PRAHA 1 STARÉ MĚSTO
Prague, at that time, was part of Austro-Hungarian Empire and actively involved in an indepth renewal process of the arts. The “Vienna Secession”, which was known as Liberty, Art Nouveau, or Secese, etc, depending on the countries in which it developed, redesigned the architectural face of the city in the early twentieth century. Prague was a cosmopolitan, middle European city and in those years it saw famous hotels, such as Hotel Paris, Hotel Meran, etc, built in the “Secese” style for a wealthy clientele from all over the Europe. Since 1992 the historic center of Prague has been declared a cultural heritage of humanity, protected by UNESCO.
IN THE EARLY 1900S THE CENTRE OF PRAGUE SAW THE APPEARANCE OF SOME BUILDINGS THAT STILL CHARACTERISE ITS ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE.
HISTORY OF THE CITY

In the XIV century, Charles IV of Luxembourg expanded the city further with founding the New Town: during this period, the two sides were socially and phisically separated by a large moat.
A few metres from Na Příkopě, it is not by chance that you find the Můstek metro line station, whose name can be translated as the “Bridge” : it was right at this point that the bridge over the moat was located, giving the access to the city of Prague, which was generally destined only for the rich and nobles of the time.
STARÉ MĚSTO, THE OLD TOWN, IS A VERY ANCIENT QUARTER IN THE HEART OF PRAGUE: IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CASTLE AREA AND MALÁ STRANA. THIS WAS THE PART OF PRAGUE WHICH BEGAN TO BE POPULATED, WHERE ITALIANS, JEWS, GERMANS AND BURGUNDIANS SETTLED DURING THE TWELFTH CENTURY.

The building features rich stuccoes over the four floors of the main front, a commercial basement with shops, a penthouse in the loft and a small back garden. The external doors and windows are original, as in the central stairway, with a wrought iron barrier, handrails and glass arts of twentieth century design. The rental house in Prague had the “modern” middle class as interlocutor in the early twentieth century, who saw living as a fundamental part of the whole work of art.
The renovation project, approved by the MHMP OKP (municipality of the Prague capital, supervisory body of cultural heritage and tourism), allows the protection of the great historical and architectural values of the building and a series of restoration efforts that will restorate the “spirit” of the original building.
THE RENTAL HOUSE AT 4 VĚZEŇSKÁ STREET WAS BUILT IN 1904 BY JOSEF CANSKY, BASED ON THE DESIGN BY THE ENGINEER VACLAV HAVEL. KAFKA, FROM PRAGUE, WOULD BEGIN TO WRITE “THE METAMORPHOSIS” ONLY IN 1913, AND OSKAR KOKOSCHKA, WHO WAS ONE OF THE FATHERS OF THE “VIENNA SECESSION” IN PAINTING WITH KLIMT AND SCHIELE, WOULD PAINT HIS PORTRAITS OF URBAN PRAGUE JUST A FEW YEARS LATER. HOWEVER, THE MIDDLE EUROPEAN ATMOSPHERE OF THE CITY WAS ALREADY PRESENT IN THE RENTAL HOUSE AT 4 VĚZEŇSKÁ STREET AND IT IS STILL PERFECTLY EVIDENT TODAY.

The highly professional Bohemian craftsmanship is evident in the creation of unique archiectural elements that today are unachievable. These are functional works of art, used as barriers, handrails and windows, etc, while preserving their strong artistic vocation. Now, a careful design reconnects these unique details in a new organic project.
Today the careful and philological restoration highlights this restored excellence, adding a new quality to the building and to living in this space.
WITHIN THE THEORETICAL RIGOUR OF THE VIENNA SECESSION, “THE GLOBAL ART PROJECT” IS ACHIEVED THROUGH A SERIES OF INFINITE DETAILS.
THE COMPOSITION OF THE FACADE, THE SUBDIVISION OF THE ACCOMODATION, THE CENTRAL AREAS AND THE INTERIORS OF THE APARTMENTS STILL REFLECT TODAY THE QUALITY WHICH THEY WERE DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED WITH.

CREATED INSIDE THE MONUMENTAL SPACE IN THE ROOT, TWO PENTHOUSES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED ON THE FIFTH AND SIXTH FLOORS. THE CHARACTERISTIC SECTION OF THE ROOF ALLOWS THE CREATION OF THESE TWO APARTMENTS, THE TYPICAL PRAGUE “PUDA”.
On the sixth floor there is the master bedroom with a private sauna and wellness. The upper level continues with a large new terrace, towards the inner courtyard, which allows you to enjoy the view of the spires of the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, in the heart of the ancient Staroměstské nám square.
The fifth floor, in both the penthouses, is bathed in golden light that shines through the large windows in the pitch of the roof, from which you also have a stunning view of the rooftops of the old town. This glow of sunshine late in the day enhances the interior space of the double-height living area and the open space kitchen.
