Lore of the LorelandsWhen the gods created the Elven Court, the boughs of Arcorar (the Great King Forest)crossed the Dragon Reach to the east and surrounded the three mountain ranges and LakeMiir(its human name) to the west, forming one massive timberland from the Gods Theaterto the eastern end of the Dragon Sea interrupted only by the barren, ogre-rife Stonelands. At that time, Arcorar contained five major elven domains. Uvaeren, one of the latersettlements created during the Founding Times, lay southwest of Jhyrennstar lands. It grewfrom the efforts of one gold elf clan and two moon elf clans. Formerly of Aryvandaar, theseclans (along with four other gold clans and two moon clans) originally fled that conflictedrealm during the Third Crown War. All nine clans were political enemies of the ruling

Vashaan clan, and they sought to create a better, more peaceful, elven civilization forthemselves than any that existed up until that time.

They originally settled farther north, along the western shores of a mountainnestled lake(the future Lake Miir), and they called the land Ilodhar. Centuries of constant harassment byorcs and ogres and goblins split the clans and sundered their plans for a peaceful realm.Three gold clans elected to stay and fight for their lands, while the other six abandoned thissite in -8210 DR in hopes of finding another realm they could settle more peacefully. Threeclans headed farther north, where they met the elves of Rystall Woods and established thenorthernmost settlement of that realm: Yrlaancel, the city of peace. The remaining three

clans eventually settled in the west-central forest and founded Uvaeren, a civilizationdedicated to knowledge both magical and mundane. Led by the Rivleam clan, Uvaeren becameknown as the Lorelands to the People.

Over the course of the next millennia, Arcorars many domains flourished despite repeatedorc and goblin attacks from the north and west. Jhyrennstars magic made Arcorars treesequally the most massive and the most resplendent of all their like on Faern. The green elfdruids and rangers of this realm were as one with the greensward, and they made alliancesfor the elves with the centaurs, satyrs, treants, and other local sylvans. Uvaerens knowledgeand lore continued to prove a boon to the Elven Court and the other realms. Elven

lorekeepers from this realm were the most cryptic and secretive, and invented hundreds ofways to both record the annals of elvenkind and hide that information from any nonworthyeyes. Many believe that the Uvaeranni enchanters created the first telkiira ofFaern.

During this time, Elven Court became the first of these elven realms to make contact withthe dwarves (Sarphil) through the agents in the eastern forests across the Dragon Reach. The Elven Court sought to keep the forests east of the Reach under its control, and foughtthe dwarves to prevent their expansion to the surface lands. After a time, Sarphils dwarvesand the Elven Court struck an alliance, and both their realms profited greatly from trade

    and exchange of information.

Tragedy invaded the glades of Arcorar in the Twelve Nights of Fire, five millennia after thearrival of the first elf of Elven Court. A star fell from the heavens, tearing across the skyand crashing upon the center of Uvaeren.s settlements and librariums. The falling starbrought with it a widespread meteor shower, all of which set the trees of western Arcoraraflame for twelve days. The fires decimated the western forest, splitting Rystall Wood fromArcorar and clearing a wide gash into the main forest along the direction of the meteor.Between the impact crater and the fires, the Lorelands of Uvaeren were destroyed beyondrepair. About one-quarter of its people survived and later migrated either to Jhyrennstar orSemberholme. Steven E Schend Cormanthyr.

8210 DRThe non-gold elf clans of Ilodhar abandon

that realm due to constant harassment by

orcs and ogres. Several clans travel north

to Rystall Wood, while others travel east

to western Arcorar. High Mage Lord

Erthalas leads three clans south, across

The Saddle and deep into the primeval

wilderness of Arcorar. After 10 years of

nomadic wandering, the scouts of the clan

are lead to a small bird filled lake, The

Moonlight Mere where Lord Erthalas is

met by an avatar of Sehanine and

instructed to settle down and build a new

    city of knowledge and peace.

