Veterans DayOn November 10 and 11 we will honor our veterans by remembering our family members, both living and deceased, who have served in the armed forces. Thank you for sharing a picture of your special family member with your Holy Rosary Family! And thank you to all who have served our great country.

Second Collection for Hurricane Relief Archbishop William E. Lori, Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, has approved a special collection to be held the weekend of Nov. 10-11 in all parishes and missions throughout the diocese to support recovery efforts related to the recent natural disasters that have occurred across the country. Proceeds from this collection will support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services and will provide pastoral support and rebuilding assistance to impacted dioceses through the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. As we hold the victims and first responders in our prayers during these critical days, let us also spend time in prayer and discernment as we prepare for this upcoming collection. Let us come together now to support our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering this horrible loss. For those who wish to make a gift now, you may contribute online at https://catholiccharitiesusa.org.

Honoring Our Dearly DepartedNovember is the month that we typically pray for those who have died. As part of our prayer, we at Holy Rosary will honor our deceased parishioners with candles on the altar in their honor during November. Candles will be placed in honor of:

Remembering the DeadDuring the month of November, we especially remember our beloved dead with prayers, thoughts and Mass intentions. We are called to “remember our sisters and brothers who have gone to their rest.” (Eucharistic prayer II) During November, we will have a remembrance book in the vestibule of the church. Please feel free to inscribe the names of those whom you wish to remember in this book. We will pray for all of these special people during the month of November.

Please take a moment to look at this book and remember the those who have gone before us in your prayers. Again, thanks for all that you do for our parish.

Our Church Needs You!Would you be willing to sign up to pray one (1) decade of the rosary from now until the beginning of Advent (Dec. 2nd)? You pick the decade that you would pray each day. You may say: one Our Father, ten Hail Mary’s and one Glory Be while meditating on the one mystery of the rosary daily. You can pray this any time of the day, any place or any location. Let’s pray together for our church, our priests and for our leaders for the next 4 weeks. Join us! Sign-up sheets are in the hall. If you don’t make it in the hall to sign up, start anyway and you can sign up anytime.

Thank You Very MuchFr. Ron Nikodem wanted to express his gratitude for all the cards recently sent him while he was in the hospital and after he returned home. He was very grateful for all the prayers sent his way as well Fr. Ron is well on the road to recovery and attributes a good part of that to the well wishes and prayers of

those who contacted him. His only regret is that he is unable to respond to each card sent him, but he is very thankful.

Thanks From St. FrancisThe people of St. Francis de Sales Church recently sent us a

thank you letter, expressing their appreciation for the donation our church sent after Hurricane Florence and the flooding that followed. The donation was put into a special fund called "the Hurricane Florence Flood and Relief Fund" and all monies went toward helping people in their congregation recover from the devastation, many of whom lost their homes and all their possessions. Our donation of $2,000 and the concern it expressed will help them in their struggle to recover. Thank you, brother and sisters, for caring

Did You Know? One of the hallmarks of the Second Vatican Council liturgical reforms was the so-called "turning around of the altars" in church. Before the Council, both the priest and the laity had for centuries celebrated the Mass by all facing one direction. The altar was built against the wall. After Vatican II the altar was brought forward and placed in a more central position. The priest faces the people. One reason for the change was that liturgical theologians, including Pope Benedict, have affirmed that the Mass is a sacrificial meal that goes back to the Jewish Passover when a lamb was slaughtered and offered to God. The meal was celebrated in Jewish homes with the head of the house, the father, leading the family in prayer around the table. Their father did not have his back toward them. Today, the altar is the gathering table and the
