From the Principal…

SMITHY – THE MUSICAL Our students were magnificent in the musical ‘Smithy’. They performed to the best of their ability, managed microphones and props, danced and sang like professionals. The staff are exceptionally proud of them. Once again, I would like to acknowledge the contribution of Mr Bonnor as the composer and lyricist. Mr Buist as the director, Mrs Conroy as the choir trainer and Miss Ainsworth and Miss Ragen as the choreographers. A big extra thank you to Mrs Darmody and Mr Butler for the help they provided in training the children and rehearsing their lines. Thanks to our P&C for providing refreshments during the intermission and to every Year 3 to Year 6 teacher for the work they put into rehearsing with their classes. All in all a great team effort. Well done everyone!

We look forward to seeing many parents attend these days when we focus on our students and their many achievements.

STAFFING MATTERS Mrs Pope has returned to work today after some leave. She will teach her class on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the remainder of the year. Mrs Meadham will remain on the class Mondays and Friday’s. Mrs Noakes is working on Literacy with Year 5 students and her class will be taught by Miss Fitzsimmons for the remainder of this year. LIBRARY NEWS

A number of people have shown interest in the ‘Smithy’ mugs that were given to people as thank you gifts for this year’s musical. I can have some more printed for children involved at a cost of $7.00 each. If you would like to purchase one of these mugs please send the payment with your child’s name and class in an envelope to the Library by Friday this week. Annette Darmody – Teacher/Librarian

YOUR ASSISTANCE PLEASE…

Whilst we admire your creativity with recycling envelopes etc for sending excursion money in, we have to ask you to not send it in food packaging ie. fruit or nut. ALSO when filling in permission notes don’t forget to add your child’s name. Sounds weird but some permission notes are coming in with nothing filled in – just the money.

REMINDER – LAST CHANCE

A reminder to get in now for your copy of the Smithy DVD. A professionally made copy of your child’s experience on stage. Make sure you know which cast your child appeared in. They are $25.00 if you order now or $35.00 if you buy after the deadline, which is this Friday 7 December 2018.

WILL YOUR CHILDREN BE RETURNING TO OUR SCHOOL IN 2019?

If your family holiday is extending beyond the first day of school 2019, we require a letter from parents/carers assuring the school that they will be returning and at what date. Please send a letter to the school ASAP with details and dates. Also – if you know that you will be moving or your child will be attending another school next year please let us know as soon as possible. Children who are not present on the first day without advance notice may not be placed in classes, as we will assume they are not returning.

ANTI BULLYING INFORMATION

SOCIAL NETWORKING APPLICATIONS How can I tell if my child is involved in bullying? Children who are bullied or are bullying others may respond and act differently. Your child’s behaviour and mood can change for a variety of reasons. Be alert to the possibility that the change may be related to bullying. You may notice your child: • doesn't want to go to school or participate in school activities • changes their route to school or becomes frightened of walking to school • drops in academic performance • changes sleeping or eating patterns • has frequent tears, anger, mood swings or anxiety • takes money from home • has unexplained bruises, cuts or scratches • loses or brings home damaged belongings or clothes • asks for extra pocket money or food • arrives home hungry. The signs of online bullying can be the same as signs of other bullying but may include other behaviours with phones and computers. For example, your child may: • be hesitant about going online • seem nervous when an instant message, text message or email appears • be visibly upset after using the computer or mobile phone, or suddenly avoid it • close a laptop or hide a mobile phone when others enter the room • spend unusually long hours online. Often children do not report bullying to their parents. This may be because they are afraid of upsetting their parents, feeling ashamed, afraid of making things worse, or worried that they may lose privileges such as access to the internet. Salty says caring for the environment is super important. Caring for trees and plants in our school is what our students do. They enjoy their lovely shade and try never to swing on or break them. Keep caring kids! Getting along means…being a good team member. These things can help you be a good listener, respectful of different opinions, help others and take turns and be fair.

RECIPES FROM THE 1950’s After a recent clean out in the archive room, an old recipe book from the ‘50’s was found. These recipes were all submitted from students as their favourite family recipe. We thought we’d share a few with you.

MARINATED CHICKEN WINGS 2lb chicken wings (1 x kilo) 3 tbls soy sauce Clove of garlic 1 tbls of oil 1 x small onion 2 tbls of honey 4 tbls of sherry and vinegar Boil wings first to make tender. Place in baking dish, cut up onion and garlic to scatter over chicken. Pour all wet ingredients over chicken and let stand as long as possible. Turn wings over so marinade is evenly distributed. More liquid can be used depending on size of dish. Bake in moderate oven slowly until golden.
