VIKING VENTURE 2019 Schedule 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Residence Hall Check-In and Move-In Students should drive to their residence hall to receive their keys, photo ID and Viking Venture schedule in the lobby area. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Lunch — Lunch is on your own; you may elect to enjoy a meal with parents/guests in the Krannert Dining Hall for $9 per person. Noon – 3 p.m. Viking Central — Krannert Lobby • Obtain your car and bike decals. • Receive information from the post office. • Complete Payroll forms. • Turn in your health forms and student work forms (if you haven’t already done so). • Talk with Berry IT about wireless and other technology questions. 3 – 4 p.m. Commuter Corner — Krannert Underground Commuter students will meet fellow first- year commuters and learn about ways to help navigate the first year at Berry successfully. Commuters will also receive their Berry ID card and Viking Venture schedules at this time. Plan to stay for the Welcome Reception. 4 – 5 p.m. Welcome Celebration — Evans Lawn (rain back-up location: Krannert Spruill Ballroom) Opening celebration for students and parents/guests. Hear from President Briggs, reconnect with your SOAR Leaders and enjoy some free cold treats and refreshments! 5 – 7 p.m. Dinner — Dinner is on your own; you may elect to enjoy a meal with parents/guests in the Krannert Dining Hall for $9 per person. 8:30 – 10 p.m. Mandatory Residence Hall Meetings Initial floor meeting with your resident assistant (RA) followed by social time. Students will be dismissed from the Krannert Ballroom with their first-year mentor to attend their first BCC class. 10 a.m. – Noon First-Year Seminar Class Meeting All students taking BCC 100/200 must attend their first class meeting. 11:30 a.m. Lunch — Krannert Dining Hall – 1:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. LifeWorks Overview Krannert Spruill Ballroom Learn more about the student work program, which provides eight semesters of paid, professional development experience, and how to advance from level 1 to level 5 through challenging assignments with increased pay. 2 – 3 p.m. Work Supervisor Meetings — Various locations Students will be dismissed from the LifeWorks session to meet with their supervisors at their work locations. 3 – 5 p.m. Transfer Student Advising Meeting Krannert Spruill Ballroom All transfer students should attend to connect with their academic advisor. Refreshments will be provided. 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. CIRP Survey All freshmen will meet in the location of their first BCC class to complete the CIRP Freshman Survey, which provides researchers valuable data about college students across the nation and helps Berry learn more about its own students and their peers at other colleges. 6:30 – 8 p.m. Dinner and Book Discussions First-Year Seminar classes will meet with their instructors for dinner to discuss The Work. Your BCC instructor will provide location details. 8 – 11 p.m. Open Play — Cage Center 9 – 10:30 p.m. Scavenger Hunt — Begin in the Krannert Ballroom and end in Krannert Lobby. Join your classmates to form teams and compete for individual and team prizes! This is a great opportunity to get to know campus and learn more about Berry traditions. Tennis shoes are recommended. After the scavenger hunt, stick around for a late night snack! Sponsored by SAO. 9 – 11 p.m. Game Night — Krannert Lobby If you are not participating in the scavenger hunt, join the SOAR Leaders for fun in Krannert. 3 – 5 p.m. Take a Break — Memorial Library New students are invited to take a break

between Viking Venture activities with snacks, games & a few surprises in Memorial Library.

First year commuter students are invited to a casual meet and greet with upperclassmen commuters, followed by dinner as a group and continued Q&A. Commuters are encouraged to stay for the “Be Berry” Class Photo and Rage in the Cage.

7:30 – 8:30 p.m. “Berry B” Class Photo — Ford Complex Reflection Pools

What better way to sport your Viking spirit than working as a class to create the Berry “B”? Join the members of the class of 2023 for this Berry tradition and capture the photo-op of the year! #VikingTraditions

9 – 11 p.m. Rage in the Cage — Cage Center Relive some of your childhood favorites with

student leaders from all over campus! Some of the activities will include pool party and splash contests, inflatables, dodgeball and 4-square, fire pits and s’mores, cartoons, DIY crafts, t-shirts, prizes and free snacks…There’s something for everyone at the giant social in the Cage Center! Make sure you bring your towel, a swimsuit, and some dry clothes if you plan on swimming and wear tennis shoes if you plan to participate in team sports.

7 – 8 p.m. Zumba — Richards Gym Dance Studio Make exercise a dance party and join fellow

students for this popular fitness program.

7 – 9 p.m. Open BOLD Course Activities — BOLD Course

Climb, leap, and swing up to 40 feet at the Ropes Course with Campus Recreation. Music, drop-in sport play, and yard games will also be available for your enjoyment.

7 – 9 p.m. Lounge on the Lawn — Sand Volleyball Courts near Richards Gym

Come enjoy cold treats provided by the Academic Success Center.

9 – 11 p.m. Outdoor Movie — Clara Bowl Join your fellow Vikings for a night under the

stars and watch a movie (title TBA) on a giant, inflatable screen. You bring a blanket or lawn chair and KCAB will provide the popcorn, candy and drinks. Sponsored by KCAB.

SATURDAY, AUG. 24

Cage Center open regular hours: 1:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Brunch — Krannert Dining Hall

12:30 – 1:30 p.m. SDI Game Time — Krannert 217 Join the Office of Student Diversity

Initiatives in a battle of Kahoot! Games will begin every fifteen minutes, and there will be prizes for the winner of each round. Food, drinks, and SDI swag will also be available for anyone who drops by.

2 – 4 p.m. Slip n’ Slide — Behind Friendship Hall on Mountain Campus

Sponsored by Campus Outreach. Bring your towel! Carpooling is encouraged.

SUNDAY, AUG. 25

4 – 7 p.m. Dinner — Krannert Dining Hall

6 – 7 p.m. Kick-off Service — Berry College Chapel Sponsored by the Chaplain’s Office.

All are welcome to attend a special kick-off worship service with special guest worship leaders and the staff of the Chaplain’s Office. Stick around immediately afterwards for a Ministries Fair on the chapel lawn.

7 – 9 p.m. Ministries Fair — Berry College Chapel Lawn

Join the Chaplain’s Office after the kick-off service for music, popsicles, games and beverages while you mix and mingle with representatives from our various campus ministries. Get plugged into men’s/women’s ministries, spiritual mentors, Bible studies and a host of on-campus religious clubs and organizations.
