From Katrina Brossia, Financial Operations ManagerUnderstanding Colorado School Finance and CategoricalProgram Funding.

Colorado public schools receive funding from a variety of sources. However, most revenues to Colorado's 178 school districts areprovided through the Public School Finance Act of 1994 (asamended).

In budget year 2017-18, this legislation provides for over $6.6 billionof funding to Colorado school districts via state taxes ($4.2 billion),local specific ownership (vehicle registration) taxes ($172.7 million),

and local property taxes ($2.24 billion). Moneys provided via the Public School Finance Actof 1994 are available to each school district to fund the costs of providing public education.

AST Tip of the WeekStudy Timeline (Part 3). One week before an exam, you should begin creating a studyguide from your notes. This will help you to find missing or confusing information in yournotes so that you can ask final questions in class. This is also a good time to work with asmall group of your peers to review the materials from class and quiz each other. For yournext exam, we encourage you to try meeting with a group from your class somewhereoutside of school that will be relaxing but still productive.

Classical Manners for the Modern Youth

From the 1934 high-schooltextbook "Good Manners" usedin "Household Science" class ofthat day:

“Rule No. 30. The Formal Invitation.(cont.)If an engraved form is used, the namesof the single guests, 'Mr. and Mrs.William Ford’s,' will be written in byhand, in a space provided for thepurpose. For a tea, a less formal styleof invitation is used. A small, white card

fitted into a white envelope may be used, with the invitation written.

If the tea or reception is given in honor of some one, this may be indicated in the first

line in the invitation.

For tea-parties at home, most invitations are telephoned, or a note is written on acorrespondence card. 'For Josephine Greiser,' may be written under 'Mrs. JosephLawrence Greiser.'

The most popular form of all for an invitation to tea is the form written on the visiting-card.

Alumni Update from Josiah Schwindt, UnitedStates Air Force (LCHS '17 LEGIO XIII).

Dear Mr. Schaffer,

I thought I would write and let you know how I'm doing. I recently graduated Basic MilitaryTraining! Though the training was difficult, it was made so much easier do to my experiencesat Liberty. The two months of training flew by. There was a lot of schooling and memorywork, but Liberty prepared me for it perfectly, and thanks to Liberty, I was able to become anhonor graduate. This means that I was in the top ten percent of my graduating class at BMT,which had 716 total graduates. The requirements for honor graduate are very difficult; onehas to earn a satisfactory (90%) core-value rating on the PT test and on the “end-of-course”test. A core-value rating is a grading system the Air Force uses to ensure all airmen areperforming above and beyond expectations.

LCHS's rigorous Capstones and Foundation Stones helped me achieve the satisfactoryrating on all my weeks of training. The PT test is comprised of three components: Push-ups,sit-ups, and a 1.5-mile run. The training I received from Mr. Lovely and Coach Mayerprepared me for the physical standards of BMT. On my final PT, test I achieved a score of97.9%. I managed to do 68 push-ups in a minute, 62 sit-ups in a minute, and I ran a mileand a half in 9:46. The tough training and education I got on the track team helped me getsuch a great score on the PT test.

The final achievement I had to accomplish was the EOC. My score was a 97%! The studyhabits Liberty instilled in me helped me achieve this score. I earned the highest score in myflight and the second-highest score in my squadron.

Now I am in technical training, and once again, I am finding that Liberty has more thanprepared me for this phase of my life. Due to the amazing curriculum at Liberty, I havealready learned the material they are teaching in technical training. Dr. Polhemus physicsclass helped a lot with this. The way he taught about electricity, and all that it entails, helpedme not only excel in the class, but also help my classmates excel because I have used histeaching tactics to help my classmates.

I would like to thank you and all of my teachers at Liberty for preparing me so well for thisstage in my life. While at Liberty, I never appreciated how much the school would help my

future. Once again, thank you for creating such a great school!

With warmest regards,AB Josiah Schwindt

Please remind your students to wash their hands regularly (and abstainfrom other germ spreading behaviors) and please keep them home if they are not well. Somevery specific guidelines for this can be found on our school and district policy posted onour website (HERE). Please print off this document and keep it in an accessibleplace. Please remember that students may not attend school until they are fever and vomitfree (without medications) for a full 24 hours. This means if they had a fever on Monday andit finally broke on noon at Tuesday, they wouldn't be considered able to attend school untilnoon on Wednesday (24 hours) even if they seem like they are feeling better. For somehelpful tips, please view the list (HERE).
