Amarjit Singh welcomed the chief guest Mrs. Sanjana Arora, Principal of Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET - Diploma Wing). He also acknowledged the presence of the instructors and students of the college. The chief guest was introduced by PP Rtn. R.K. Luther, Director Vocational Service. Mrs. Sanjana Arora did her graduation in 1982 from F.C. College, Hissar. In 1984 she did her post graduation in Mrs. Sanjana Arora English Literature from Kurukshetra University. She worked as a lecturer for 3 years in Hissar. In 1988 she got married to Mr. S.P. Arora, who has recently retired as Commissioner of MC Panchkula cum ADC Panchkula, and is now a practicing in Punjab & Haryana High Court. She is blessed with a son and a daughter, and both are preparing for civil services. Mrs. Arora joined CCET in 1990 as lecturer, and promoted to Head of Department in 2007. In May 2016 she was appointed Principal of CCET (Diploma Wing). Inspired by National Skill Development Mission, Rotary Club of Chandigarh Midtown signed an MOU with Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (a Government undertaking) during Rotary Year 2015-16 and conducted two six months Skill development courses. CCET is providing the infrastructure and Rotary Chandigarh Midtown is bearing all expenses such as Teacher’s salaries, course material and toolkits which are given to successful students on completion of the course. Encouraged by the success of these courses for the students from economically weaker sections (EWS) to join these courses, President Amarjit Singh decided to take up Skill Development as a Signature Project during Rotary Year 2016-17. Four courses on Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration, Mobile Repairing, Electrical Wiring and Computer Basics (for girls) with more than 20 students each were planned. A team of Rotarians from our club led by PP R.K. Luther, selected 80 students for these courses which started in the first week of September 2016. While three of the four courses have been completed successfully, the fourth course on Computer Training has been extended to one year on demand of girls undergoing this course. On 24th March 2017 certificates and kits were distributed to all successful students in presence of Chief Guest Mrs. Sanjana Arora, who in her address thanked our club, and congratulated all the successful students. On behalf of our club R’ann Anupam Jain, who herself is running skill development centres, thanked Principal Mrs. Sanjana Arora for sharing her views and vision on skill development, and her support to our club. She also thanked PP R.K. Luther for his selfless commitment for the skill development program of our club. He is also responsible to associate our club with CCET (Diploma Wing) in RY 2015-16 which is the signature project of current year 2016-17. PP R.K. In our regular meeting on March 24, 2017 President Rtn. Amarjit Singh welcomed the chief guest Mrs. Sanjana Arora, Principal of Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET - Diploma Wing). On 20th March 2017 our club handed over the third Toilet Block for Girls (with 3 seats, one specially designed seat for handicapped) and hand washing area to Govt. High School, Maloya, U.T. Chandigarh built under a Global Grant-1635463 “Sanitary Rest Room Facility in Schools” with our partner Rotary Club Anchorage District 5010. Our special gratitude to Chief Guest District WinS Chair PDG Manmohan Singh who inaugurated the project in spite of his very busy schedule as his brother, Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi a cabinet minister in the newly formed Govt. of Punjab was assuming office almost at the same time. World TB day on 24th March 2017 observed by our Club

Rotary Chandigarh Midtown observed World TB day on 24th March 2017 as below :

1. Awareness Program in Association with State Health Society, RNTCP – CHANDIGARH at Civil Dispensary, Dadumajra, Chandigarh was presided over by Dr. Rakesh K. Kashyap, Director Health Services, U.T. Chandigarh in the presence of Dr. Rajiv Khaneja Program Incharge, RNTCP and Local Municipal Councillor Mrs. Promilla. Dr. Kashyap appreciated Rotary for playing a major role in eradication of Polio from the country and expressed his expectations for the same in the field of TB eradication also. He further appreciated

the Awareness Booklet got printed by our Club and distributed some copies himself to the public. VP Rtn. Salil Bali while speaking about Rotary assured RNTCP about the support and tie ups from Rotary for the cause of eradicating TB from India. The program was a huge success. 2. The second awareness program was conducted at Rural Health Polyclinic, near Gurdwara Sahib residential Colony in Ram Darbar. About 30 TB/HIV Patients along with their families attended the program. Dr. S.R. Paul the dispensary in-charge gave their details. PE Dr. Rita Kalra gave information about the treatments and procedure to follow. DCmS Rtn. Ashok Puri talked about the Rotary support for such patients. Other Rotarians present were PDG Shaju Peter, PP Dr. V.J.S. Vohra and Rtn. Jeeten Bhambri

