We Need A Just Recovery Now!
Forward to a Just Recovery!
As we rebuild our society and economy from the impact of COVID-19, we must ensure a Just Recovery that follows these five principles:
Put people’s health first, no exceptions1Provide economic relief directly to the people2Help our workers and communities, not corporate executives3Create resilience for future crises4Build solidarity and community across borders – do not empower authoritarians.5
• Reject austerity by rebuilding public services.Invest in care work and social infrastructure such as education and health services.
• Include a just transition to renewable energy• Bring about a structural transformation of our
economy, not structural reforms to it.• Ensure democratic, public ownership of
enterprises, services and assets.
A Just Recovery will:
The struggle for equality and environmental, racial and gender justice are one and the same. While the pandemic has weakened us and deepened the divides in our society, we have a chance to transform the deeply unequal nature of the South African economy.
