it- in cut pieces of bright yellow and black spots - is the cheetah, twisting and weaving with

a fierce snarl on its delicate pink mouth, trying so desperately to catch its meal. This piece

Missed Last Week's Action?

Here's The Voice Update!Nerds Unite!

The past few weeks have been a geeks' paradise! Back to the Future fans were excited for Wednesday, October 21, 2015: the day Marty Mcfly time-travelled in the cult classic film. Along with a healthy dose of nostalgia, people were disappointed that most of the tech the movie predicted remains to be a mere dream (HOVERBOARDS?). In other exciting geek news, the trailer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out now, and from the looks of it, the movie is going to be pretty intense. Advanced tickets are already on sale.

Drake's Dad Dancing

Drake recently released his highly anticipated music video for Hotline Bling. The thing fans were most hyped about, however, was not his vocals. It

was Drake's strange attempt at dancing, which at best can be called rhythmic shuffling (a bit endearing, in a strange way). It's okay Drake; we Canadians still have your back, no matter how cringe-worthy your moves are.

Zendaya Shuts Down Body Shaming

Zendaya has already dealt with a similar issue about her appearance, when she responded to a racist comment on her natural looks. In her spread in fashion magazine Modeliste, she was shocked to see herself photo shopped, with the most noticeable change being her thinned out thighs. With the maturity she has showed many times before, Zendaya respectfully called the magazine out, along with the unedited version and a statement on loving yourself. There's a happy ending to this story, as the magazine took down the photo shopped pictures.

Tacos and Unicorns

Apple’s iOS9 update is finally here for all devices, and while there's a bunch of new technological updates, the most ground-breaking update is definitely the new EMOJIS. Most notable additions include a taco, a unicorn, a hand flashing the rock on sign and champagne.

Keeping it in the Family

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the elections have just finished; and a historical election at that. First off, our new Prime Minister is Justin Trudeau --famously known for being the son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau-- ending the ten year reign of Conservative leader Steven Harper. Not only that, but he did it with the Liberals winning a majority government (more than half of the seats in the House of Commons). The number of younger voters (19 yrs.-25-yrs.) was also at an all time high, marking yet another milestone. What will the results of this election mean for the future of Canada? We'll just have to wait and see.

That's it for now! Stay tuned for future editions of The Voice Update.

15 School Hacks to Keep You Going! These hacks can change your lifestyle so you can become a healthier and happier person. Besides, sometimes it’s not bad to make life just a little bit easier.

1. Take naps! It may sound childish and “un-cool”, but naps are actually really good for you, since your body needs lots of rest to grow and stay energized and healthy. 2.If you’re stressed out, one of the best ways to calm down is to drink a cup of lemon balm tea. If not, eat, even sniff oranges! It’s weird, but it helps.3. Take a lazy day as often as possible, preferably every week. Treat yourself! This helps you become a happier and healthier person by giving yourself a well-deserved break.

4. As weird as it sounds, when you can’t remember that word you were going to say or write, make a fist with your hands. It helps you remember.

5. Every morning, write a to-do list. It helps you remember every little thing you need to do, but constantly forget during your busy day. 6. When you’re tired or stressed, drink a glass of water. Water always helps with anything. It’s important to stay hydrated! 7. When you’re studying for a test or quiz, studying for 30-50 minutes is best. Make sure to take 10 minute breaks in between too. This method is proven to be really effective.

8. Leave yourself a happy message or quote every morning. This will make you feel like a happier and more confident person for the rest of the day.9. Got permanent marker on your new outfit? Just use hand sanitizer to get the stain right out!

10. Chew gum while you’re studying. When you take the test, chew the same flavour. It really helps you remember all the stuff you studied.11.Write your notes in blue ink. Studies show that blue ink helps you remember things you wrote down! 12. Join clubs! It’ll not only help your high school career, but you’ll make many new

friends and have fun at the same time.13.Always take time out of your day to exercise. As they say, a healthy mind is attached to a healthy body!

14. Organization is key! Buy a timetable, leave notes for yourself, all of these things will keep you organized, which will make your life much easier.

15. Make plenty of friends. High school is all about you and your peers. The more friends you have, the more you feel like you fit in, and friends are who you’re going spend almost all of your time with!

Use all of these tips during the school year and beyond, and I’m sure you’ll be satisfied, and become a resilient, radiant student!!

Book Review – Half WildHalf-Wild, By: Sally Green

There’s nothing like having just turned seventeen, and learning that you will probably kill your father, all while being chased by blood-thirsty witches.

This is the life of Nathan, a half-code witch, and son of one of the most wanted criminals in England. In a country of feuding White witches and Black witches, he is a half-code, the undesirable child of a black and white witch. Having just escaped from imprisonment by his captors, he hopes to finally live a free life, without scorn. Unfortunately for him, he has no idea where his father is, his best friend is probably dead, and his lover is in a deadly magic-induced coma.

This sequel to Half-Bad is definitely just as good as its predecessor! Overall, it's a good combination of wit and action, just like our protagonist Nathan. Nathan is definitely the best part of the entire novel. One of the interesting concepts of this book is Nathan's struggles with his identity. White witches scorn him for being half black, and vice versa. He's confused by society's portrayal of Black witches as malicious beings who'd prey on White witches, and wonders if his Black witch side will turn him into a murderer like his father. But as his character develops, and he develops new bonds with other witches and fains; he realizes that good and bad isn't so black and white. I think this idea of feeling accepted by either side of your heritage, and the struggle to figure out who or even what you are is an interesting concept to play with, especially since it forms a bit of a parallel with the struggles of biracial people in the real world.

