    Outline

    You will compile and complete a research document which outlines the preproductionelements of your pending 1 minute short film. This assignment introduces you toindustry development and preproduction processes that happen before any productionstage and directly flows on and contributes to successfully completing Assignment 2.

    You will write a screenplay, character treatment, then produce a budget, productionschedule and affiliated documentation needed to start your short film production. In thistask you can use the software CELTX which will automatically generate many of thebelow listed documents if used correctly so dont panic! Items include: Charactertreatment, Screenplay, Storyboards, Production Schedule (One Month), ProductionSchedule (One Week), One Line Schedule, Shooting Schedule, Scene Summary, CallSheets (one sheet for every day filming), Movement Order (one sheet for every dayfilming), Budget, Crew Sheet, Actors Sheet, and Public Liability Certificate of Currency(Use the RMIT version provided in class)

    Assessment Criteria

    Your completed research document demonstrates: creativity and strength of narrativeand story telling ability, realistic and practical deadlines, nominated production dates,accurate budgets, well planned schedules, and cohesive preproduction documentation.

    Overview of Assessment

    You will receive one of the following grades in assessment.

    Fail (NN) 0-49% Pass (PA) 50-59%

    Credit (CR) 60-69%

    Distinction (DI) 70-79%

    High Distinction (HD) 80-100%

    Late Submission

    Late submission will incur a 5% reduction of total marks per business day includingpublic holidays and semester breaks unless you have special consideration granted.

    Special Consideration

    If you experience hardship, unforseen circumstances, or extended illness you can applyfor special consideration.     Attendance and Information Intake

    You are required to attend all the scheduled lectures and take notes on the presentationin class, read and refer to the class reader and lecture notes where applicable, andwatch and take notes about any movie screenings or AV displays where appropriate. Inaddition to this you are strongly advised to engage with the recommended reading listfor additional information where appropriate. A combination of this will formulate the

    answers to the assignment questions.

    Lecture Format

    Each class will combine watching videos, practical demonstrations, note taking,discussions, activities and tasks.

    If you are in dispute about your assignment result you can ask for the assignment to beresubmitted to an external examiner for review. This process requires you to formallylodge an email or typed letter to me as the Video 1 course coordinator and request for a

    resubmission. The process may take several weeks and there is no guarantee that youramended grade will be higher.

    Each assignment will receive a feedback sheet outlining a breakdown of assessmentand written comments. Please be patient in receiving this document within semester

    weeks.

    Plagiarism and breach of copyright in video production means to copy someone elseswork without providing a citation or screen credit of the original source. To avoid thissituation, please provide all citations of text, sound, moving and still image which arenot your own.     Production values

    You will gain better marks if you produce this assignment with a clear attention to:spelling, punctuation and formatting, all fields in the required documents are complete,all documents requested are present, works are printed clearly and without marks orsmudges, attempted humour in answers is not present (leave humour for the script notthe production documents), and that you have used the software correctly by formattingto industry standards. I will fail your work outright if any of these requirements and thosestated in class are not met.
