A Note from the Principal

Welcome to the 2014 school year! I am eager to begin a new year of learning. Each school year brings with it the promise of what is before us. I believe this year will present opportunities for our school community to grow closer together and for our school to continue our quest for excellence for every Little Bison.

It’s been a busy first couple of weeks here at D.A. Mallory Elementary. We are thrilled to see so many new and returning faces, students and teachers alike, filling the classroom with fun and contagious energy.

D.A. Mallory Elementary is a very special place…and you can feel it the moment you walk through the door. We will work closely with students, families and our local community to make sure your child gets the best educational opportunities possible!

We encourage you to become part of your child’s education. Some of the ways that you can do this is by participating in our PTO, attending school family nights, and volunteering in the school or classroom.

Thank you for supporting our school!

Wanda Johnson

No School Monday, September 1 Labor Day

Grandparents Night – Sept. 16thMallory Elementary & Long Lane Elementary invite students, parents, and grandparents to attend our “Mr. Potato Head” Family Night at the D.A. Mallory campus on Tuesday, September 16th. There will be activities located in each hallway for you to participate in with your student, then head to the cafeteria for a baked potato and toppings. You can enter a prize drawing , which we will draw on Wednesday at school! This is a come and go event, so you may attend any time between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. We hope you join us for some Mr. Potato Head fun!

Frosty Friday

Don’t forget to bring your dollar on Friday, Sept. 5th for Frosty Friday. PTO will be selling ice cream bars. The money from this fundraiser will be used to help pay for PK-4 field trips this year.

A very important part of making this a successful year is you- the parents! As a Title I school, we value and encourage parent involvement. For those who may not know, being a Title I school means that we receive federal monies as a means for “Improving The Academic Achievement Of The Disadvantaged” (U.S. Dept. of Education). One facet of improving the academic achievement of our students is parent involvement, and one way we try to encourage parent involvement is through our Title I Math & Reading Family Nights.

Our first family night of the school year will be our “Mr. Potato Head” themed Grandparents Night on Tuesday, September 16th from 5 to 7 pm. This will be an opportunity for students to show their grandparents (and the rest of their families) their classrooms and to show off some of their work on display. In addition, students (and families) will be able to participate in some math and reading activities.

If you would like to know more about Title I, you can go to the U.S. Department of Education website at ED.gov. You can also stop by a brief presentation at family night where we will be sharing more information about the Title I program. Thanks for helping us get off to a tremendous start this school year. Study after study shows that parent involvement plays the biggest factor in a student’s education success. As always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to call, email, or schedule an appointment to see us.
