Dear Parents and Guardians, As we send this last newsletter for the 2010-2011 school year to print, I want to thank you again for the opportunity you have given us to work with you in the formation of your daughters. As you have heard me say often, it is a sacred partnership that we share and we take that very seriously. We say a special thank you to the parents of our recent graduates, the Class of 2011. We will miss them and you. To the parents of our new Bambies, the Class of 2015, we extend a warm wel-come. We look forward to meeting you at our meetings in the fall. May these days of summer be special ones for all of you. Know that your intentions are re-membered in my prayers. May the Lord renew both you and your daughters in body, soul, and spirit during this season. God bless you.
Sr. Mary E. Smith, IHM

From one thing to the next—events were happening every weekend around St. Hubert. Whether your daughter was a Freshmen going to her first dance or a Senior going to the Mother-Daughter Brunch, Senior Prom, and Sen-ior Memory Night or somewhere in between, it was quite a busy Spring season around school. Here are some highlights from our Spring events based upon each class: The Class of 2011
Mother-Daughter Brunch Our largest crowd yet of mothers and daughters started graduation season off the right way with a Sunday morning Mass in the Auditorium followed by brunch at the Pen Ryn Mansion on the Delaware in early April. It was a beautiful scene along the Delaware as each student enjoyed a Sunday morning breakfast and/or lunch with their mom, grand-moms, and aunts. It is sure to be even more crowded next year. Senior Prom The Class of 2011 and their escorts looked stunning at Kings II Caterers on the night of April 29th. The prom, with its theme of “Masquerade” was attended by close to 90% of the class. The gowns and tuxedoes, the hair and make-up, the nails and tans, the flowers and colors, the pictures and videos, all looked absolutely beautiful. Not only that, but the personalities, actions, and demeanor of the Class of 2011 matched its beauty. Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation On June 8 the Class of 2011 celebrated its Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation Exercises. After two days of re-hearsals in stifling 90 degree heat in the Auditorium, the Mass and Graduation went very smoothly. The Mass was held at Our Lady of Ransom in the morning, with over 30 students participating as altar servers, offertory processors, readers, and banner carriers and the remainder of the class making their final Mass together as special as ever. Fr. Sodano celebrated the liturgy, Erin Hughes, as President of Student Council, gave her final speech to the class, and Sr. Mary Smith addressed the students and parents. Graduation continued later in the day at Holy Family University, where 216 students became the newest members of the Alumnae Association. After the invo-cation and National Anthem, which was sung beautifully by Taylor Plunkett-Clements, Lindsey Stasiorowski gave the Salutatorian speech. Following the singing of “We Believe” by the graduates, Jessica Eng, Valedicto-rian, addressed her classmates and guests. Ms. Erdman then recognized the scholarships, awards, and grants re-ceived by the class, which totaled over $14.6 million. Our presider, Bishop Daniel Thomas, spoke of the con-stant changes in life, such as technology, jobs, schools, friends, and even boyfriends, but the one thing that never changes and never leaves, is… Jesus Christ. Ms. Craig announced the award winners based upon involvement in activities and perfect attendance over four years. Special recognition was given to Nina Figlestahler for her twelve years of Perfect Attendance. Ms. Craig then announced the students who were awarded medals for out-standing academic performance in all the various disciplines over the past four years. Finally, Ms. Craig an-nounced the five special awards winners, who were as follows: The Julia Michel Award for service and depend-ability, Megan Montgomery; the Sr. Teresa of Avila Award for perseverance and overcoming obstacles, Danielle Makadon; the Parents Association Award for involvement and dedication to the school, Devon Stanley; the Alumnae Award for versatility and devotion to the school, Lisa Robbins; and the Faculty Award for spirit and pride; Megan Decker. Finally, the 216 graduates received their diplomas and were officially graduates of St. Hubert. To close the ceremony, Sr. Mary Smith congratulated the students and their parents, thanked the Class of 1961 for attending, and asked a graduate of 1961 to present the Class of 2011 with their Alumnae Flag, which symbolizes their graduation and entrance into the Alumnae Association. The Alma Mater was sung one last time as the Class of 2011 processed out to the “real world” or Senior Week, whichever came first.

