I want to thank everyone for their beautifully painted items to help raise money for our Chapter. . Please notice the group picture that will be in this newsletter (page 5). Three Florida Chap- ters were asked to paint composition notebooks as gifts for the teachers at the conven- tion. Our Chapters share was 17. Thank you to all who helped. Everyone was amazed at Nancy Walshs demonstration of the Quick Wood and her com- pleted gourd Santa with a 3-d face and 3-d bunnies. Thank you Nancy. Oceans of Color Convention I am very happy with the results of the Marketplace table sales. I forgot to take a picture of our table with all of our items, but I do have a picture of Mary Lou and me from Thursday (page 5). The vintage key chains that open the paint bottles, sold out the first day. The sun visors were a big hit also. I have about six visors left. The signs didnt sell as well as we had hoped, but we plan to put them in our Mad Hatter Auction and Luncheon in March 2018. Any money we make on the signs is pure profit. The Convention will return to Daytona Beach next year. Plans for a Marketplace table next year are doubtful. It was a lot of work for all involved. Thank you to all who painted key chain tags, sun visors, and signs. A special thank you to all who help staff the Marketplace table. A little help goes a long ways. Lana KIDS R FIRST Kudos to Noreen for painting 50 (yes 50!) boxes for the Kids R First Program! We need to paint as many as we can for the kids. Just keep in mind that we do it for the foster children. These boxes are so precious to them. As I previously said, I will try to find and place and time to get together and paint boxes

From your President, Lana Raymond:

We had a nice turnout at our May 6th Chapter meeting where we discussed our Market-place table at the convention. I want to thank everyone for their beautifully painted items to help raise money for our Chapter. . Please notice the group picture that will be in this newsletter (page 5). Everyone was amazed at Nancy Walsh’s demonstration of the Quick Wood and her com-pleted gourd Santa with a 3-d face and 3-d bunnies. Thank you Nancy.

Oceans of Color Convention I am very happy with the results of the Marketplace table sales. KIDS R FIRST

Kudos to Noreen for painting 50 (yes 50!) boxes for the Kids R First Program! We need to paint as many as we can for the kids. Just keep in mind that we do it for the foster children. These boxes are so precious to them. As I previously said, I will try to find and place and time to get together and paint boxes

From your 1st Vice President: Just a friendly reminder of our June 3 chapter project, Alise Duerr will be presenting

a demonstration coloring silk scarfs using Sharpies and our main project the beautiful

Trumpet flower Batik. Supplies for this class are minimal, and a bargain at $5.00!!

The following have signed up:

Nancy W, Jane V, Ruth M, Marylou P, Lana R, Lee F, Judy H and Linda D.

Cut-off date for registration is Saturday, May 27.

Our July class will be taught by Penny Webb. This will be a miniature clipboard or

whatever surface you choose. Penny can provide a clipboard for about $1.00,

prepped, and ready to prepare acrylics. If you choose a different surface, Penny re-

quest it is Gessoed prior to class.

A supply list is available upon registration. Cut-off for registration will be June 26. I

will need a count for Penny to prep clipboards. These would make great gift items, so

purchase a couple for future use.

Below is a picture of the project we will be completing.

Just an FYI, I found an article in a past issue of Decorative Painter, issue #4, 2014. It

is a waterfall project by Penny completed on a fan blade. If you do not have this issue,

it can be found in the archive files on the SDP website.

Thanks to Lana and Jane V. for volunteering to bring snacks and Nancy for help with

set-up.

AJ Barr

Welcome New Member AJ BARR

A little bit about this interesting lady. AJ loves animals and is a vegetarian. For ten years AJ owned and operated a commercial art and pottery studio near Jacksonville. Prior to that she had a cor-porate career in finance and engineering program management. AJ has had a home in Florida for over 20 years. She has lived in various places across the country from East to West. In 2014 Palm Coast became her permanent residence. AJ’s artistic journey began with colored

pencils. She took classes and subsequently

joined the CPSA. Linda Doup, another

pencil artist, introduced her to PCDP. The

painting classes and camaraderie of fellow

members offered a new and enjoyable ex-

perience. She decided to join SDP. Lucky

for us and our gain!
