Each household is allowed a maximum of 4 bags of household waste, unless “extra bag tags” are purchased from their local Municipality Office. All refuse must be placed in a bag with a

maximum capacity of 100 litres and weigh no more than 20 kg. If the bags are placed in an acceptable refuse container, the

container shall not exceed a volume of 100 litres.

The Alliance Legion #94 strives to be an active contributor to our community. One of our main projects is the Alliance Cemetery. In the past, we have purchased benches, the columbarium and fund the ongoing maintenance and upgrading to the grounds. Other community projects and contributions include the Alliance Fire Department, the Alliance Museum, The Alliance W.I., Alliance Library, Alliance Cenotaph, Alliance Community Hall, Alliance GEMS, Alliance July 1st, Alliance Santa Daze (fireworks) and the Alliance Sports ground. Other donations to out of town projects include Battle Bend School, Castor Paintearth Lodge, Forestburg Big Knife Villa, Galahad Health Centre, Killam Long Term Care Centre, The Flagstaff

Christmas Sharing Program, Wounded Warriors, the Burn Camp, contribution to a rehabilitation chair for veterans at the University of Alberta, and the Social 30 Award at CHSPS. During the year, our major fundraisers are the Mother's Day

Breakfast, the July First Breakfast, and our Annual Poppy Drive. We also work a casino approximately every two and half years.

We greatly appreciate the support of the community of Alliance and the surrounding area, which makes our contributions pos-sible.

Thank you.

Sports Day

We are making preparations for our 103rd annual sports day. As usual the day will kick off with the Legion breakfast at the Community Hall followed by the parade at 11:30. Wouldn’t it be exciting if we could have a parade the likes of our Centennial parade - hope you will get your entry ready for the big day. The concession booth in the arena will once again be run by Dixie Streicher and company, so we will not be looking for volunteers for this. We hope this will free up our local folks to help out in various other activities. The Ag Society will be doing the pie booth and a roast beef supper. As in previous years we will be canvassing for donations of beans, coleslaw, pickles, coffee and butter for the supper. The afternoon activities include the gymkhana during which the Daring Divas ( trick riding team) will provide a short show – time to be announced at a later date. — There will be races and games as well as the cash sandpile and a bouncy house for the youngsters. The Fire Department will be running the Beer Gardens. There will be ball games again this year, if you know anyone that has a slow-pitch team they would like to enter, please contact Mark Towers at (403) 740-2490 if you can not reach Mark Towers please contact Leslie Ganshirt and she will forward on your message. In the arena will likely be some market vendors and games of bunnock, croquet and horseshoes. Wall of Fame Inductions will take place at 2 PM at the gazebo by the Museum, and the Museum will likely be open as usual. Following the Wall of Fame, the Library will be celebrating 100 years since it first began. The Library Board is currently working on activities to celebrate the occasion so watch for more information next month.

~Needless to say if an event of this nature is to be successful, we need volunteers. ~ 1) Someone to plan, organize and run the kids races and games – these are set for 1 PM and

would run for half an hour or a bit more. 2) One person to organize and run the Croquet games 3) One person to organize and run the Bunnock games 4) One person to organize and run the Horseshoe games -

—Those who do these things would co-ordinate with Diane Dammann to plan and carry out the tournament. This activity is scheduled for 3 to 5 PM—

5) Show and Shine – was a huge success last year we are currently finalizing who will organize it this year and will advise. Now is the time to get that ride shined up and ready!

6) The Fire Department would appreciate help in the Beer Gardens - contact Leslie Ganshirt

Anyone who is interested in helping is asked to contact one of the committee members - Laura Towers, Denise Nychyporuk, Diane Dammann, Muriel Fankhanel, Ralph Davidson or

Tammy Lindquist.

Let’s make this another great day for our community!

Charlotte Curtis has always been saving some newspaper clippings, funeral cards, etc. but has been in earnest since Aug 2013 collecting EVERY Obituary, Birth, marriage and Anniversary of people who were born, raised or died within Flagstaff borders and around the fringe. She is preserving them alphabetically on acid free paper with acid free plastic sleeves in large binders. She believes this will be a great historical resource for anyone wanting to locate or learn about their ancestor both now and in the future. Many folks have had the same idea of collecting these kind of items over the years and kept them in shoe boxes, albums, etc. but when they pass on the family often simply discards them for lack of knowing what else to do with them. It would be most appreciated if you would like to contribute to this project of having everyone’s clippings preserved and filed as one large resource for everyone to access. (Be sure to make copies of any you want for yourself). So far, in just over 6 yrs, over 1000 obits have been collected in two near full binders! It is amazing! She is excited to include the 1000’s of write-ups of those who have passed on in previous years and are likely to be lost to trash if no one cares about them. She has another binder just for wedding write-ups and Anniversary milestone pictures including as well birth announcements. Please contact Charlotte at 780 889-2139 or 780 678-0141 or mail to Box 45 Heisler, AB T0B 2A0 She will also be pleased to come and pick up, within the Flagstaff Region, your stash as well.