The Class of 2012
Ring Mass On May 4, the Class of 2012 received their school rings during a liturgy at St. Bernard. Once again, the percent-age of students receiving a ring was outstanding, which shows their love of their school and their classmates. The Ring Mass was a beautiful symbol of their Catholic Identity and pride in being a Bambie. Fr. Sodano showed his many “hats” and what they mean and symbolize and compared them to the symbolism of wearing a school ring on your finger. Junior Prom Saturday, March 26 was the night of the Junior Prom and although the class is small, most of them attended the Junior Prom and all of them looked beautiful with their hair, make-up, gowns, nails, shoes, and accessories. It was a special “Night in Paris” at Cannstatters for them and their dates and was just like going to Paris, France, or so it seemed. The Class of 2013
Soph Hop The Class of 2013 held their annual dance in the school’s cafeteria on Friday, April 8 with 70% of the students attending. It was just like a cheesesteak…some came wit’ and some came wit’out a date. Either way, the stu-dents had a great night and, despite the heat, really danced the night away in our cafeteria. The Class of 2014
Freshmen Dance The first high school dance of the Freshman Class was held on March 11 and although it was still cold outside, it was warm and cozy inside as the Class of 2014 made the cafeteria a very special place with all their decorations, balloons, and overall excitement of the night. You could hardly tell it was late Winter outside. Students of the Month Based upon academic achievement, involvement in activities and/or sports, and an overall, pleasant, responsible personality, the following young women were selected as students of the month during March, April and May: March April May Senior: Taylor Plunkett-Clements Kristen Gibson Katy Mallon Junior: Krista Patterson Gina Montgomery Nicole Wagner Sophomore: Charlotte Kucowski Jo-Hanna Armbruster Lea Strausser Freshman: Jill Salwach Victoria Lewis Lisa Acerba
Special Events, Activities, and Accomplishments: The following events and accomplishments took place during the last two months of school:
… The Class of 2012 received their rings on May 4 in a beautiful Mass celebrated by the mad-hatter himself, Fr. Sodano, at St. Bernard and a reception sponsored by the Parents Association at Rosewood Caterers immediately following the Mass. … On May 11, the school’s orchestra and chorus celebrated the end of the year with a banquet at Cannstatters. … May 12 was a perfect day for the school to celebrate a Liturgy in honor of Mary, our Mother. ... May 12 was also the day of the annual
Mini-Walk for Breast Cancer sponsored by Mr. Barrucci and Ms. Green. This event, where the students walk around the outside of the school three times, which is close to one mile, raised close to $2,000 for Breast Cancer.
SAINT HUBERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS page 4
… The Clothing and Textiles Class sponsored their second annual Fashion Show in the auditorium on May 13 to show off all the various work they produced during the school year. … In mid May, Mr. Barrucci took six of our students to the CSC Commissioning Mass at the Cathedral in Center City. … May 17 was the evening of the Academic Honors Convocation at the Cathedral for the top academic students of each school in the Archdiocese. St. Hubert was represented by Jessica Eng, Sarah Howshall, Alyssa Kelly, Molly King, Lisa Rob-bins, and Lindsey Stasiorowski. … The night of May 19 was a night for the school to thank all the volunteers of the school with a dinner at the Ashburner Inn. … “Echoings,” our school’s literary magazine, moderated by Ms. Gina MacKenzie ‘93, was distributed to students. This year’s theme was that of being “On Stage”, where the book was divided into three parts: audition, rehearsal, and performance. It had numerous sto-ries, poems, photos, drawings, and creative pieces from the minds and hands our student body. … On May 20, the Senior Class came together for a night of memories at the Senior Memory Night, which was full of laughs because of the gag awards that were given to the class, full of sighs because of the slide show that was shown, and full of tears because of the songs played at the end of the night. … This year, the annual Art Exhibit was held in the evening on Tuesday, May 24 in the gymnasium. Many students, from beginner to master, produced outstanding works of art for all to see. Following the Exhibit, our musicians and chorus delighted their parents and friends with our annual Spring Concert. … The morning of May 25 was the day our Academic Champions celebrated a Breakfast of Champions because of their dedication to academic clubs, like Mathletes, Robotics, Model UN and the newly founded Jefferson Awards Team for Public Service. … May 25 was the night of our Dance and Drama Club performances in the auditorium. … May 27 was the day that students received this year’s yearbook, Calling Echo, which was a wonderful review of this past school year with many photos, captions, and information about the year. With a colorful, heart cover with a picture of the front of the school building inside the hearts, Ms. Everling and her staff did an excellent job of showing “Our Home Away From Home”. … The night of June 1 was the school’s fourth annual Spirit Night, where the four classes competed against each other in dances, games, and contests to see who has the most school spirit and the most amount of teamwork. This year, the Senior Class prevailed, but only by a slight margin, over the Sophomores. The Class of 2012 will be highly challenged next year by the Junior class. … The fifth and final issue of “Tally-Ho”, the school newspaper, was distributed on June 6. … June 6 was the night of the annual Sports Banquet, where All-Catholics were recognized, Senior athletes applauded, and special awards given to some special players and teams, such as the Indoor Track & Field team, who won our first-ever PCL Championship dur-ing the Winter sports season. … The Class of 2011 won numerous awards in their final school assembly on June 7 and followed their last time in the St. Hubert building with a picnic at Russo Park sponsored by the Student Council. … On June 7, Sr. Mary Smith hosted our Scholarship Night where the memorial scholarships were awarded. It is an opportunity for the recipients to meet and express gratitude to those responsible for the scholarships. … Ms. Benjamin received many blouses, jumpers, and polo shirts from the Class of 2011 as a donation that will be used by other students next fall. … Each class had its final assemblies on June 15, 16, and 17 where academic awards for the highest average this year were given by Ms. Erdman and perfect attendance certificates awarded by Ms. Benjamin. ...Finally, Fr. Sodano dismissed the students with a final blessing for the summer!

End of School The 2010-2011 school year ended on June 17, 2011. Report cards were mailed home the week of June 20. Stu-dents with any outstanding tuition, fees, books, etc. will not receive reports or rosters until these obligations are met. Please be aware that the 2nd semester grade is not an average of the 3rd and 4th quarters. It is calculated as 40% of the 3rd quarter, 40% of the 4th quarter and 20% of the semester exam. The final grade is an average of the 2 semesters. The exception to this formula is the final grades for students in the Algebra 1 classes. Parents/guardians were sent information with the report cards as to how the final grade for the Algebra 1 classes was deter-mined.
Rosters Rosters for the 2011-2012 school year will be mailed in mid-August to those students whose financial obligations have been met, and whose school fee and first month’s tuition for the 2011-2012 school year have been paid. Sev-eral students have not yet reregistered for the upcoming school year. Rosters will not be provided for these stu-dents until they have registered. If you know your daughter will not be returning to St. Hubert, please contact the Academic Affairs Office to ar-range for withdrawal.

For the 2011-2012 school year it is mandated by the Philadelphia Department of Health that all students have a 2nd varicella (chicken pox) immunization or show proof of having the disease.
