A New Year Message From Deacon Rue

W

hat a strange and very unusual year 2020 turned out to be. A year filled with uncertainty, mainly due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. Practically everyone is concerned about their health, the health of their loved ones and dear friends, especially those in the high-risk category.

In addition to those concerns, many individuals even experienced the loss of their employment, and now they’re struggling just to pay for the essentials of life. We have seen small businesses forced to close their doors, and they possibly will not recover and reopen in the future. These merchants’ investment and lifesavings are gone.

These events do not complete the full list for this past year, for who would have thought that schools would be closed, and churches would be banned for holding public worship - even outdoors. However, after reopening it is still not as it was before, with the social distancing and masks. Also, our Nation has become so divided by ideology, politics and race; violence and destruction captivated most of the year as well.

Thus, I can imagine we are all very weary of this Pandemic and all the other issues and situations it has caused, and we are offering our prayers to God that all this Darkness will be over soon. It is very fitting that we do render our prayers to God, both night and day, during good times and during times not so good, giving Him thanks and praise for all the wonderful gifts He has given each of us. The gift of our life and especially the gift of His Son, Jesus, the Christ, of who’s birthday, we have just celebrated.

Jesus chose to humble Himself, to be born with human nature, living with us to fully experience human life. Born into a poor family, Jesus experienced poverty and hardships. He experienced political and religious unrest under the harsh rule of the Romans. Jesus experienced rejection because of His teachings, and He certainly experienced pain and suffering, even death on that Cross.

Jesus didn’t have to do these things. He didn’t have to be born into humanity, and especially into poverty. However, it was His will and the will of the Father, so that Jesus, the Christ, could relate to each and every human condition and experience, not only two thousand years ago, but also right this very day, today. Through His experiences Jesus knows firsthand the Grace we need to be able to overcome the trials and temptations we face daily. We don’t have to worry about how God will work things out. We just need to focus on getting closer to Him and He will handle the rest. There should not be a question in our minds about God’s love for each of us, His children.

My prayer is that each of us will bring the Christmas message with us into the New Year of 2021, as God pours out His Grace upon us, to heal us and warm our hearts. That His Grace lifts our spirits high and makes us whole again. Filled with Grace and Christmas Joy, may we be united in the One True Body of Christ, proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel to all those we meet. 2021 is a Season of Hope, for Jesus Christ, the Son of God loves us dearly and is with us always.

God Bless+

Decorating the Church for Christmas

Thank you to all who helped to decorate our church for the Christmas season to produce a beautiful worship space for Holy Rosary. Since we couldn’t gather together this year to decorate, individual families volunteered their time to help. Thanks to: The Walker Family who put up our Christmas trees and the Dericos who made and displayed our window and choir loft décor. As always, we thank Linda Hicks for the beautiful Advent and Christmas artwork displayed on our altar. Lastly, we thank our environment committee, for always going the extra mile to do all the little things that make our liturgies wonderful and well organized. Thank you!

Camp Carlo

Dear parishioners in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston,

As director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, I am pleased to announce the reopening and renewal of summer youth camping ministry in our diocese. Under the new name of Blessed Carlo Acutis Youth Camp, or “Camp Carlo” for short, Catholic youth will have a tremendous opportunity to deepen their faith, experience His creation, and build lasting relationships with Catholic peers from across the state.

I am also pleased to introduce the new Camping Director for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. Riley Keaton is a native of Spencer, West Virginia where he attends Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He has led values-based leadership camps for the last four years – _including through the summer of coronavirus – _and represents his hometown in the West Virginia House of Delegates. I urge faithful families to get in touch with him, learn more about what we’re planning in Huttonsville this summer and ultimately give your children an experience that will make their summer at Camp Carlo.