-8200 DRFounding of Uvaeren begins with the

raising of the Rainbow Palace by the High

Magi and Sehanine herself. The ladys

    appearance amongst the people becomes

a tale of whispered legend when she

    personally crowns Lord Erthalas as

Uvaerens first Coronal. The population ofIlodhar continues to grow as migrants

pour in from the west. Several clan elders

petition the Coronal to allow them to

establish a second library city far away

from the increasing threat of orcs. After

months of debate within the council hall,

Lady Athalasstra of Ilohdar signs thecharter leading to the official Founding of

Uvaeren. Uvaeren is founded by one Sun

and Two Moon Elf clans, they establish

the land as a civilization dedicated to

    knowledge both magical and mundane.

    Uvaeren becomes known as the

Lorelands. Close ties continue to be

maintained between the two cities as any

lore gem created in either city is copied

and sent to the library caverns of its sisterrealm.

-8105 DRLady Athalasstra and many of her knights

fall before yet another orc horde as it

sweeps through The Saddle and threatens

to engulf the new colony realms of

enough for the three realms combined

high magi to annihilate the 300000 strong

horde. From the survivors, the Araegisses

    of Jhyrennstar, The Spellblade, Gildoraen

Irithyl becomes the next Coronal of

    Ilodhar.

-7900 DRLord Erthalas and his wife are blessed by

the arrival of their twelfth child, a son

they name Valaer. Within a few short

    decades, this precocious prodigy has

become a mage of tremendous skill and

    power. In his 90th

    year he sporadically

casts a high magic ritual of solitude

    without any apparent training. A

    previously unknown birthmark appears

upon his forehead glowing with piercing

    silver light.

-7863 DRCoronal Gildoraen orders the Grand

    Library Caverns sealed and begins

discussing the possibilities left open to an

    increasingly isolationist council of elders.

The option to abandon the city is

    discussed openly amongst the common

folk and by several families of Moon and

Green Elves but out-rightly rejected by the

more stiff necked Gold Elf clans. Several

Lore Masters and High Mage circles begin

shifting their base of operations and

considerable troves of lore and magic to

the more secure libraries and vaults of

    Braceldaur.

    7790 DR

The King Killer Star appears and the many

dragons of the region gather in several

flights rampaging about the lands near

Sea of Dragons. Lord Teaenath and a

contingent of griffon riding Moon Knights

and High Magi slay 14 dragons across the

Moon Vale as they attack communities all

across the northern forests. Other parties

of slayers from Ilodhar, Uvaeren, Rystalaar

and Jhyrennstar meet with similar success

using Aryvandaaran Dragon Orbs to lure

many of the lesser wyrms to their deaths.

Such is the slaughter that the dragon

    population takes millennia to recover.

-7700 DRStart of the Second Rysar of Uvaeren

begins when the aged Lord Erthalas is

killed whilst attempiting to cast his 5th

high magic ritual within the same month

trying to push the boundaries of magical

    research. Against all established protocols

the Council of Lore Lords elects Sehanines

Chosen One, Prince Valaer Rivleam as the

    next Coronal of Uvaeren.

-7609 DRDespite the increasingly vocal demands to

abandon the city and save its many

    priceless treasures, the dogmatic stance

by the Coronal and her advisory council

infuriates many lesser Moon and Gold Elf

nobles. One in particular, the High Mage

Oluvaera Mistriven decides to take thingsinto her own hands. During the abortive

coup the Coronal, most of the elder

matriarchs and High Mage Oluvaera are

slain in a cataclysmic explosion that

demolishes much of the Palace of Dreams.

The surviving senior nobles elect a more

    moderate thinking ruler, the Songknight,

    Paerisia Irithyl who immediately orders

the cataloguing and securing of Ilodhars

many artifacts. Many items are sent to

Uvaeren, the Elven Court, Yrlaancel and

    Jhyrennstar.

-7557 DRLady Paerisia orders the people to begin a

full evacuation of the city. The last od the

original Gold Elf families choose to stay

and defend their holdings. As if to

emphasise the point trying to be made by

the Coronal, a large migrating horde of

goblins manages to slip into the tunnels

and basements of the abandoned parts of

the city, setting many fires before they are

finally routed. Lady Paerisia and many

lesser priests and mages are killed saving

the city from being consumed in a

    growing conflagration. The Duskblade

    Phormloan Haladar becomes the citys

Araegisses in the absence of a coronal or

rulers council. He immediately orders the

rebuilding of some of the citys key strong

points whilst at the same time ordering

    those not capable of defending

themselves be sent east to Uvaeren.

