The Traineeship- A year long program based in Rotterdam

introducing you to the world of dredging

and Van Oord as a business

First four weeks are training

First period working abroad

Placements with TD and survey

Second period working abroad

Placements with E & E

Throughout the year are other courses and two setsof exams

The Traineeship (2)The first four weeks consists of training on:

• Van Oord

• Communication

• First Aid

• Sea Survival

• Fire fighting

• Team Building

• Cultural Awareness

• Dredging Equipment

• Health and Safety

• Site Visits

Site Visits – Maasvlakte 2Port of Rotterdam Extension – Increasingthe capacity of the Port by landReclamation

The site has 2.5km of ‘hard’ sea defencesand 5km of ‘soft’ defences

Project is maintenance dredging using a TSHD

Project also involves mineral extraction

First Placement Abroad – Dubai- I worked in the Jebel Ali Dubai Office

- I was working 12 hours a day, six days a week…but four

weeks holiday afterwards

- I was working on a land reclamation project

First Placement Abroad – Dubai- My role was to analyse site data

- I was examining data concerning the settlement of the

reclaimed land

- I analysed several data sets creating a TNO that was

submitted to the client to show we had met the contractual

requirements

Working in OWP- Working in the Gorinchem Office, Holland

- These are huge projects in every way

- I am working on several new wind parks

- Also working on Teeside with Jessica (Southampton

Graduate)

- Many different requirements and issues involved in these

projects

- I have worked on the monopiles and cabling requirements for

the wind parks so far….

My Experience so far

- Hard work but..a lot of fun

- I have Learnt A HUGE AMOUNT

- A great experience and still a lot to do and learn

- I have met lots of different people

- Its not just about dredging!!

- A great chance to travel

- I have worked on several different projects already

- You get lot of responsibility

- Lots of opportunities for further development

- Living in Rotterdam and abroad on projects is a lot of fun and in itself

presents many opportunities and new experiences

- The world is your Oyster

If you are interested APPLY!!

The ideal person should be

- Enthusiastic about the coast and engineering

- Hard working

- Willing to travel

- A good communicator

- The ability to get on with lots of different people

- Flexible and adaptable no two weeks are ever the same

- For example Dubai one week, Rotterdam the following week,

this week Newbury
