History

• 1318, the mill was built by the Earl of Eppstein Gottfried the fifth and his wife Loretta.

• In the late 15th Century the mill was taken over by Earl of Hessian

• The Coat of Arms of the Hessian´s was a lion; the symbol of our wines today

• In 1806 a common family recieved the mill

• After years of decline the Joachim Flick estate bought the property in 1994

• Nowadays the mill is a place for excellent wines and enjoyment

• The Taunus hills in the north protect the slopes• The Rhine flows only in south to north direction, with exeption at Mainz, it flows from east to

west. So we have got southern mountain inclinated slopes

Our Location

Riesling

• One of the most important white grape varieties

• Located in the northerly wine regions

• First mentioned in 1435

• 82 % of our wines are Riesling

• A very good storage wine

• Great with some dishes

• Has a wide range of wine styles

• Rheingau and Mosel are popular for its Rieslings

• It is not important in quantities

–only 100000 ha are planted with Riesling wines- but in qualitiy wine

Spätburgunder –Pinot Noir-

• Cistercians brought the pinot noir from Burgundy to the Rheingau

(1106 ad )• 8 % of our vineyard areas

are planted with pinot• Compliments venison very

well• Has fine tannin structures • Crimson coloured

Craftmanship and Modern Spirit

• Many hours are invested to get an impressive wine

• Fermentation in modern inox steel vats or in big oak casks; it is a question of style

• Our aim is to protect that what we have recieved from the vineyard

Eiswein

• Needs under -7°degrees C.• Picked at the break of day• Pressed without crushing• Very concentrated sugar, fruit and acid.

The Noble Rot

Botrytis cineria settled on the skin of the grapes, it becomes permeable and the berry metamorpheses into a raisin.

Sparkling Wine

• Traditional Method, similar to Champagne• Second fermentation in every bottle• Stored over 9 months or longer • After the riddling process disgorged