-7400 DRIlodhar falls under an orc horde this year.

The Third Rysar of Uvaeren begins after

the sudden death of Coronal Valaer while

hunting. His Orcish arrow ridden body is

found floating headless on a muddy pool

in the eastern Dagger Hills. The new

    Coronal, the Bladesinger, Kiyuigh Rivleam

is more militarily disposed, and beginsproactively attacking orcs and giants in

the mountains and hills to the west of the

    vale.

-7213 DRAfter hundreds of years of bitter warfare

the last great giant citadel within the

    Moonspires is destroyed. The conquering

armies of Uvaeren and Braceldaur return

to a triumphant welcome tinged with

sadness, baring the body of Coronal Teirist

through the streets of Braceldaur. With

the armies of both realms backing his bid,

    Araegisses Prince Kavanor Taurntyrith is

    crowned by Coronal Kiyuigh, thus

beginning the 4th rysar of Braceldaur.

-6900 DRCoronal Kiyuigh dies beneath the claws of

Brown Landwyrm on his 100th foray into

the mountains. The Fourth Rysar of

Uvaeren starts with the new Coronal, the

blind Great Scholar Eltaor, who restores

Uvaerens reputation as a learned realm

beginning by building the Earath Library &

    Hall of Scribes.

    -6568 DR

Unusually heavy spring rains pour flood

waters down the River Verire sweeping

    away dozens of bankside settlements.

The floods sweep into the Moon Mere

flood plain, causing it to break its banks

and flow on through the city streets. In

    response the local elementalists harness

the powers of the river to clear up the

flood waters and guarantee that such a

natural event would ever trouble the city

    again.

6300 DRThe Coronal Eltaor dies by a poisoned

    palimpset. Investigations reveal the

murderer to be the Coronals, chief

    advisor and longtime friend, Amalthior

Aelorith. The killer flees west to hidden

holdings in the High Forest where he

disappears. The Fifth Rysar of Uvaeren

sees the election of the young, vibrant

    Coronal Intevar Rivleam.

The Gilden Librarium of Tyrithtael is

    completed, and quickly becomes the

largest library of Elven art, literature and

music within Arcorar. Many art and

    architecture students from Uvaeren

(including Lord Intevar), come north to

study within the Tyrithtael Academy of

Arts taking many new ideas with them

    back to that growing realm.

-6000 DRThe chief speaker of the Oracles of the

Crimson Sun after months of disturbing

dreams, warns Coronal Intevar that the

end of Uvaeren in closer than he may wish

    to acknowledge. Heeding the speakers

warnings, Lord Intevar orders his Lore

wardens to seek a solution to his citys

predicted coming demise. In response the

    chief Lore Lord, Ashkalea Durothil

suggests the building of a sister

settlement on the far side of Selune to be

used as a final redoubt by the people and

as a hidden cache of the deepest secrets

of the lore held within the citys manylibraries and vaults.

-5880 DRConvicted of heresy after refusing to

    follow her own temples teachings,

Coronal Deannara abdicates in favour of

her nephew, from Uvaeren the High Mage

    Eltgorn Durothil. Dethroned and

defrocked, the outcast Lady Deannarachooses exile on Evermeet rather than risk

    harming her unborn child.

    -5800 DRUvaerens Coronal contracts geomancers

and Lore Masters from Uvaeren and

Braceldaur to begin building the vaults

and halls of the greatest library ever seen

in Arcorar. Spreading over several hides of

land both above and below ground,

Intervars Library as it has come to be

known takes 35 years to complete, has 27

halls, 19 vaults, a dozen academies and

schools, runs to at least 1000 feet below

the ground and has the support facilities

for nearly 5000 staff and students. The

calls goes out for lore to be gathered from

all the great libraries of Elfdom (and

beyond) and as each new scrap of lore is

gathered, a copy is sent to the vaults of

both Ilodhar and Braceldaur as a surety

    against possible disaster. (A third

repository is located off world on the far

side of Selune linked to the Librarium via

a carefully hidden and guarded gate.)

