CHAPEL FARM (SWINDON)

The Hills waste management centre at Chapel Farm,

Blunsdon is just off the A419 to the north of Swindon. It is

the main non-hazardous landfill facility serving Swindon.

Void space is created by extraction of clay, which is itself a

valuable mineral used for engineering purposes. The site is

open for local businesses to dispose of waste which will be

recycled where possible.

PARKGATE FARM (PURTON)

The Hills waste management centre at Purton, near Swindon,

is a non-hazardous and hazardous landfill. It is also a waste

collection and skip / container hire depot. The site is an

important regional facility for composting and for the disposal

of hazardous waste. Wastes handled include those from

contaminated sites that are being re-developed as a means

of minimising the call on greenfield sites. The clay extracted

to create landfill void space is itself a valuable mineral.

LOWER COMPTON (CALNE)

The Hills waste management centre at Lower Compton on the

outskirts of Calne incorporates a range of collection, disposal

and recycling operations. The site is the hub for Wiltshire’s

recycling and resource recovery campaign and includes a large

materials recycling facility (MRF).

Underpinning all the other activities is a non-hazardous

landfill operation serving a wide area of Wiltshire. Void space

is created by extraction of silica sand. The site is open for

local businesses to dispose of waste which will be recycled

where possible.

KINTBURY (NEWBURY)

This waste management centre, just off the A4 between

Newbury and Hungerford, services our waste collection

operation across west Berkshire and offers a range of

containers. The transfer station sorts recyclables for

re-sale such as soil, hardcore and crushed concrete, as well as

selling virgin sand and gravel. The transfer station is open for

local businesses to dispose of waste which will be recycled

where possible.

PORTE MARSH (CALNE)

This facility handles our cardboard and plastic kerbside collections which Wiltshire Council rolled out in autumn 2011.

The material is sorted and baled at the facility and then transported on for recycling.

NORTHACRE RESOURCE RECOVERY CENTRE (WESTBURY)

The two year construction project for this state-of-the-art waste treatment plant began in July 2011, and is a key

element of our efforts to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

When complete, 60,000 tonnes of household waste can be processed using mechanical

biological treatment (MBT) in the facility located under a 25 year contract agreed

between Hills and Wiltshire Council.
