschnick Devotion:

“Green Pastures” Activity:

Putting together Health Kits

PERSONAL CARE KITS for LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF: When emergencies like natural disasters or conflict arise, many families must flee their

homes, leaving their belongings behind. The simple items included in a Personal Care Kit allow them to wash away the dirt & sweat, with the fresh scent of soap and the softness of a towel

as reminders of someone’s care & concern for them in their plight. LWML of Holy Cross is collecting items thru early March, to assemble the kits. The following items are included in each kit:

One light-weight bath-size towel (20”x40” to 52”x27”) dark color recommended Two or three bath-size bars of soap equaling 8-9oz, any brand, in original wrapping. One sturdy comb (no picks or fine toothed combs). One metal nail clippers (attached file optional).

Collection boxes are in the narthex.

Quilters Corner The Holy Cross Quilters continue quilting in the conference

rooms on Thursday @ 9:30am. We are learning and sewing new patterns for our use and gifts. In the new year we will get seri-

ous to get as many mission quilts done for our deadline of Palm Sunday. Please join us! You don’t have to know how to sew to

help out. There are other things to do. We do have fun & fellowship while doing something good for someone in need. We can always use, cash, denim jeans, and

material (cotton). Thank you for your help with this pro-ject! Any questions, please call

Rosemarie at 201-5710.

Wow 10 years!!!!!! Yes, I’m a 10-year cancer survivor—living proof that the power of prayer and faith in God works.

Every March I remind you it’s time for your check up. A few have shared with me they did and had matters taken care of. We always say or think “I don’t have time”, “ I’ll do it later”, “I have

too much to do!”. Yes, I had those very thoughts. Okay, if I had gone sooner—does that mean I wouldn’t have had cancer? No, probably not, but it would

not have spread as it did. I had none of the listed signs to watch for—except toward the end was extreme exhaustion. We all can relate to that.

We evacuated for a hurricane to Winchester, TX. At two o'clock in the morning, I started hemorrhaging. By the time I was set for surgery I had to have blood transfusions just to have surgery. I had stage IV colon cancer that had spread through multiple nodes and liver. And, a second cancer was detected in my left kidney. After 2 major surgeries and months of chemo, lots of blood, and more importantly, lots of

love, support, and prayer, I am here. If I would’ve gone earlier all the pain my family went through and expense could have been less. But I was too busy! Guess what: It was out of my hands. For 18 months I was of no help to anyone, I depended on family and friends. I was blessed to have the love of family, friends, and this church. That makes me rich. After realizing what all had happened, I made a

decision not to waste time feeling sorry for myself, for all the “what ifs”, and to live to His fullest plan for me! This past year I stumbled big time— I started a good pity party for myself. I had the loss of a father and close friend. Sad yes, but I mentally forgot they are in Heaven—no worries, no suffering. Then came new physical challeng-es. Oh, I really had pity on myself “poor me”. Finally after months wasted, I woke up. No, this will not go away. I will only be as crippled as I allow. When I watch all the wounded vets, I realize I can, just as they, learn new ways. So, if I can’t do some things there will always be more to learn. And now with priority in place—I warn

you to care for yourself first, because when you’re down, you help no one, but burden those around you. March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Don’t wait for symptoms to have a yearly check up. If you have a bump, raised area, discolored area on your body, have it checked. If you just don’t feel good, and labs are okay, be

persistent, even if it warrants a second opinion! God gave us all senses, so use them. He gave you life— “cherish it.” It is your responsibility. Physical health

and mental Health—both need your care and awareness. So don’t’ waste life. Love yourself as God loves you. Take care of the life He gave you. God’s Blessings, Sharon Teinert