-5700 DRTales of Intevars Librarium in Uvaeren

spread throughout all elven lands, as this

    allegedly contains the collective

knowledge of the elves. The burgeoning

Librarium is expanded seven times in

order to accommodate the ever increasing

numbers of students and scholars comingto the Librarium and to hold the vast

stores of knowledge they bring as part of

their right to study at the librarys many

    halls.

-5660 DRIntevars Librarium and some strongholds

in Uvaeren are attacked by greedy elven

wizards from Siluvanede seekingknowledge of the Hidden High Magics of

Aryvandaar thought to be held by the Lore

Wardens, but to no avail. However, Lord

Intevar dies of a poisoned wound received

defending his wife and her young children,

ending the Fifth Rysar. Arriving too late to

save his cousin, Lord Eltgorn and a

contingent of Moon & Song Knights and

Battle Magi arrive to secure the library

and Uvaerens throne until a new Coronalcan be crowned. The newest Coronal of

the Sixth Rysar is his apprentice and young

wife, the Lady Mnuvae Audark. Shocked

at this brazen and cowardly attack upon

her family, Lady Mnuvae sends her

children west to live with her sister in

    distant Evereska, safe from the

machinations of the Dladrageths and their

    demon tainted followers.

-5300 DRThe city of Uvaeren celebrates the

building of new academy dedicated to the

creation of new and peaceful applications

of magic through music and song. Whilst

at the same time Lady Mnuvae and a

small core groiup of Lore Wardens speed

up the transfer of the realms lore to other

    respositories, including the redoubt on

    Selune.

-5000 DRThe Twelve Nights of Fire(Midsummer):Uvaeren is destroyed by a falling star

whose impact opens a 100-mile-long and

    30-mile-wide clearing in Cormanthor.s

treeline. The Coronal and nearly all of its

noble houses die instantly or during the

conflagration. Less than one third of the

Uvaeranni escape to the safety of deeper

Arcorar. A few dozen survivors join withthe Sharn taking many of the elves

greatest secrets with them before it is

consumed in the great firestorm sweeping

away the realm. Whilst much of the

    surface realm including the Moonlight

Mere is erased from the map, most of the

deeper vaults not directly struck by the

    meteor fragments survive virtually intact.

Rystall Wood becomes a separate forest

and realm after the Twelve Nights of Fire

clear away the mountain and hill trees

that attached it to Arcorar. While an

independent forest now, its Coronal still

convenes often with the leaders of Elven

    Court.

-1950 DRFighting a drow incursion into the western

    woods, Coronal Sakrattars sacrifices

himself to create a blood dragon and

destroy the massive horde of drow

occupying the last ruins of Uvaeren and

the Twisted Tower (though not the Tower

    itself).

-1720 DRNetherese wizards arrive near the blasted

ruins of Uvaeren, fleeing something they

are transformed into wraiths; the few

survivors flee but are all persued by

vengeful Elven Spirits. They die within two

years after uncovering a hidden library

cache and unwittingly setting loose some

    of its magical defenses.

-1354 DRUnified armies of Rystal Wood and

    Cormanthyr infiltrate and rout the

majority of the drow forces around and

under the lands of Rystall, Uvaeren's

ruins, and the Old Skull, the granite crag

within the hills that lie in the clearings

among the three forests. However, they

    cannot penetrate the Twisted Tower,

    allowing many drow to escape.

Built upon the shores of a shallow mere deep in the heart of a primal sea of trees, the

library city of Uvaeren started out as a colony of Ilohdar founded by refugees from

Aryvandaar. Lead by the High Mage Erthalas Ulvaer Rivleam who sought above all a place

where he and his followers could live in peace in their never-ending pursuit of knowledge

for its own sake. Hidden deep within its pristine valley, the city grew slowly and flourished

as students and those seeking knowledge came from far and wide. It was required that all

who came to live and study within one of the many schools within the city had to bring new

lore to be shared. Be it a poem, song, work of art, spell or even some esoteric lore from afar away land, all knowledge was welcome. The city never once suffered attack by any

enemy nor was it ever touched by natural disaster.

