January Letter from President Lana Raymond:

Happy New Year!

I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to be the President of our Chapter. I appreciate the kind

words of encouragement from all of you. It is my goal to be involved in all of our events and to help our

Chapter prosper, but most of all I want us to have FUN!

Mad Hatter Auction and Luncheon: As you know our Chapter had scheduled our second annual Mad

Hatter Auction and Luncheon for March 2017. Because the Society of Decorative Painters Convention is

being held in Daytona Beach in May 2017, the Board decided to not have the auction until March 2018.

Having the Convention in Daytona Beach is a great opportunity for our members to attend and have a

learning experience at the Convention. Also, we will be working on small items to sell at the Convention

marketplace to raise money for our Chapter. Please continue to work on items for our auction in 2018 to

help make it a great success.

NOTE: If you have any items that you painted for the auction, please feel free to bring it to the January

7th meeting and I will take it to the storage unit for safe keeping.

Our January 7th class will be a “Free Paint” day for UFOs (unfinished objects). This is a day to relax, visit

with other members, and paint. Please bring your surface, paints, and painting supplies. We will have a

pot luck dinner that day. Let me know if you are coming so we will know how many to plan for. Also, let

me know if you would like to bring something for our luncheon. Those who have said they are coming

are: Lee F., Ruth M., Lana R., Mary Lou P., Judy B., Nancy W. (and a guest), Jan N.,Georgia S., Barbara

B., Barbara J., and Ann H.

I sent out an email with a description of our February 4th Zentangle Angel class with Cheri Bergquist. Sev-

eral of our members took a Zentangle class with Cheri in September and they said the finished project

was beautiful and that Cheri is a wonderful teacher. Even if you have tried your hand at Zentangle, you

may learn a new shortcut or technique to make your “tangling” more enjoyable. I bought a small set of

watercolor pencils for use by the class. Cheri will provide the watercolor paper with the pattern traced on

it for $6.00. You will need Micro pens (01, 005, 8) and watercolor pencils if you have them.

The signup up sheet is in the newsletter.

I hope to see you on January 7th and February 4th!

Ladies, I know some of you knit or crochet. This is a website I found and wanted to share with you. You can get more information and the free pattern from the website.

www.knittedknockers.org Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usual-ly expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomforta-ble. They typically require special bras or cami-soles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, and beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. Our special volunteer knitters provide these free to those requesting them. Knitted knockers can be ad-justed to fill the gap for breasts that are uneven and easily adapted for those going through re-construction by simply removing some of the stuffing. The purpose of this website is to help connect volunteer knitters with breast cancer survivors to offer free Knitted Knockers to any woman who wants them. There is a huge demand for Knitted Knockers that can’t be met by any one group but together we can do it! If someone in each area will set a goal of meeting the need in just their county it can happen! Lana

PCDP’s Sign Paint-In Monday, January 23rd, 2017 at Plantation Oaks

From 10am to 2pm We need your help to paint some small signs that would be appropriate for use somewhere in the home or office. These signs will be used as a fund raiser for our chapter and sold at SDP’s National Convention in Daytona Beach in May. Our chapter will be able to keep all proceeds from things we sell at this venue. We are fortunate enough to be able to once again use that lovely, large room at Plantation Oaks’ recreation center to work on this project on Monday, January 23rd, from 10am to about 2pm. Nancy Walsh has agreed to facilitate this project and you all know she is full of good ideas and suggestions. Light refreshments will be served. Bring your acrylic painting supplies, templates, a lunch and be ready to have a good time. If you have any cute sayings or small surface that would be appropriate for these signs, bring them along too. We have a few sign surfaces that have already been base coated. Please call or e-mail Ruth McDonald if you will be able to participate so that your name can be added to the access list for Plantation Oaks, which is a gated community. Plantation Oaks is located in Flagler Beach on Old Kings Road headed south toward Old Dixie Highway. It is on the left side of the road if you are headed south. Hope to hear from you and see you there! We really need everyone’s help! Thanks, Ruth McDonald
