Tom Phillips, 55, of Hominyworked for the OklahomaDepartment of Corrections forover 22 years. “I weigh over 300 pounds, and when I retired,I had over 22 years on my feet.My knee was worn out because Iwas heavy and because I wasstanding and walking on concrete for so long,” he says. “I had very little cartilage left inmy right knee, and I was in painevery time I tried to walk.”

Tom paid several visits to anorthopedist. His visits thereincluded X-rays and an MRI,and he had two injections in hisright knee, he says. “The firstinjection reduced the pain forabout two months, but the second shot did not help at all.”

Tom then visited Dr.Ronald LaButti. “I told him Iwas ready for surgery,” Mikesaid. “I had the surgery onAugust 11, 2011, and after twodays in the hospital, I was senthome. Dr. LaButti’s officearranged for home health to visitand determine my needs. Anurse visited and helped me setup my physical therapy, and thephysical therapist visited myhome three days a week forabout five weeks.”

The surgery and the rehabilitation program were successful, Tom says. “Mywound healed very quickly, andwithin a couple of weeks, thestrength in my right leg began toreturn. I’ve had no problemssince the surgery; I recently hadmy one-year check-up with Dr. LaButti, and everything islooking good.”

Now rid of debilitating kneepain, Tom is free to pursue hisinterests in his retirement. “I recently purchased a newHarley-Davidson motorcycle, andI plan on seeing some new placesin the next few years,” he says.“And I would highly recommendDr. LaButti to anyone with aknee problem.”

This brand-new technology produces a3-D image of the knee which allows for superior surgical accuracy and alignment. When compared to more traditional forms of navigation, theiBlock cutting guide provides a significant advantage not only for the surgeon, but for the patient as well.

When a joint is replaced, even a miniscule misalignment between theimplant and the bones can harm joint performance and longevity. This innovative technique allows for precisemeasurements made dynamically inreal time.

There are only five “iBlock” units in theUnited States, and this technology is available in Tulsa only with Dr. LaButti.

DDealership RenovatedInside and Out

By Duane Blankenship

Marc Miller Buick GMC hasrecently undergone a total renovation, inside and out.“We’ve always maintained aclean operation,” said ServiceManager Gregg Walton, “andwith the new face uplift, spiritsare soaring.” Marc Miller BuickGMC has always utilized state-of-

features and benefits of BuickGMC automobiles.

Gregg and Gary each have40 years of experience with MarcMiller Buick GMC. They bothbegan working for the dealershipwhen the company was ownedby Marc’s father, Ernie Miller.Gary says, “Ernie was born with

the-art service equipment, andthe new look of the dealershipgenuinely complements Buick’sluxury car theme. When meetingwith Walton and ServiceDirector/Master TechnicianGary Howell, you can’t help butfeel their enthusiasm as they talkabout the new facility, plus

a great work and service ethic, and to this day I frequently findmyself saying, ‘What wouldErnie do?’ Marc inherited thatsame work ethic, and he’s literally performed every job atevery level within the company.”If you ask around, you’ll findthat most Marc Miller employeeshave worked there a long time. The company has high standardsand requires frequent GM training for all of their ASE certified technicians.

“Conventional engineswaste a lot of fuel when the vehicle is stopped and idling, likeat a red light,” said Gary. TheBuick LaCrosse, with eAssisttechnology, solves the problemby switching the engine into autostop. It stops the engine’s idlingand goes from gas to electricpower. “As soon as your foot liftsoff the brake pedal, eAssistseamlessly switches back to gasoline engine power,” he stated. eAssist integrates a powerful but compact electricmotor, an advanced lithium-ionbattery, and the vehicle’s alreadyefficient direct-injectedECOTEC engine. As you coastor brake the vehicle, eAssist captures and stores energy in thelithium-ion battery. “Unlikehybrids, Buick’s system nevergoes on full battery power,” saidGregg. The Buick LaCrosse isadvertised as the most fuel-efficient sedan in its class.

If shopping for an SUV,crossover, or truck, Marc MillerBuick GMC has a nice arsenalthat will quickly put a permanentgrin on your face. The GM LSfamily of V8’s are of deep skirtblock construction, higher

nickel-content cast iron, externaloil pump, the crank main journals and connecting rods. “It is an extremely rugged anddurable engine,” said Gary, “andsome of the highly desirabledesign characteristics of the GM LS family are found in otherGM-designed engines used invehicles ranging from sportcoupes to full size trucks.”