In time the inhabitants of the city built many beautiful libraries and buildings of

breathtaking design. It was said by some that Uvaeren, the City of Lore was perhaps even

more beautiful that Lothen, Sharlarion or Aelinthaldaar at the height of its glory. Many

buildings and tree homes raised within the city were later copied en masse in Elven towns

and settlements throughout the heart lands. So that echoes of the architectural glory of the

realm continued long after the realm had faded to a distant memory.

The city proper was filled with meandering tree and statue lined boulevards, with stately

halls, towers, villas and tree homes overlooking sweeping parks and flower filled gardens.

Wildlife of all descriptions were happy to wander the many avenues and paths; dear, elk,

black, moon and sun bears, lynx, rabbits, and birds of all descriptions felt at complete ease

within the citys boundary. The citys non-violent nature also encouraged a large population

of pixies, brownies, sprites and other mischievous spirits to call Uvaeren home. Despite the

constant pranks and small scale disruptions that occurred on a daily basis the People of the

city welcomed the free spirited vitality the fey folk brought.

The heart of the city was the Rainbow Palace, a repository of Lore rivalled only by Intervars

Librarium. Grown from glittering theurcrystal sown through with gems of a hundred

sparkling hues, the palaces many glittering towers shone night and day with shimmering

faerie fire. At night the radiance of the palace would light the entire mere, but on summer

nights at the time of the full moon, the lights would de dimmed so that the stairways to the

moon could form. The palace had its own mantle that protected both its structural integrity

and all the lore contained within. During the destruction of the realm it was here that theSharn appeared to rescue not only the lore wardens and their students but also much of the

lore contained in the vaults beneath the Palace. What happened to the lore the Sharn

collected has never been revealed, but when the palace was finally consumed by the fires,

its extensive vaults were all but empty.

    Intevars Librarium

Spreading over several hides of land both above and below ground, Intervars Library as it

has come to be known takes 35 years to complete, has 27 halls, 19 vaults, a dozen

academies and schools, runs to at least 1000 feet below the ground and has the supportfacilities for nearly 5000 staff and students. The calls goes out for lore to be gathered from

disaster. (A third repository is located off world on the far side of Selune linked to the

Librarium via a carefully hidden and guarded gate.)

    Ashvael

Located at the heart of the vale, this small village of orchardists, silk growers and farmers

sits astride a deep gorge some 500 yards long and almost as many deep. The village properexists within, across and above the gorge in spacious caverns, timber halls and tree homes.

Located at the bottom of this dry gorge are the remains of a giant, demonic looking statue.

Just who or what the glaive wielding giant with the bulbous red eye and jutting yellow fangs

represents, is a mystery to all but the few elves of the region who have travelled to the

islands of Wa. The gorge itself is criss-crossed with silk rope and timber bridges and ladders

that, like a spiders web link the many levels of this narrow, vertical village. The people here

are a mixture of Green and Moon Elves with the few Forest Gnomes scattered amongst the

tree roots of the forest giants that line the gorge. The area around the village is filled with

orchards, vineyards, bee hives, mulberry bushes thick with cocoons, and vegetable and herb

gardens if infinite variety. The climate around the gorge is much warmer than thesurrounding lands thanks to the continuous flow of warm volcanic air that flows up from the

seam of super heated rocks some 10000 feet below. This makes it possible for the local

villagers to grow food stuff that would not normally survive the harsh winter frosts of this

    region.

