RiverlandPartnershipsForLearning A partnership  is made up of the four Riverland DECD High Schools, to provide  a wide 

range of Voca onal Educa on and Training (VET) courses to Year 11 and 12 students en-rolled in the Riverland High Schools.   

 

These career related courses will increase pathway op ons for students through collabo-ra on with chosen Registered Training organiza ons. The student is supported by their School while undertaking competency based curriculum and learning from the Training provider. This allows students to achieve SACE credits for their learning, along with path-ways which lead students to further educa on, training and/or employment. Comple on of  par cular courses will contribute to  an ATAR/University entry. 

Students stay enrolled at their Home School, and a end the Host School or RTO for their VET course. All enquiry must go through the students  Home School VET  Leader. 

Most of the VET op ons require a endance one day a week (Thursday) at the host loca-on for the whole School year. Some of the courses can lead to a second year pathway if 

they wish. Courses are delivered  at a variety of loca ons throughout the Riverland and  bus transport is  provided. 

These courses do have fees. There is a range of School and State Government Funding arrangements that  we source to subsidise student training fees. Many of the courses are  currently subsidised under the “Work Ready” Training Guarantee for SACE Students (TGSS).  Courses that are not funded will be subsidised by the school by up to $500. 

The schools VET  leader/coordinator will provide students with the documenta on that needs to be signed by parents, along with informa on regarding any VET fees. If special clothing, equipment or materials are required you can be asked to fund these.  

Students may need to complete work placement as part of their Qualifica on. 

Course’s are regional and can be compe ve. There may be more students than there are places. Selec on process can include; a ending the “Come and Try Day interview or work placement.

WhatisVET?Voca onal Educa on and Training (VET) gives students skills and knowledge for work and 

further educa on.  VET operates through a na onal training system, and is delivered, as-

sessed and cer fied by Registered Training Organisa ons (RTOs).  The training is from an 

endorsed Na onal Training Package and may occur at a school, TAFE SA or a private Regis-

tered Training Organisa on ( RTO) facility.  Some of the courses will include Structured 

Workplace Learning placement in industry.

WhatisthedifferencebetweenStructuredWork-placeLearning(SWL)and WorkExperience?Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) enables students to gain specific skills on-the-job. The 

skills  reflect na onally-recognized, industry defined competency standards. A student’s 

par cipa on in SWL may be a requirement of some qualifica ons.

Work Experience offers students a general taste of the world of work. Students observe 

different  aspects of the work carried out and assist with tasks nominated by their supervi-

sor or employer. Students are able to develop a be er understanding of generic employa-

bility skills valued  in the workplace. 

WhatareSchool-BasedApprenticeships?Australian School-Based Appren ceships and Traineeships allow you to  train and do paid 

work  in an industry area while you are s ll at school studying for your SACE. Appren ce-

ships generally transi on into full  me Appren ceships post School. For more in-

forma on on ASBAs speak with your VET Coordinator. An ASBA is heavily dependant on a 

student having an employer who is seeking to take them on as an appren ce.

This course will provide you with the prac cal skills and knowledge to carry out tech-nical support func ons in me-chanical engineering, design, manufacturing opera ons and maintenance. You will learn skills in computer aided dra ing, compu ng, materials tes ng, mechanical and steelwork design. You will also learn about safety in the workplace, quality controls, maths and science.   

Par cipants who successfully complete this qualifica on have the op on of a future path-ways into the following: Cer ficate IV in Engineering, Diploma in Engineering – Technical, Advanced Diploma on Engineering, and other Engineering qualifica ons.

AnimalStudiesCertificate III ACM30110 The course provides students with an entry  level qualifica on  to the Animal Care  Industry. 

The course content  is a mixture of theory and prac cal applica on  including; preparing  for 

work in the animal industry, basic animal behaviour, basic animal health and nutri on, occu-

pa onal health and safety in the animal industry and workplace communica on. 

Prac cal ac vi es include observing animal behaviour, grooming, animal handling clean-

ing and  feeding.  Employment opportuni es include working in veterinary clinics, pet shops, 

boarding kennels, animal welfare organisa ons, biomedical research and produc on facili-

es, horse stables and wildlife parks.

AutomotivePathwaysAUR20512

 This  course  is  designed  to  improve  stu-dent’s chances of becoming an Appren ce and  becoming  a  fully  qualified  tradesper-son  through  an  Employer.  Graduates  are highly  compe ve  applicants  for  appren-ceships  in  automo ve  mechanical  light 

vehicle,  diesel,  auto  electrical,  outdoor power equipment and motor cycle trades. This qualifica on is suitable for an Australi-an Appren ceship pathway.  

Pathways - Automotive Servicing Technician / Diesel Mechanic / Panel Beater / Spray Painter /

Parts InterpreterBusiness Cer ficate III in Business (BSB30115)  This qualifica on covers a range of business and 

organisa onal tasks including customer service, 

how to communicate effec vely, skills in pro-

cessing, maintaining and managing workplace in-

forma on. This qualifica on provides skills that 

support the effec ve func oning of a business in 

any industry including government or private busi-

ness. 

Cer ficate III in Micro Business Opera ons (BSB30315)  This is a comprehensive course designed to give poten al small business operators 

the skills required to measure business viability. It covers a range of opera onal prac-

ces necessary to research a small business environment. Training in this area will 

equip graduates to research the viability of their business idea. This course is designed 

for people intending to open their own small business in the near future.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

Early Childhood Education andCare

CHC30113This course will give you a taste of the Child Care 

Industry and develop a range of skills that will assist you in both the workplace and to relate to 

children in everyday life.  You will work on a range or ac vi es which focus on communica on 

with children, behavior, guidance, occupa onal health and safety, preparing nutri ous foods, 

basic administra on and an introduc on to the importance of play.  

