LYING A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17.”   The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only 16 chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."

CLARK CENTER PRESERVATION SERVICE Clark Center Church's annual Preservation Sunday and worship will be September 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Clark Center Church.  The public is invited. This year's worship will have the theme "The Church's One Foundation" and will feature a religious, gospel and joyful music concert by the McCarlson family of rural Webster, SD.  Mike, Julie and their family members are dedicated musicians who have been pleasing midwest church members with their music for many years.  The McCarlsons come to Clark Center with accolades from those who have heard their musical message of praise.   Preservation efforts this year will include refurbished and refinished front doors and new front, long-life windows.  The window project was funded by the contributions of five individuals and families. There will be a free will offering to benefit Clark Center's continued preservation efforts. Lunch will follow the service.

WELCA VISITS WOOKEYS

Our August meeting was held at Wookey's Assisted Living with 27 WELCA members and residents present.  Pam Seefeldt opened the meeting with prayer and continued with Bible Study.  The theme for this year is "Giving" with the story of "Being Like the Widow" in which she gave all

she had.    The Fall Retreat at Ne-So-Dak will be Saturday, September 12 with registration at 9 am.  A sign-up sheet was passed if you were going or would drive.  Discussion was held concerning the grinder attachment needed for the cranberries.  Pam Seefeldt thought she had the attachment; however a motion was made, seconded, and passed to purchase one in case that attachment did not fit our mixer.

Quilts, layettes, school bags, health kits will be taken to Grace Lutheran in Watertown on October 12. Hostesses for September will

be Sandy Altfillisch and Joyce Fjelland.  The remainder of the meeting was spent playing Bingo and visiting with residents. Lunch of ice cream bars and cheese and crackers was served.************************************************************************************The Mission Action group would like to thank everyone who donated items for the Baby Care Kits and the School Bags. Your generosity is appreciated.************************************************************************************

National Youth Convention

Correana Anderson, Chris Hasler and Keith Myrvold would like to thank the Luther League and St. Paul Church for giving us the opportunity to attend the Youth Gathering in Detroit, Michigan. This was Keith’s first time on a plane, and it was very exciting for him. When we landed in Detroit,

there were signs welcoming the ELCA Youth Gathering throughout the city. Wherever we went, there were all kinds of people greeting us and making us feel welcome. 30,000 Lutherans attended this gathering. Out of all the states that attended, South Dakota had the most with 1,100 Lutherans. We met many people from different states and Puerto Rico. Also, we met one young man from Norway. Every night we went to Ford Field for Christian Rock concerts. It was a sight to

see 30,000 Lutherans together all in one place. The music and speakers were awesome, and when it was over no one was shoving or pushing to go back to our buses. Everyone was polite and helpful to each other, and you would never hear anything rude or inappropriate from anyone. Our service project was helping an underprivileged neighborhood by cleaning out an old lot. There were all kinds of different things we found. Correana found an old softball.

I was an eye opener to see the conditions of the neighborhood and made us appreciate what we have at home. We all had a wonderful time, and Keith and Correana are looking forward to the next gathering in 2018.

Thanks Correana, Chris and Keith for the report
