Junior Syndicate News In the Junior Syndicate we have been having such fun learning all about pirates! The super writers in Room 9 have been created some amazing pirate stories! We hope you enjoy a sample of our wonderful writing!

Locusts can eat their own weight in food in a day. A person eats his own body weight in about half a year.

Middle Syndicate Scientists Last week Room 10 and 11 spent the morning at Portobello Aquarium. We have been learning about the skills scientists use especially observing, and then how to interpret and organise the information that is gathered. We studied one square metre at the rocky shore and recorded our findings. We have now added our information to a national website and made pie graphs to show what we found.

IMPORTANT NEWS School Donations Thank you to those that have paid their school donation so far. We encourage as many as pos-sible to think about paying as this is the best way to support your school. All donations made to the school are eligible for a tax rebate. Once your payment has been ac-tioned, you will receive a receipt. This will come home with your child, usually within 5 days of payment. For more information on school donations, go to our website and click on Information—School Donations. Here you can see FAQ and links to Inland Revenue and tax claim forms. Lunch Ordering When ordering lunches, please use the correct change, as the school does not hold much change. Thank you. Managing Your Child’s Cold Symptoms Resting at home and drinking plenty of fluid is the best way for your child to get well when they are sick with a bad cold or cough. Often the illness is caused by viruses, so antibi-otics won’t help, and many of the expensive cold and flu products have been shown to have little effect on the duration and severity of the illness. Some throat lozenges contain a local anaesthet-ic which will numb a sore throat for a while, but the same effect may be had from a warm drink. Give your child paracetamol as per GP instruc-tions if required, and take your child to the GP if the symptoms get worse (such as a high fever).

Room 10 News For book week In Room 10 we read 'Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. We chose a mask and then with our little buddies we coloured it in. Then we had to cut it out, the eyes were tricky to cut out. We measured elastic around our heads and tied the elastic onto the mask! Here we are "roaring our terrible roars and gnashing our terrible teeth, and rolling our terrible eyes and showing our terrible claws". Let the rumpus start! It was a great afternoon. We can't wait for dress up day tomorrow. By Aliyah and Poppy
