Getting to know the medium
Types of video (used in education)
In education we can determine the use of two types of video. The first one, the long, raw full video is broadly used. The other one, the short video clip, is more effective, but less used.
Full video:• Duration: between 10’ and 120’• Often recorded during a real life situation.• Very efficient way of transferring information
(content, feedback, etc.) to the audience.• Often no editing done.
Short video clip:• Duration: less than 10’• Often recorded without audience (@home).• Very effective way of transferring information
(content, feedback, etc.) to the audience.• Functional editing done.

The main idea
• VIDEO @ KU LeuvenLecture capture, Web lecture. Automatic recording of a lecture Dedicated hardware

Automated lecture capture system
Some locations within the KU Leuven have a fixed system to automatically record lectures.
• Duration: between 10’ and 120’• Often recorded during a real life situation.• Very efficient way of transferring information
(content, feedback, etc.) to the audience.• Often no editing done. Just make a reservation for one of the 24 auditoria with the fixed lecture capture system via KULoket.

Screencasting software
Record short lectures at home and edit them with software on your own computer.
• Duration: ideally < 10’• To replace a F2F-moment
– Key topics– FAQ’s– Difficulties and common mistakes
• Can be done ahead of a contact moment (allowing more time to be dedicated to an in-depth exploration of the subject-matter) or as a revision or wrap-up (for offering students JIT support during their learning process)
• Little editing needed
Use Camtasia to record and edit your screencast or knowledge clip.