    Maelorynn

A magical place of roaring cataracts, silky mists and fireflies, the village of Maelorynn

overlooks the Seharael Falls, a series of small waterfalls that pour over a steep, fern and

orchard filled cliff that is home to swarms of sprites and is literally aglow with fire-flies in

summer. This Green Elf tree town of towering oak trees is linked via a series of rope

ladders and bridges. The whole area is considered sacred to Solonor and Hanali and the

locals are quite proactive in their protection of the sight. Behind the largest fall is a small

cavern that on moonlit nights becomes a oneway gate to Hanalis realm in Arvandor. How

and why this gate is here is known only to the priests and druids who guard the falls. It is

said however that both Elf deities will appear through the gate to defend the people if ever

they are threatened. Known to only a few, the falls are one of the few places where Hanali

and Solonor can meet without the disapproving eyes of Corellon falling upon them. Just

why the two seek such divine privacy is never discussed and it is forbidden to do so within

the bounds of the community itself.

    Talytholme

The seven ringed citadel of Talytholme, with its 21 interlinked black granite towers and

central keep is home to a mysterious sect of High Magi and Spellsingers dedicated to the

study of the darker sides of High and Song Magic. This shadowy and foreboding place is

filled with teachers, students, researchers and an entire community dedicated to and

supportive of the work done here. Outsiders are unwelcome and visitors few, the intricate

web of spellwebs and mantles that surround the citadel make sure that only the chosen few

make sure of this. Perpetually in misty shadow this twilight land is only tolerated by the

Lore Lords because of its unwavering and implacable loyalty to the Coronal. Necromantic

and shadow aspects of magic are explored and researched; this includes the forbidden

works or the Vyshaan. Agents from Talytholme are to be found throughout the lands

inhabited by the people looking for and hunting down those who would wish to research

and unleash the worst abuses of Vyshaan and Ilythiiri high magic. The vaults of Talytholme

are rumoured to hold many of the horrors unleashed during the first four crown wars

contained within heavily warded and deeply buried dead magic fields. But these are justrumours...

    Pevinscross

When the Elves first came west to Arcorar they came across a community of savage Rock

Gnomes who had fallen to savagery and cannibalism. After the first few Elvish envoys and

scouts failed to return after encounters with these savage smallfolk. What ensued was a

bitter little guerrilla war that saw dozens of unsuspecting elves and their animals end up on

the dinner tables of the subterranean bone crunchers. Led by the demonic gnome

halfbreed, Pevin Skullsmasher, the deranged rock gnomes were eventually wiped out and

Pevin brought to heel in a mighty battle with Green Elf rangers deep beneath the clearing in

which Pevinscross now stands. The current village surrounds are large burial mound that

contains the ashes of the more than 500 elves who died in the dirty little war. Atop this

grass and flower covered mound is a menhir raised up to commemorate the fallen. This

granite pillar stands 12 feet high and is covered in highly detailed pictographs and Miyeratan

    glyphs.

    Moonspire Cathedral.

The most awe inspiring temple to the Moon Maiden ever raised east of Mhilamniir, the

Moonspire was raised to mark the spot where the Lady herself, along with the three other

Ladies of the Moon danced at moonrise, on the evening the Elven Court was proclaimed. Abubbling spring of sparkling, crystal clear water rose upon the sight and formed a small

moonpool which is now located at the center of the temple. This most holy of sites is

frequented by pilgrims from all across Faerun by followers of Sehanine, Selune, Eilistraee

and another masked lady whose name is known only to her followers. The temple and its

surrounding community of priests and lay worshippers number more than 1000 beings and

the pilgrim road brings much wealth and the sharing of knowledge from all across the globe.

The village of moonspire boasts several hostleries, a concert hall, an observatory, a hospital,

vintners hall, a school and the largest ecclesiastical and genealogical library outside of

Illefarn. Its burial vaults are said to be guarded by baelorn priests of the various gods whose

servants dwell here and the records kept here are often engraved onto nearly indestructible

sheets of mithrantine and stored in magically protected vaults deep beneath the crypts and

    guarded by their occupants.

    Briarwood

A merry little settlement of tree dweeling Green and Moon Elf fisher folk, the community of

Briarwood saddles the wide and deep, fish and oyster filled pools of the river hereabouts.

