Student submitted video assignment in Canvas

The following tutorial walks through the process for instructors to create an assignment in the Canvas LMS, so students

can submit a video via TechSmith Relay.

Steps 1 and 2: The instructor will create a new assignment.

Steps 3 – 7: The instructor will name the assignment; add a description in the Rich Text Editor; assign a point value;

select the Submission Type > Online > Text Entry; and then Save or Save & Publish.

Steps 8 – 9: The instructor will verify that the assignment is either Published or just Saved, and that the point value and

submission type is correct.

Steps 10 – 11: The student will locate and open the assignment within their Canvas course.

Step 12: The student will click the “Submit Assignment” button.

Step 13: The student will locate and click the TechSmith Relay icon in the Rich Text Editor. See Note on next page.

Note from Step 13:

Steps 14 – 15: The student will see their TechSmith Relay Library open. If they’ve already created their video, they can

navigate to find it and select the “Add Media” button. If they still need to create their video for this assignment, they can

click the “Launch Recorder” button to open the Relay Recorder. Once the video is created, they will see it here in their

Library and can click the “Add Media” button.

Step 16: The video will appear in the Rich Text Editor, and the student can click “Submit Assignment” to complete the

process. Note: The embedded video may appear too large in the Rich Text Editor prior to clicking the “Submit

Assignment” button. Once the assignment is submitted, the embedded video will resize to fit within the dimensions of the

Rich Text Editor and the quality of the video will not be diminished.

Step 17: The instructor can now view the video within the Canvas SpeedGrader and add comments and a final grade for

the student video project.
