Was the Book of Enoch studied by the authors of the New Testament?

This is a study showing many of the similarities between the Book of Enoch and the New Testament. Some are complete quotes, and others are mere allusions. Others yet are prophetic predictions of the Messiah in the New Testament.

Remember, this book was found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, which makes it 300-1000 years older than the days of Jesus, but it still predicts him accurately.

Jude 1:14-15 (NIV)

 14Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones 15to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him."

Enoch 1:9 (RLT)9Behold, he comes with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon them, and destroy the wicked, and reprove all the carnal for everything which the sinful and ungodly have done, and committed against him.

Enoch 14:24 (MKT) (The Son of Man is also the word of the Lord)

24 And until then I had been prostate on my face, trembling. And the Lord called me with his

own voice, and said to me: “Come here Enoch, to my Holy Word.”

Enoch 62:5 (MKT) (The Messiah will be born to a woman)

5 And one half of them will look at the other, and they will be terrified, and will cast down their

faces, and pain will take hold of them when they see that son of a woman sitting on the throne of

His Glory.

Enoch 62:9 (MKT) (Christians will have faith in the Son of Man)

9 And all the mighty kings, and the exalted, and those who rule the dry ground, will fall down

before him, on their faces, and worship; and they will set their hopes on that Son of Man, and

will pray to him, and will ask for mercy from him.

Enoch 62:14-15 (MKT) (The believers will have a happy eternal life)

14 And the LORD will remain over them and with that Son of Man they will dwell, and eat, and lie

down, and rise up, forever and ever.

15 The righteous and Elect will have risen from the earth, and will have ceased to cast down

their faces, and will have put on the Garment of Life.

Enoch 99:5 (MKT) (Enoch speaks of the end times)

5 And in those days the women will become pregnant and abort their babies, and cast them out

from their midst, so that their children perish through them: Yea, they shall abandon their

children (that are still) sucklings, and not return to them, and will not have mercy on their

beloved ones.

Enoch 46:1 (MKT) (The book of Daniel also mentioned this event)

1 And there I saw he who is the ‘Ancient of Days’ and his head was white like wool. And with

him there was another whose face had the appearance of a man and his face was full of grace like

one of the Holy Angels.

Enoch 1:5 (MKT) (Daniel also referred to the angels as Watchers)

5 Every creature will be afraid, even the Watchers will shake, and fear and great trembling will

seize them, up to the ends of the earth.

Enoch 45:4 (MKT) (God says the word will become flesh)

4 On that day I will cause My Messiah to dwell among them and I will transform Heaven and

make it an Eternal Blessing and Light.

Enoch 46:3-5 (MKT) (The Son of Man will remove evil)

3 And he answered me, and said to me: “This is the Son of Man who has righteousness and with

whom righteousness dwells. He will reveal all the treasures of that which is secret, for the LORD

has chosen him, and through uprightness his lot has surpassed all others in front of the LORD

forever.

4 And this Son of Man, who you have seen, will rouse the kings and the powerful from their

resting places, and the strong from their thrones, and will loose the reins of the strong, and will

break the teeth of the sinners.

5 He will cast down the kings from their thrones, and from their kingdoms, for they do not exalt

him, and do not praise him, and do not humbly acknowledge from where their kingdom was

given to them.

Enoch 69:27-28 (MKT) (Judge from the right hand of God)

27 And he sat on the Throne of His Glory and the whole judgment was given to the Son of Man

and he will cause the sinners to pass away and be destroyed from the face of the Earth.

28 And those who led astray the world will be bound in chains and will be shut up in the

assembly-place of their destruction, and all their works will pass away from the face of the earth.

Enoch 52:9 (MKT)

9 All these will be wiped out and destroyed from the face of the earth when the Messiah appears

in front of the LORD of Hosts.”

Enoch 61:8 (MKT)

8 And the LORD of Hosts set the Messiah on the throne of his glory, and he will judge all the

works of the Holy ones in Heaven above, and in the Balance he will weigh their deeds.

Enoch 62:1 (MKT) (The Eyes of the disbelievers are finally opened)

1 Then the Lord commanded the kings, and the mighty and the exalted, and those who dwell

upon the earth, and said: “Open your eyes and raise your horns if you are able to accept the

Messiah.”

Enoch 90:18 (MKT) (Second coming of Jesus)

18 And I looked until the Lord came to them and took the Staff of His Anger and struck the

Earth. And the Earth was split. And all the unrighteous fell from among them and sank into the

earth; and it closed over them.

Enoch 40:7 (MKT) (No Satan for 1000 years)

7 And the fourth voice I heard driving away Satan and not allowing him to come in front of the

LORD to accuse those who dwell on the high ground.

Enoch 90:28-29 (MKT) (The New Jerusalem)

28 And I stood up to look until he folded up the Earth, and they removed all the pillars, and all

the beams and ornaments of the Earth were folded up with it. And they removed it and put it in a

place to the south.

29 And I looked until the Lord brought a new Earth, larger and higher than the first one, and he

set it up on the site of the first one that had been folded up. And all its pillars were new, and its

ornaments were new and larger than those of the first one; the old one that had been removed.

And the Lord was in the middle of it.

Enoch 25:3 (MKT) (God will return for good)

3 And he answered me, saying: “This high mountain, which you saw, whose summit is like the

Throne of the Lord, is the throne where the Holy and Great One, the Lord of Glory, the Eternal

King, will sit, when he comes down to visit the Earth for good.

Below are many more verses from Enoch that are either quoted in the New Testament or alluded to. Remember, the Book of Enoch was written many years before Jesus walked the Earth, which was proven when it was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Revelation 9:1 1The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss.