Life is Nothing.Nothing, rather Medals and Gatherings.gatherings of Pride and ValourValour -- Nothing is Life.

Love, pride, discipline, discipline so cleanClean like the Dove;Discipline, Pride, love.

Heart mine stings, stings from dishonour and pings, pings so obstruct;Stings my Heart.

The only flaw with this book, in my opinion, is Annalise. Despite the fact that she is Nathan's love interest, the two just don't fit together. It's not even the fact that she is a pure White witch; I think that that actually adds some more depth to Nathan's identity struggle. I even think that the author might be purposefully making sure that they don't mesh well; perhaps she won't be ending up his true love (which would be the best scenario, personally). The issue is that she was not developed well as a character. Regardless of whether she and Nathan will stick together, she was too two-dimensional for my taste, especially surrounded by the vibrant cast of all the characters. It seemed she was a mere plot device for Nathan to wistfully dream about! I just wish the author delved into her story more, whether it showed her in a positive light or not. It felt like a big wasted opportunity.

As a whole, I give this book a 4/5. Sally Green expertly creates a beautiful world, with equally interesting characters, for the most part (cough, cough, Annalise). If you enjoy this book, be sure to stay tuned for the final instalment, Half-Lost.

Free Money for Everyone!Coming into high school, nearly everyone has no idea what they would like to do or be, and many still

don't know even after four years--which is very much okay. High school gives you the opportunity to figure out what you enjoy and what you're good at by exploring the many subjects there are. Volunteering, Co-Op and even getting a part-time job can help you in figuring out what you would like to do career-wise. The choices are endless.

There are a small number of us that know from the start what they would like to do, or at least have an idea. I, for instance, fall into this category. I knew from a young age I would like to do something with reading or writing and social justice. Knowing my interests helped me in deciding a career choice and I encourage everyone to find their interests and pursue them, whether you are in grade 9 or 12. It is never too late--or too early--to find your passion.  Nonetheless, what makes these two groups of people comparable is the fact that we all need money. Whether it be money to go to university or college, enroll in an apprenticeship program, or taking a gap year, we all need money.

As a hopeful graduate of 2016, this is a big concern for me and many of my fellow graduates. Getting into my preferred post-secondary institution is a concern as well, but not as much of a concern as getting into my dream school and then not being able to afford it. There is OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program), but it is still a loan you have to pay back and after four years or more of post-secondary schooling, that can add up to a lot of debt to pay back.

Well, there’s good news! There is another way to get money for schooling, and here's the best part - you don't need to pay it back! There are scholarships and bursaries that students who are as young as 16 years old and enrolled in high school are applicable to get and don't need to be paid back at all. Many of you may be thinking that you need to be very smart to get a scholarship. But, there are so many different scholarships that many do not require an average. Many are competitions or draws based on the completion of challenges or personal essays and writings about your need for the scholarship. Some do focus on your academic record, but many have more emphasis on extracurricular activities and volunteering experiences.

There are many websites that focus on finding scholarships based off your interests, academic record and extracurricular activities.

To get started, go to these websites:    www.yconic.com

www.scholarshipscanada.com

www.studentlifenetwork.com

It’s never too early or late to start looking at scholarships, so I encourage all grades to take a look at least one or two scholarships. Also, many workplaces offer scholarships. So, ask at work if you have a part-time job or ask your parents to find out in their workplace if they offer scholarships. Another great place to look is our school's Guidance Office, where many scholarships are posted and even offer some to graduating students of Harold M. Braithwaite. For more information please check out the websites listed above or see a guidance counsellor for more help. Good luck digging!

By: Hooria Katal Healthy Lifestyle Tips

There are many tasks which we fulfill each day, though through all of this, we forget to respect our bodies. If you wish to follow a healthy lifestyle, then you MUST read this list.1) Daily Activity: Exercise for at least an hour each day, as this will freshen you up and de-stress your nerves.2) Eat in Good Health: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle means maintaining a healthy diet. Make sure you consume at least three meals each day and stay hydrated. Most importantly, do not skip breakfast as breakfast is the booster which aides in waking up your brain from its lovely slumber. In addition to this, you must be cautious of what you consume and in what quantity you consume it as this affects your body, mind, and attitude.3) Obtain an Efficient Amount of Sleep: An ideal teenager requires 7- 8

hours of sleep per night in order to obtain a vibrant and glorious day. This will result in lots of activity and development of healthy relationships as you will be more alert and cautious of your actions. 4) NEVER PROCRASTINATE: Procrastination is the worst habit to develop as it weakens time management skills, though it is applied frequently in high school due to the quantity of homework assignments and the amount

of time invested in each activity. If you use your time wisely, you will attain higher marks as this demonstrates a deep consideration to your work. Some tips to developing time management skills include: working/studying each day as your brain will become familiar with the information and will be pumped up for the day of evaluation. Also, utilize the calendar to plan out the important events taking place in a specific period of time.

5) Make Friends: Developing new relationships amongst your peers will benefit you, as you will seek more knowledge concerning various topics. This will also boost your self-esteem as you will feel accepted in society and you will more likely take social risks like joining extra-curricular activities. 6) Avoid Unhealthy S nacks: Eating right makes you think right. Always consume a variety of foods from the four main food groups as this will help your brain function properly, improve decision making and will prevent silly errors on math tests. 7) Pass Along the Benefits of a Healthy Lifestyle: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will not only benefit you, but will also change the lifestyle of your peers as they will take positive energy and inspiration from you and in turn make wiser decisions about their own lifestyle.8) Have a positive attitude: No matter what happens in life, you shall always think positively, as "There is a rainbow of hope at the end of every storm" - Benjamin Gabriel Juarez.
