Book Week 20 – 24th May We had a fantastic week at Wadestown School celebrating Book Week. Our wonderful Teacher Librarian Pip Honore organised our famous Book Week, which included competitions, quizzes, visiting Authors and parents and grandparents reading their favourite stories to their child’s classroom. The New Zealand Play House visited Wadestown School with a superb performance of the Hare and the Tortoise that all our students found hilarious. Thank you from us all Pip for organising such an amazing week. The book Fair was so well attended each day after school and many thanks to all the volunteers that assisted Pip to run such a successful event. Over $1,000 was raised from this year’s Book Fair. What a fabulous result and thank you to everyone who purchased books to support the school. As you can see from the photos below lots of creativity was on display at our Book Character Parade on Friday 24th May.
Dress up Party – Saturday 25th May
Following on from the Book Week over 100 parents packed the Wilton Bowling Club to dress up with the theme of If Your Kids Can – You Can. An amazing selection of book characters danced the night away and we hope to share photos with you from this wonderful annual event shortly.
A special thank you to the organising committee of Steve McHardy, David Dick, Paul Fuge and Tim Bennett for a fantastic night of fun and entertainment enjoyed by parents and staff. What a great group of organisers you are and what a great party we had.
Wadestown School Whanau Group The Wadestown School Whanau Group are meeting on Tuesday 11th June at 5.30 pm in the Rose Street staff room.
Everyone is welcome to come along and we extend a warm welcome to new parents. The aim of our group is to support Te Reo throughout the school and we are very fortunate to have Nicki Greer and Amber Pullin as the Lead teachers of the Te Reo Curriculum this year.
In the past we have helped to organise/assist with hangi, powhiri and the Kapa Haka Group. We have enjoyed making new friendships and learnt a lot ourselves. If you are interested in finding out more, please feel free to join us at this meeting.
If you have any questions regarding the group, please call Julie Gerrard 027 673 9929.
A Stargazing Picnic Event
14th June 5.30 – 8.30 pm
Wadestown School Tennis Courts The students in the Science Squad have been busy organising this event and would like to invite everyone along.
So why not take the family out, bring your dinner and anything you fancy to drink (hot or cold). You will also
need a blanket to wrap up warm and please bring a torch to see where you are going during our building
remediation project.
We plan to hold a sausage sizzle (including limited vegetarian options) provided by the PTA at $2.00 per sausage
and our school band will entertain you during the evening.
There will be a number of different telescopes to try and experienced members of the Wellington Astronomical
Society on hand to offer their expertise. There will also be a Tesla Coil demonstration for everyone to enjoy.
So let’s turn our heads to the sky and enjoy a fabulous stargazing event on Friday 14th June.

Volunteers for the Library The library is in need of some parent volunteer helpers to assist with preparing books to go on the shelves and repairing those that have been damaged. The time that I am available to work with any volunteers is Wednesday afternoon each week. If anyone can spare an hour or two it would be much appreciated. It does not need to be on a regular basis and would work best if I can email you when I have a stack of books ready to be worked through. If this appeals to you, please email me. [email protected] Thank you for your support. Pip Honore Teacher Librarian
Western Zone Cross Country The 2019 Western Zone Cross Country took place on Tuesday 21st May at Karori Park. Students who placed in the first 10 will be going through to the Interzone Cross Country Event.

Wadestown Community Crèche Celebration - 8 June
Please join us for a celebration of the Wadestown Community Crèche and its wonderful teachers at 46 Pitt Street on
Saturday 8 June at 1-3pm.
You may have already heard the sad news that, after more than 30 years of service in the community, the Wadestown
Community Crèche is closing on 11 June. Those of you with any past association with the Crèche will know the very special
part it has played in the lives of hundreds of local families and children over the years. This is largely due to an exceptional
team of teachers, many of whom have dedicated years of service to the Crèche.
We are compiling a ‘book of memories’ for the teaching team. If you have any memories, messages or photos you would
like to contribute, please email them to Libby Peckham at [email protected]. If you would like to
contribute towards gifts for the teachers, we have set up a givealittle page to collect donations:
https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/wadestown-community-creche-teachers-farewell-gift
You will have the option of leaving a message or contribution on the day also.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Friday Night Meals are back at the Wilton Bowling Club Bowls Wilton is pleased to announce that Roger and Lily, the team from the original Red Tomato in Kelburn Village, have signed up as our new catering team. They will begin operating on Friday 24 May, meals on from 6pm to 8.30pm. All of the local community will be welcome to join us every Friday for a meal, a drink and if you want to, even causal game of bowls. Bring the kids and challenge them to an end or two (bowls all provided at no charge).
Many of you will already know of Roger and Lily’s kitchen mastery having attended some of our club functions such as the Andrew London Trio, Gary McCormick and Tim Shadbolt, our Christmas dinners or one of the many wedding and birthday functions that they have catered for. In addition to the weekly Friday meals Roger and Lily and their team will be providing a great range of catering options for community and social events that use the club’s premises. To help us help you it would be good if you could let us know if you are coming. Just email the club. And remember meals will be available until 8.30 so no need to rush when the kitchen opens. We look forward to seeing you. Be assured you won’t be disappointed. Like our Facebook page @wiltonbowlingclubinc or watch the website for more details.
