Letter from the PresidentDear Alumnae, Parents, and Friends of Catholic High,

It is hard to believe that our 75th Anniversary Celebration has come to an end. I can honestly say that I enjoyed the many activities highlighting this historic year at Catholic High, from our sold out Gala to the April 20th Finale, and all of our special events and monthly student celebrations in between. The 75th Anniversary, Lighting the Way ~ Transforming the World, will hold a special place in my heart and memory, as it is now part of the glorious history of Catholic High. Please take the time to read about the many special anniversary activities that took place and to visit our Heritage Room to see documentation of the celebrations. I encourage you to visit Catholic High often – you are always welcome!

The Summer Highlighter is a summary of the many memories and historical events that were held during the 2014-2015 School Year. I hope that you will share the pride and joy we feel in the experience of Hello Day, the May Crowning, achievements in athletics and visual and performing arts, Commencement on May 26th at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, and recognition of the 50th anniversary class, the Class of 1965.

I am excited to announce that with the start of the 2015-2016 school year, Catholic High will launch the public phase of the 75th Anniversary Campaign, Lighting the Way ~ Transforming the World. This campaign is Catholic High’s fi rst multi-year, multi-project campaign. The involvement of our alumnae, parents, students, and friends is very important and will help secure our future! You will hear and see more about this exciting campaign and have the opportunity to be involved. I look forward to your participation as we continue to move Catholic High forward as a school rich in the history and academic tradition of our sponsors, The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia.

Catholic High remains strongly rooted in the Baltimore Community. I hope that you will join us in maintaining the strength of our presence by letting your light and our light shine for years to come!

Sincerely,

Barbara D. Nazelrod, Ph.D. ’68 President

Th ree of these young ladies are current TCHS Juniors! All three completed important projects to help their communities.

Sarah Lohrfi nk organized a teen wellness fair called Project LYFE to provide resources and information to help teens learn how to deal with mental and behavioral health issues that might aff ect them and/or their friends.

Abby Timmel led a team of volunteers to construct an impressive outdoor classroom at TCHS in order to provide her fellow students with more opportunities to spend time outdoors.

Catholic High Named Top Workplace for 2014!

Th e Catholic High School of Baltimore was recognized as one of “Th e Baltimore Sun Top 100 Workplaces” for the fourth year in a row! Th is is a recognition of the best places to work in the Baltimore Metro area. Th e evaluation for the Top Workplaces program is based upon feedback from an anonymous employee survey that was completed in the beginning of the school year.

Junior Chose Project LYFEOn October 11, 2014, Sarah Lohrfi nk, a Junior at Catholic High, hosted a Teen Wellness Fair as her Girl Scouts Gold Award project. Sarah chose this project, called Project LYFE (Love Yourself For Eternity,) because she wanted to provide resources for teens to overcome issues that they are faced with today. Over the past couple of years, Sarah has watched many friends struggle with eating disorders, self-injury and suicidal thoughts, all as a result of the stress and pressure placed on them by our society. Project LYFE provided these resources in a festive atmosphere which consisted of two local bands and two dynamic speakers, one on stress managements and the other on self-esteem and personal struggles with an eating disorder.

In addition, 12 local mental and behavioral health organizations were represented, providing information and activities for the attendees. Th e evening was a great success with close to 40 teenagers in attendance. Sarah has already been approached by two separate individuals requesting that she replicate this event for their communities/organizations. Th is highlights the importance and need for providing such events for today’s teenagers.

All of the Catholic High students who competed in the fi nals earned places on the Baltimore Delegation to Nationals.

At the National Catholic Forensics League Finals held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida both Arnelle Fonlon and Sarah Nakasone placed in the top 48 competitors in the nation in oral interpretation.
