Syllabus ~ International Business 2015 to 2016 Teacher: Mrs. Greene Period ~ A1 Room 216 Email: [email protected] International Business is a half semester course designed to provide the student with an overview of globalization, including global factors compelling companies to expand into other markets in order to remain competitive. Students explore cultural, economic, and political differences that affect business operations and decision-making. Then they learn the fundamentals of international trade, investment, and finance, including the role of international financial institutions such as the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank. Students study the business strategies that enable companies to compete effectively in a global economy. Finally, students explore international business as a potential career. In order to be successful in this class students must complete all assigned work, as directed, and on time. Assessments: International culture project – Students will research and create a classroom presentation doing business in another country. Papers – Students will research and write papers on various topics throughout the year using MLA format. Homework Assignments : Students will be given homework assignments, which will be reviewed the next day in class. Tests (Midterm and Final) These will be comprehensive exams that will include objective questions, short- answer questions, and practical applications. Culminating Project – Students will work in strategy teams to develop a global market entry strategy for a business. After the teams research they will prepare a professional-level PowerPoint presentation that outlines the strategy and identifies any business risks associated with it. Classroom Policies: Attendance – Students are expected to attend all class sessions and must complete all course requirements as assigned. Class attendance is taken everyday. Students must sign in. If for some extreme reason a student cannot make class, he or she may be able to make up the work with teacher approval, by submitting answers to the material covered in class as directed by the teacher, the following day for class credit. Cell Phones – Cell phones are not allowed in class without Mrs. Greene’s permission. No FOOD OR DRINKS IN THE CLASSROOM Homework - Must be turned in/or checked by teacher at the beginning of the class on or before the due date. If you are absent your homework must be turned in upon your return to school. Late assignments will not be accepted. Class Assignment Expectations : Assignments that are not turned in by the assigned due date and time, will be reduced by one letter grade if completed within one week. If the assignment is submitted more than one week late, it will no longer be accepted and you will receive a zero for the assignment. Grading Policy - Attendance/Class participation - 10% Quizzes and Exams - 25% Class Assignments - 40% Projects - 25% Grades are based on the weighted average as stated above and can be viewed using Power School.
