MondayDate: 5/4/2020

This week we are starting a new monthly unit: Babies. We are going to be starting the unit by discussing farm animals and their babies.

Link to prior knowledge: last month we learned about the ladybugs and where they lay their eggs: on the leaves.

Explain to your child that when the eggs hatch, baby ladybugs come out.

Chickens lay eggs too. When the eggs hatch, baby chickens come out. They are called chicks.

Use the picture below for reference

Chickens and their baby chicks live on a farm.

Have your child create a hatching chick craft. If paper plates are not available use paper.

To practice cutting skills: trace the zig zag and have your child cut the egg out.

Don’t forget to label when finished: Chick

MATH- Please review numbers 1-19 (identifying the numbers and counting objects). Number of the week: 20. Have your child count household items such as: beans, seeds, cereal, and toys.

Request a number of items and have your child count and correspond with the items.

Write out the numbers and have your child choose a number, identify it, and count object or draw pictures to correspond with the number.

Explain to your child that cows also live on the farm with their babies. A baby cow is called a calf.

Cows eat grass and plants.

Ask your child to describe the cow and calf:

They have black and white spots.

The cow is big and the calf is small.

Ask your child what sound does a cow make: MOOOO

Explain that cows provide milk for us which is very healthy and helps us grow big and strong.

If you don’t have paint, have your child draw and color the black spots.

Today we are going to learn about the Sheep and their babies.

Explain to your child that Sheep live on the farm along with the chickens and cows.

Baby Sheep are called lamb.

Sheep eat grass, just like the Cows!

Ask your child what sound does the sheep make: BAAA BAAA

Explain to your child that Sheep are covered in hair, which is called wool. Some cloths that we wear are made out of wool.

To represent the wool you can use cotton balls or rip pieces of paper and crumble them.