The peace loving people here are more than ready to defend themselves with spear, bow,

net or sling. There are no ground dwellings here but many leaf boats and boat sheds along

with the accompanying fishnet and traps are found all along both sides of the river for atleast a mile in both directions. Freshwater pearls and pearl shell are major products much

sought after by Gold and Moon Elf merchants from Uvaeren who eagerly come here to

trade bringing with them those items used by the Briarfolk but not made here. The local

elementalists control the river levels and currents are have stored in case or emergencies at

least 100 earth, air, and water elementals that they can call upon to help defend the village

    whilst the people flee.

    Burial Vaults of Uvaeren

Here the nobles and well to do of Uvaeren buried their dead in great barrows and cryptswithin the hills at the northeastern End of the Uvaeren Vale. The many dozens of family

vaults, crypts, barrows and tombs are all heavily warded and most have their own cunning

and deadly traps, defences and guardians. It is said that the greatest collection of learned

undead is gathered here, and many a scholar has come here to consult the many sage

ancestors who either refuse to or cannot rest for the want of knowledge.

    Moonlight Mere

This shallow, reed lined lake is home to a thriving community of lake house dwelling fisher

folk who make a living fishing and making weave ware from the reeds. Their deftly made

timber and thatch round houses sit upon stilts out within the middle of the lake and are

reached via leafs boats, rafts and small canoes. The people here owe allegiance to the

nobles of Uvaeren but pay their edicts little heed. Waterfowl and fish abound upon this lake

and on summer nights during a full moon when the lakes level is lowest a moonlight

staircase forms upon the sand flats at the in front of Inteva rs Librarium, a stair that is said

by some to be a gateway to the moon.

    Trohiilaern

The extensive tree town of Trohiilaern, a place of dozens on interconnecting tree halls,

homes and flets sit upon a ridge riddled with tombs of powerful wizards, spellblades,

spellsingers and High Magi. The heavily populated village of Duskwoods, Chime Oaks, and

Shadowtop trees looks down upon the Trondillaran College and Library. This large citadel of

soaring towers and a central red granite hall of seven pointed spires, is home to a school of

independent Green Elf spell casters who practice magic that works with and enhances the

power of nature and the elements. The 800 odd teachers and students are ardent

defenders of this northern most Uvaeren outpost and act as guardians for the many

hundreds of tombs that dot the hills hereabouts. The college is famous for the quality of its

spellcasters, the originality of its spells, and the creative majesty of the magical items

produced here. Many of these return to the college with the bodies of their creators andare often interred beneath Running Rocks, the ridge upon which the tree town sits. Noted

amongst the more powerful items created here are the Seven Rings of Trondilar and the

    Ruby Rod of Ilorath.

    The Living Woods

Home to all manner of Fey creatures, the Living Woods sits at one of the great fey cross

roads of the forest. The heart of the Woods is a huge fey mound surrounded by twin circles

of standing stones. The woods abound with all manner of ffolk including the odd leshay

druid or two. Many treants, dryads, hamadryads and other tree spirits make this area of

forest one rarely visited by any beings not directly connected to the area. The area is also

    17/24

    17

known for its herds of unicorns and pegasi who come here to breed and raise their young.

Within the woods, necromantic magic simply does not work, whilst spells and powers from

the enchantment school works at double its normal effects and is often permanent

duration. Beings have wandered into this stretch of forest only to emerge years or even

centuries later. The Living Wood is a coursing ground of the High Hunt and frequently plays

host to visits from the nobles and rulers of the Seelie Court. At the north western edge of

the woods sits a bare rock shaped like the top of a great alabaster skull, nearby sits a granite

outcropping, an ancient volcanic plug which sits astride a vast network of lava vents and an

underground stream that emerges nearby. The Dark Elves of Maerymdra sometimes use

this isolated spot as an exit to the surface world, but always with great caution for the fey

spirits of the Seelie Court hold no love for the children of the Spider Queen.

