District Facility Improvement Goals:The primary mission of any school district is to educate the children which attendtheir schools while ensuring their safety.

The Wappingers Central School District’s most significant built asset in thismission is your Buildings and Grounds, and, like most built investments, withthese Facilities comes the responsibility to monitor, maintain and repair them tokeep them in service.

The recent Building Condition Survey, the District’s ongoing Maintenance andImprovement Programs, and input from District staff and the public haveidentified Facility Improvement needs that require solutions.

Through its Committees and Administrative Staff, the District has identified thefollowing Facility Improvement Goals for the District:

1. Address Projects requiring immediate action and make Improvements mandated by the State

2. Address Buildings rated Unsatisfactory in the Building Condition Survey3. Prioritize Recommended Improvements identified in the Building Condition

Goal No. 4: Improve Technology and SecurityIn 2014, Voters in New York approved the Smart Schools Bond Act, (SSBA) which provides funds for School Districts to improve Technology and Security. The Wappingers Central School District was granted $5,327,266 for projects that meet the SSBA guidelines.The District and the Smart Schools Bond Act Committee are reviewing the following projects for funding by the SSBA: 1. District wide: New door locks on school building interior doors that allow the

doors to be locked from inside the room. 2. District Wide Instructional Technology (Smart Boards and Classroom

Technology)3. Server Room Air Conditioning Improvements at John Jay HS, Van Wyck Jr HS,

Wappingers Jr HS, and Brinckerhoff ES4. Construction of Vestibules at School Entrances to improve Building Security

Next Steps: Important Dates for a May 17 Referendum

1. Start State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) process by authorizing preparation of the Environmental Assessment Forms and Lead Agency Letters no later than February 8, 2016.

2. Establish the District as Lead Agency no later than March 28, 2016.

3. Review Environmental Assessment Forms for each action anddetermine the significance of the actions no later than March 28, 2016.

4. Review and approve Project Scopes and Budgets. Adopt a Bond Resolution no later than March 28, 2016.

5. Advertise the Bond Resolution(s) and Referendum date no later than April 1, 2016.

6. District wide voting on Bond Resolution(s) on May 17, 2016.
