Costa Rica at a glance

It is one of the seven countries in Central America. It is bounded by Nicaragua to the north, Panama

to the southeast, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.

Since the army was permanently abolished in 1949 the country has enjoy consistent political stability

and is recognized for its history of peace and democracy.

It has a population of 4,301,712 inhabitants with a life expectancy of 79 years.

The literacy rate in Costa Rica is 94.9%, one of the highest in Latin America. Public Education is

guaranteed and primary school is obligatory. There are private and public universities that compete

to offer the students high standard education and a variety of careers according with the market

demands in the current times.

The country´s tropical climate is due to its proximity to the Equator. It has many microclimates that

vary depending on the elevation and geography of the location. There are defined only two seasons…

the dry season (from December to April) and the rainy season (from May to November)

Costa Rica is proud of the efforts made on the last decades to protect the rainforest. Even though the

country has approximately 0.25% of the world´s landmass, it has about 5% of the world´s biodiversity

and protects almost 25% of its territory.

Marital status

• Bride and Groom most provide legal prove of marital status. These

documents have to be certified in the Costa Rican consulate or embassy in the

country where bride and groom are legal residents.

• Valid passport (on your arrival in CR passport must be valid for at least 6

months)

• Passport photocopies.

• Full name.

• Nationality.

• Passport number.

• Birth date and place (city – town – country)

• Age.

• Occupation.

• Current address.

• Parents full names, nationalities, residence (alive or not).

• Two witnesses (other than family members)

• Wedding date.

Marriage Certificate:

To register the marriage in your, the lawyer has to fill the paper work

with the Civil Registry. The document has to be translated into English by an

official translator and authenticated by your country´s embassy or consulate in

Costa Rica.
