Thank you to all who
donated for the piano
repair, whether you baked
or purchased bakery, or
bought raffle tickets for the
Valentine’ s Day basket.
Your help is appreciated
and the piano sounds
brand new!
Dear Friends of SCR:
Thoughts of spring are in the air! Here at SCR it's been a fun winter
with many joining in the new exercise offerings, partaking in an art
class, keeping busy making homeless mats out of plastic bags,
enjoying some Groundhog Day Games or a Valentine's Day party! A
lot is happening. If you haven't been in, please stop by and see for
yourself. If there is something you'd like to get going, ask us about it.
New activity ideas are welcome!
SCR will be gearing up for our annual Senior Olympics, which is
around the corner. We will be providing many "training" opportunities
so you can get ready to compete. Please look for registration
opportunities in March. If you have never tried it, please consider
participating in a fun, social, and active week.
Community sponsors for the Olympics are still needed. If you know of
a business, organization, or business that might want to be a sponsor,
please let us know.
As always, I would like to express our gratitude to all of you who
volunteer at SCR in one of the many capacities. You are
invaluable. We appreciate you each and every day..
Come check out all the happenings!
All the best,
Liz

I Almost Forgot About You By: Terry McMillan
From the same author who wrote ‘How Stella Got Her
Groove Back’ , McMillan composes a heartfelt, inspirational
novel about a Doctor who has everything from a
successful career, family, friends and a beautiful home.
Despite all these things, Dr. Georgia Young still feels
restless at heart, and takes the time in mid-life to reinvent
herself, sending her on a wild journey full of new
beginnings and a second chance at love, proving that it is
never too late to decide who YOU want to be,

MARCH’S FEATURED SPEAKERS
March 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. —What happens if I become too sick to handle my finances? How do I choose someone to make decisions for me? What’s the difference between a
Power of Attorney and a Guardianship? Join Sheila Fell from the Scranton Road Legal Clinic to learn more about
Financial Power of Attorney.
March 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.—The Cleveland Department of Aging will assist you with HEAP, food assistance,
prescription drugs, utilities, Medicare premiums, phone service, eye care and more. Come see what benefits you are
eligible for!
Sleeping Mats for the Homeless
Interested in helping those in need? Join SCR participants to make
sleeping mats for the homeless out of plastic grocery bags. We will
meet at SCR from 9:30-11:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
Our goal is to make 10 mats throughout the next four months. We
need your help! You do not need to know how to crochet to
participate in this project. In order for the bags to be crocheted
into a mat, we must fold, cut and loop the bags first. The prep work
is very important...Many hands make light work! If you plan on
donating bags, please check with an SCR staff member beforehand,
and please be sure that bags are CLEAN! Please call 216-749-5367
or e-mail Bethany at [email protected] with any questions. Thank
you for your interest and assistance with this project!
In Case of Inclement Weather...
In the event of dangerous driving
conditions due to snow and/or icy
conditions, or extreme temperatures
which could cause hardship, SCR
may close for the day. Stay tuned to
Channel 3 or 5 for weather
related closing information. We will
exercise good judgment with the
safety of the seniors, our volunteers
and staff in mind. In case of closing,
no meals will be served or delivered.
Thank you for your
understanding.
Meals on Wheels Volunteers
During the winter months, it is
understandably difficult to keep
Meals on Wheels Volunteers due
to the weather. If you are willing
to help deliver and confident
driving or walking in the snow
and cold, please contact Kim
Susak at 216-749-5367 ext. 1121
to discuss volunteering (even if
it’s just once every
other week).
Thank you for your
consideration!

Transportation is available to any resident of Old Brooklyn or bordering areas if you are 60 years of age and
ambulatory. Our vans are wheelchair accessible, but we do not provide escort service. We provide
transportation for congregate meals, shopping, medical and hair appointments. We ask that you schedule
appointments ONE week in advance. Freewill donations are accepted, but NOT obligatory. Please call
216-749-5367 for your transportation needs. Scheduling is done through the FRONT DESK ONLY, not
through SCR drivers. Thank you for your cooperation as we change our policies.
