The enclosed has just come to my desk and I don 't know whether you have seen it or not, so I am taking the liberty or me111ng 1t to you. It is an excellent etatee~ent and to the point.

I re~d a story on the meet ing at your apartment in the Timeo this morning, which I am enolosing. I do hone that Blanch Freedman made it clear that harpist mus1c1ane are not under the New York State Labor Law or any state labor law that I know ot , and neither are pilot s .

The at~1tude or so mnny oeople 1s that we must aopease the Communists because of our tie with Rueaia. These oeonle evidently take the position that in order to plecnte Russia we must olay with the Communists. I feRl th~t t his i& wrong. Bupposedly .they are en American group, 11nd 91nce we tind thnt they ere unscrupulous, not to be trusted because of their opoortunism and lack of integrity, they should be treated with little consideration.

I have resigned my poRition as Secretary or the New York Btllte Labor Department and w1ll leave the Deoartmsnt by the first or May. I could have stayed on until such time as a new secretary was apooint ed, but I felt that I wanted to get through and be free to soeak' my mind and take nart in the coming campaign. The girls a t the Lengus w11nt me to come beck end I will have to decide one of these daye.

Incidently, you will be pleased to know that the League was instrumental in getting en Equal P&Y bill through this year. We soonsored the bill for the firs t time during the 1943 Legislature. We didn' t get very t ar and >re finally took it to the Ivea Oommiasicn, which is the legislative committee, ond we were also able to interest Jane Todd, Republic11n Assemblywomen ~ We brought together the other women ' s organi~atione and all agreed on thie bill which she in~roduced. Luckily, Jane ia ambitious to go to Oongreea and she needed this aendoff tor po11tioal purpoaea. However, the bill would ha~e been detested if Blanch Freedman had not apent the last week or the eeea1on at the 9apitol. Senator Ooudert was f urious at Jane Todd beQauee she hadn't stood t or one or hie net billa and wa• ready to knife t he Equal Pay bill eo as to toke revenge on Miee Todd. It wae through Blench that they were able to patch up their differences and the bill is now bef ore the Go~ernor for •h18 e1gnature.

So eorrr to ha~• learned that the President had been under t he weather . I am delighted that he ia all over hie bronchial attaok.

With tondeat love, I am,