As part of the Early Childhood Educa on and Care course students will be required to put their 

theore cal skills  into prac ce  in a workplace  through structured work placement  in order  to 

demonstrate competency. Students will require a DCSI child related employment screening in 

order to complete work placement. 

 

Pathways: Child Care Worker, Early Childhood Educator, Primary School Teacher, Out of School

Services Worker, Child Care Director, Nanny, Special Educa on Teacher.

IndividualSupport/AgedCare–PathwaysintoNursingCHC33015This course is delivered in partnership with local country hospitals and Aged Care facili es.  

Students are able to complete a full Cer ficate 3 in Aged Care. This course includes formal 

study and Structured Work Placement in a health unit. These qualifica ons offer a pathway to 

employment as a Direct Care Worker in Residen al or Community Aged. It also offers a path-

way to further study in many areas including Disability Services, Leisure and Health, Enrolled 

and Registered Nursing. 

Pathways: Aged Care Worker | Personal Care Worker | Disability Care Worker / Enrolled and

Registered Nursing, Midwife.

DoorwaystoConstructionCertificate II CPC20112Doorways  to Construc on  is a  full year Cer ficate  II    in Construc on Pathways.  It  is highly prac cal and is designed for students wishing to explore a career or gain an Appren ceship  in the building and construc on industry.  

The focus is on providing hands on prac cal experience in the trade areas of carpentry, con-cre ng,  ling, pain ng and decora ng, joinery, plastering, gyp rocking, bricklaying and demo-li on. Students complete compulsory and elec ve units of competency  from  the Construc-on Training package that will count towards an appren ceship.  

This qualifica on is suitable for an Australian Appren ceship pathway. 

Students will complete their Na onal White Card training which is the regulatory authority requirement before entry to a work site is permi ed.

Pathways - / Carpenter / Bricklayer / Tiler / Solid Plasterer / General Builder / building contractor

DoorwaystoConstructionPlus(Carpentry)Certificate III CPC30211 ThiscanbeselectedaftersuccessfulcompletionofDoorwaystoConstruction.

Students who complete the Doorways to Construc on  course and who wish to further their 

construc on skills can apply for the Doorways to Construc on Plus Program.  Cer ficate III in 

Carpentry is offered, students will focus on first and second fix carpentry.  

This qualifica on is suitable for an Australian Appren-

ceship pathway.

ElectrotechnologyCertificate II UEE21911 Electro-technology is for students wan ng to begin a path-

way or gain an Appren ceship in the electrical or electron-

ics industries. The course provides opportuni es for stu-

dents to understand electrical and electronic trade termi-

nology, to iden fy and use a range of components, accesso-

ries, materials, tools and equipment and to carry out elec-

tronics and electrical work.  

Students are involved in theory and prac cal work and complete a variety of electrical and 

electronics projects. The completed Cer ficate Course runs over 3 semesters. 

This qualifica on is suitable for an Australian Appren ceship pathway.

Engineering and have the opportunity to receive status for them if they transi on into an 

Appren ceship. This course may also suit students considering a pathway in automo ve and 

agriculture. 

This qualifica on is suitable for an Australian 

Appren ceship pathway. Pathways - Engineer-

FitnessCertificate III SIS30310 This  course  covers anatomy and physiology, fitness 

programming and  client  service, fitness  tes ng and 

personal  training and  the use of fitness equipment. 

Students may also develop an understanding of the 

Allied Health  industry  through exploring exercise  rehabilita on  for  clients with  specific  re-

quirements.  

Graduates would be able  to seek work  in  leisure centres and health and fitness centres as 

personal trainers and fitness  instructors, as well as specialised Personal Trainers. For those 

wishing for further study pathways, studies at Cer ficate IV provide a direct pathway into the 

Diploma of Fitness – Specialist Trainer. There may also be opportuni es for those who have 

completed the Diploma of Fitness to pathway into related higher educa on University quali-

fica ons  (eg. Bachelor of Human Movement, Exercise Physiology or Bachelor of Health Sci-

ences etc.)

The full qualifica on can be gained over two years, however, students

the hospitality industry and  is suited to students who would like to become Front of House 

Waiters.  The full Cert. 3 qualifica on can be gained over 12 months. However, students can

weeds,  pests  and  diseases,  basic  soil  proper es;  tending  nursery  plants; machinery  and 

equipment opera on and machinery maintenance.  

 

Qualifica ons in hor culture cover the necessary knowledge and skills required for employ-

ment in this diverse industry. Sectors include hor culture, landscaping, wholesale and retail 

nursery, parks, gardens and turf.

Informa on Technology Certificate III ICT30115

There are many op ons for students to study  in Cer ficate  III  in  Informa on, Digital Media 

and Technology. The course is structured to allow students a variety of op ons that may pro-

vide different pathways for different students. Some may be seeking employment while oth-

ers may wish to study a higher qualifica on. Students can explore pathways in Web and Digi-

tal Media streams, Networking, Programming and General Applica on streams.  

Pathways: Computer Programmer, System Administrator, Games Developer, Support techni-

cian, So ware and Applica on Programmer.

Students will have the opportunity to gain a knowledge of the crea ve arts industry and to 

develop skills in Digital Media such as Digital Photography and Image Manipula on to create 

content for a range of digital media and online delivery pla orms. It explores cri cal and 

crea ve thinking skills, 2D design skills, image manipula on, the crea on of vector based 

artwork, digital anima on and web authoring.
