Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union
2016 Club Rugby Finals
Trust House Memorial Park
30 July 2016
Chairman of Council of Clubs
Welcome to Club Finals 2016.
With the mild winter that we have enjoyed so far and the end of the year approaching fast it is hard to believe that it is club finals time again.
It was very pleasing to see Featherston and Puketoi making the semi-finals their first year back, along with Pioneer Old Boys making the finals as they entered the competition for the first time.
Congratulations to all teams involved in the finals, we look forward to seeing some great rugby played here today.
Tim Nathan
Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union President
Today as President of our union it gives me great pleasure to welcome all to Club Grand Finals day for 2016. What a season! It has to be said that the format would be hard to fault. No one team was in a position to claim a spot until the semi-finals. Club rugby at its best! Congratulations to the finalist’s, commiserations to those that missed out. I won’t use the term losers because in this competition I don’t believe there are any. All participants can rightly be proud of their achievements. Tim Nathan and the Council of Club members can justly take a bow for their efforts in putting in place a superb competition. This day all finals will be played on the turf. Wairarapa TV will be filming, and You Tube viewer’s world-wide will be able to witness heartland rugby at its best. Thanks have to go to Tony Hargood CEO, who has worked tirelessly along with his staff Doug, Stacey, Matt, Cynthia, Margie and Neil. Thank you too to all the club coaches and managers, and especially all the volunteers’ who have worked behind the scenes. Special mention must be made of our ground staff Farry, unpaid volunteer who never says no, and groundsman Glen. All can justly be proud of their season’s efforts. A huge thank you to all sponsors, regardless of the level of your support. Rugby would not survive without you; long may you continue to be recognised by all who enjoy the no. 1 sport in our region. To all of you who attend to witness these games thank you on behalf of the participants in whatever capacity for your support. Enjoy your day
Richard Dahlberg
