Accelerated

payment for

surgery

Acceleration payment benefit for specified surgical treatments

Friends Life will provide an advance payment of 25% of the critical illness benefit (maximum

£25,000) if the member is on the NHS waiting list for one of the following types of

surgical treatments:

• aorta graft surgery

• coronary artery by-pass grafts

• heart valve replacement or repair

• open heart surgery

To be eligible for this acceleration payment benefit, the member must be on the

relevant NHS waiting list for the hospital where it is proposed the surgical treatment

is to take place.

Benefit will be reduced by the amount of the Accelerated payment made. This haspotential to make a split trust ineffective for IHT purposes.
