India@75

Countries around the world have National Volunteering Programs & Weeks to support individuals as well as organizations of all sizes and mandates.

Volunteer Weeks in USA, England, Australia and Canada support all efforts to recognize and celebrate the great contributions of community

volunteers. Volunteering Days like the Sewa Day originating in UK (which takes up the concept of Sewa embedded in Indian traditions), and the

International Volunteering Day (5th December) offer an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make visible their

contributions and co-opt others in their work.

India too needs her own National Volunteering Week – a week where millions of Indians can celebrate the virtue of selfless service and share their

common purpose to make India a developed, inclusive and progressive nation, that has much to offer to the world. National Volunteering Week,

India@75’s initiative, is a week where millions of Indians can celebrate the virtue of selfless service and share their common purpose to make India a

developed, inclusive and progressive nation that has much to offer to the world. This week will unite the nation in its spirits, its intentions and most

importantly in its commitment to engage Indians from all walks of life in celebrating, initiating and expanding the act of service for the common good.

For each day of the week, different themes have been assigned. List of themes is as below –

India@75 & Planning Commission

launched India Backbone

Implementation NetworkIn April this year, India@75 and Planning Commission jointly launched the India

Backbone Implementation Network (IBIN). The purpose of IBIN is to improve

implementation of policies, programs, and projects, which the 12th Five Year

Plan has located as the critical necessity for accelerating more inclusive and

faster growth. An analysis of projects and schemes has revealed that the major

causes of bottlenecks in implementation are contention amongst stakeholders,

and poor coordination amongst agencies. These bottlenecks are at many levels

in the system, at the center, in the states, and in districts and cities too. They

cannot be relieved top down by the Planning Commission. They require

collaborative action by stakeholders and agencies at multiple points.

Mr Ahulwalia said the Planning Commission has introduced several innovations

in the 12th Plan to improve planning, communication, and implementation.

These include the use of techniques of ‘scenario planning’ for the first time, use

of social media for communications with youth, and the concept of IBIN.

The IBIN movement will disseminate techniques and skills for collaboration,

coordination, and better planning through a network of agencies in the

country. The partners in the expanding network already included more than

two dozen institutions such as the Administrative Staff College of India, the

Indian School of Business, SEWA, WISCOMP, UNDP, GIZ, the World Bank,

FISME and other business associations. Since IBIN network will form around

“nodes”, India@75 was announced as the first node. The functions of a node

is to bring together providers of the skills and techniques and the agencies

that need them, and to continuously distil good practices and disseminate

them widely.

The launch session was also addressed by Mr S. Gopalakrishnan, President, CII

and Chairman Apex Council of India@75, Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Member

Trustee, India@75 Foundation and Mr Rajan Navani, Chairman, India@75

National Committee.

Study on Private Sector Skilling InitiativesIt’s been 5 years since late Prof CK Prahalad gave the

vision for India@75 and one of the most prominent

finding of this agenda was the need to skill 500 million

people by 2022. This number has been accepted by

the Prime Minister and 17 ministries have been given

the task to achieve this number.

We are now 9 years away from the target of 500

million skilled work force. At this stage, it is imperative

to take stock of the efforts taken by different players.

India@75 alongwith National Skill Development

Corporation (NSDC) will initiate the process of

aggregation. The study will be initiated to map all the

skill development activities and training initiatives

being taken by various private players in the eco-

system.

Private sector initiatives will include NSDC partners,

non-NSDC private training partners and training by

corporates. The duration of the study will be from

January 2014 to March 2014 and is tentatively scheduled

to be launched at the Annual General Meeting of

Confederation of Indian Industry in April 2014.

Partnership with Government of

Uttar Pradesh to Organize Career

Guidance and Jobs FairAn important pillar of India@75’s work is skill building and skill

development. There is a large gap to match the skill sets available with the

opportunities for employment. With this in mind, India@75 and CII have

planned a Career Guidance and Job Fair for the students of Polytechnics

and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).

The primary purpose of the fair is to encourage interaction between the

industry and the students. Creating a platform and facilitating options for

employment will definitely motivate and instill a sense of confidence in the

students undertaking vocational skills training. Since the fair seek strong

government and industry support, it will enable these two key stakeholders

to connect and understand from the students their aspirations, identify

their skills and provide them the most suitable option. The fair will provide

not just jobs but also offer career guidance and assist the students in

creating a career tree so that they are aware of the various milestones that

can be achieved through vocational education and training.

The students from Noida, Bulandshahar, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Aligarh,

Mathura will be invited for this fair. The fair is planned in Partnership with

the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh

on 22nd and 23rd January 2014 at Gautam Buddha University in

Greater Noida.