“Buick GMC is buildingsome of the highest quality vehicles on the road today,” saidGregg. “Our service departmentstresses the importance of owners staying on schedule withmanufacturer-recommendedmaintenance intervals. And it iscritical that you burn only top-tier fuel in your Buick GMCvehicle. Time and time again,we’ve seen low quality gasolinecausing deposits in the engineand sometimes even ‘manufac-turing’ oil that bypasses the ringsand settles in the crankcase – nota good thing.”

Marc Miller Buick GMC islocated on South Memorial at47th Street. They have the look, the products, the people, and thecommitment. And they want tobe your exclusive new and usedautomotive and service source.Stop in today to say hello andsee the newly renovated facility.

Marc Miller Buick GMC employees are eagerly serving area residents at therecently renovated dealership in South Tulsa.

“As soon as people start to loseweight, their bodies start to functionproperly: their blood pressure regulates, their cholesterol goes down, and sometimes they are even able to get off medications for depression and other ail-ments,” she explains. “The body is goingback to where it is supposed to be, and at

a healthy weight that body is likely to lastlonger.”

Malissa encourages everyone to visitthe Center for Disease Control’s website(www.CDC.org) and review this informa-tion for themselves. “We need to wakeup,” she says. “The great thing is though, this is something we can do somethingabout.”

Malissa believes that bad habits arewhat created the obesity epidemic in thefirst place, an epidemic which spreadsacross the socioeconomic spectrum inour society and knows no cultural barriers. She points to several reasons forthe problem, but most can be tracedback to modern society’s dependence on

immediate gratification, which has produced a more sedentary lifestyle, alove for fast food, and a fascination withtechnology. BA Med Spa’s weight lossprotocol concentrates not only on HCG,which has proved to be a wonderful andhelpful aid in the process, but also onreplacing bad habits with good ones, likeengaging in regular exercise, consuminga healthy diet including fresh fruits andvegetables, and drinking lots of water.Malissa reports that as habits change, major transformations in health start tooccur. She adds that a person’s dietaccounts for 80 percent of weight loss, while exercise accounts for only 20 percent; therefore a healthy diet is critical for weight loss success.

By Sheryl Sowell

Andy B’s Family EntertainmentCenter truly lives up to its name.Bowling, a 4000-square-foot videoarcade area, and a go-kart trackprovide fun and excitement forevery age. Now even more thrillscan be found at Andy B’s withtheir brand-new laser tag arena!

According to Saul Scribner, game room manager, Andy B’slaser tag has been a huge hit sinceit opened in September. “Thefirst day we had a group of 30come in as soon as we opened! We’re so excited to offer laser tagat Andy B’s as it gives our guestsan additional opportunity to haveeven more fun.” Andy B’s movedthe pro shop and removed a fewbowling lanes to open the spacefor renovation. “They did anamazing job in designing it – it’sa really great use of the space,”says Saul.

Laser tag players must be atleast seven years old and 42 inches in height. Two games areavailable: solo, in which everyplayer is against each other, andteam play. Players are suited upwith vests and carry around theirattached “phasers,” used to “tag”or “deactivate” other players anddestroy the other team’s base.Black lights, fog and intense tech-no music create an environment

minute game. Approximately 15people can play at a time. Thegames are first come, first served.Laser tag hours are Thursdayfrom 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fridayfrom 4 p.m. to close, and

similar to an industrial, sci-fithemed video game. Kids andadults alike will have a blastducking, hiding, running anddeactivating their opponents.

Laser tag is $6 for an eight

Saturday and Sunday from noonto close. You can also make reser-vations for a private laser tag par-ty for birthdays, corporate teambuilding and other group events.A laser tag group packageincludes two laser tag games, twopizzas, two pitchers of soda, useof the party room for two hours, and game cards for the arcade.

The go-kart track is not yourtypical oval track. “The track hastwists and turns, and is muchmore engaging than a lot of other go-kart tracks,” says Saul. Two sizes of go-karts are avail-able: a larger one for ages 10 andup who are at least 54 inches tall, and a smaller one that doesn’t goas fast for ages 5 to 9 who are atleast 40 inches tall. “Double-seaters are also available, for aparent and child to ride together,” adds Saul.
