We want to thank each and every child who
helped write this story. Over 1,600 kids across
all twelve wards shared their vision of what
kind of city they want to live in. This comic is as
much written by them as it is for them. Everyday
we make choices in the City Plan that will define
Edmonton for decades to come. Kids need to be
at the heart of those choices and that means
asking them what they think.
We also want to send appreciation to both
Superintendents Joan Carr from Edmonton
Catholic School District and Daryl Robertson
from Edmonton Public School Board who
provided the leadership and believed in making
this project a success. Additionally, we would
like to thank all of the administration and
dozens of teachers at 34 different fourth,
fifth, and sixth Grade EPSB and ECSD schools
that facilitated this activity with their students.
We thank you for your commitment to ensuring
the voices of children are taken seriously.
We Built a city!
“So what did your group make for the science fair?”
But we’re gonna need a time machine
to get there
you’re gonna want to suit up
for this
People have a lot of different
names for it
2 million people live here
So we built them a sustainable transportation network
But people still get around in different ways
There’s always stuff going on in the city
we built
and everyone is always welcome
This place is extraordinary kids
But there are a bunch of jobs to be done if we
wanna keep it running
. . . and building
. . . and Healthy
. . . and Moving
. . . and Beautiful
AND CLEAN
Where are we going now? We’re already here. This
is how we power our city
But Ms. Q, we’ve gotta go back
Because Now we have to build it
I want to stay in the city you all have built
Why would we ever leave?