3. The third awareness program organized by our club was at Govt. Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula under Principal Medical Officer Dr. Veena Singh. Also present were the State TB Officer Dr. Ramesh Sayal, TB Specialist Dr. Rajesh Rajju, number of doctors and support staff. Dr. Syal explained about the latest policies of the Government regarding the treatment procedures. Dr. Rajju gave a presentation about the latest treatment plans for treating a TB patient. The support staff of doctors were also present. PE Dr. Rita Kalra, VP Rtn. Salil Bali and DCmS Rtn. Ashok Puri were present. Awareness booklets were handed over to the Hospital staff and the patients.

Our sincere thanks to Chairman of Rotary India National T.B. Control Committee PRID Yash Das and District Governor Raman Aneja for their guidance. We also acknowledge the support from former DHS of Chandigarh PP Dr. Vanita Gupta.

Chandigarh Midtown wins District Golf Tournament

We had a record number of registrations in the District 3080 Golf Tournament hosted by our club on 26 March 2017 at Chandigarh Golf Club in which Rotarians from other Districts also participated. It was a well organized event by District Chair (Golf) PP Rtn. Harish Sethi. There were prizes in many categories. We had gracious presence of PRID Yash Das with Manju ji and DG Raman Aneja with Meenu ji. Chandigarh Midtown team won the tournament. (Detailed report / glimpses of the tournament will be reported in the next bulletin).

PP Rtn. Ajit S. Gulati has been appointed as the Technical Advisor (Electrical) to the Panjab University, Chandigarh. It is an Honorary assignment and this is a good opportunity for him to serve a very prestigious Institute. The immediate challenge is to upgrade the Sub Station.

IPP Kanan Diwan gave the details of the Global Grant and future plans under this grant. PDG Shaju Peter gave the background how this project was conceived, and appreciated the contribution of our international partner. Rtn. Salil Chopra briefed the students about importance of cleanliness. A MoU was signed with the school authorities for proper maintenance and upkeep of the Toilet Block. Headmaster Mr. Supinder Singh presented mementos to Chief Guest PDG Manmohan Singh, President Amarjit Singh, IPP Kanan Diwan, PDG Shaju Peter and PP Indrajeet Sengupta.

‘Sapno ki udaan’ for EWS children of our District with Spicejet

‘Sapno ki udaan’ was initiated by our District for the children from the under privileged section of the society (EWS), in collaboration with Spicejet Airlines. It was an exciting

moment for these children when they took the flight of fantasy, a memorable and an enjoyable joy ride for them.

A group of 40 children, in age

group of 10 to 16 years, were selected from government schools of 6 states of District 3080 by various Rotary Clubs under DG Raman Aneja. At Chandigarh airport they were issued boarding passes. The flight took off with these children, accompanied by 7 Rotarian volunteers, for about an hour. They were also served meals during the flight. The children were very grateful to Rotary and Spicejet Airlines for giving them this unique opportunity.

2nd April 2017 - Centennial Cricket Final Match

Centennial Cricket Tournament final match will be played on Sunday, 2nd April 2017 at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16, Chandigarh.

There will be two matches. First match will be friendly match between District Governor 16-17 (District Team) v/s Smiling Heroes President 16-17.

Second Match will be played between finalists of Centennial Cricket Tournament, Rotary Club Ambala ( Zone 5 ) v/s Rotary Club Baddi ( Zone 2).

The registration fee is Rs. 300/- (single) and Rs. 500/- (couple) including lunch and high tea.