    The Barrow Hills

Hidden amongst the heavily wooded hills and valleys are hundreds of tombs and barrows of

great antiquity. The people have been using the woods to guard their dead since the first Elf

bands arrived in the area. Many stone circles and temples to the gods of nature abound in

this fey place. Hidden within the tree are several tree spirit guardians. Animated and

sentient golem like creatures defend the treasures of those interred in hollowed out

caverns, sepulchres and catacombs. The tombs here all follow a similar pattern. They are all

built set into the sides of large earthen mounds some as high as 50 or more feet high. The

internal walls and ceilings are slabs marble or granite. The floors are either bare earth or

paved with granite slabs. The entrances are narrow with a low ceiling and steps down into

the tomb proper. Each tomb contains between 5 and 20 bodies, packed tightly into all

available niches. Earthen mounds covering the chambers of stone are covered in bracken,

with many fractured by tree roots. The mounds come in a variety of shapes. A simple domeis typical, but a complex geometric or animal shape is not infrequent. To the untrained eye,

even the most elaborate mound can look like natural hills, especially as most are overgrown

with trees and weeds. A few barrows, those more carefully hidden hold the remains of

    more powerful individuals and families.

The greatest barrows rest beneath large natural looking hills. Set into the sides of these hill

are cunningly hidden stone, bronze, mithral or adamantine doors. The inward opening doors

are covered in life like bas-relief carvings often depicting scenes from the afterlife. The

doors surfaces are strangely untarnished and radiate powerful abjuration magics. The

interior of the barrows are very different from the exterior. The walls are covered inpaintings and murals of scenes of the history of the clan or individual buried, devoid of

cracks, dust, dirt or tree roots. Often a prayer chapel of ornate yet simple beauty stands just

inside the entrance hiding the doors to the inner burial and funerary chambers of the tomb.

No barrow of the great ones is ever unguarded, and many watchnorns and baelnorns make

their final resting places here. Outside of the Vale of Lost Voices, the Barrow Hills are the

most haunted place in all Cormanthor.

    Grove of Darkness

This wild region of killer trees, malevolent spirits, evil treants and strangleweed is the sightof ancient barrows and lost peoples. The eldritch and ancient trees here date back millennia

    18

and are amongst the oldest in all Arcorar. They are also the angriest and hate all two legged

beings equally. The Eldar Treants at the heart of the grove are all powerful druids with long

memories. The outer woods are guarded by Elven rangers and druids who warn others

away from this fey and dangerous place. Several fey mounds can be found within this the

dark heart of western Arcorar, and at least one fey cross road with links to the Unseelie

Court can be found within the gloomy, hate filled woods.

River Verire (adapted from Jorkens of Candlekeep & Elminsters Ecologies by Ed Greenwood)

Flowing east from the Dagger Hills the River Verire cuts the forest roughly in half and is

several hundred yards across, and deep, more than 30' in places. Its banks slope steeply in

most places making crossing and access difficult. As it slowly flows through the ancient elven

woods, parts of its waters constantly runs out into creeks and springs between the ancient

trees and more comes into the river from others. Every spring, the heavy rains have a

chance of causing the river to flood its banks, although the flooding is not severe, but it will

cause hundreds of fish and frogs to become stranded in the muddy river banks. The riverwith its heavily wooded banks with the shadowy overhangs of rhododendron and willow has

always been the safest form of natural transportation and there has been always been more

traffic on the river than on the forest paths.

Lore of LightLore Storage DevicesAmong the more obscure of the legendary library methods of Uvaeren were:

chimes keyed to play certain multiple Elven melodies that gave far more information

than their lyrics ever could (by association of the tunes and the pitch at which the

    chimes were set)

a stone mural spanning an open-air temple that shows a massive crowd of armoured

elves walking in a scene of clouds, wind, rustling trees, and waving grass (100

different legends and warnings are there in ancient Elven racial scripts, visible onlyunder certain lighting conditions or by infravision. Of course, one has to know four

different millennia-dead written languages to pick out the words from a carving of

    intricate chain mail links on one figure among hundreds);

a clear, smooth-surfaced crystal spindle as tall as an elf. Its interior was inexplicably

carved seemingly from within with faceted pictographs that change their appearance

and meaning with a shift of light or viewpoint, allowing the full history of a clan to be

placed in plain view but not be revealed to any who did not know how to read such

    Lightlore.

Taken from CormanthyrEmpire of the Elves by Steven E Schend and Kevin Melka

Ruby Rod of IlorathThis 70 inch long, red crystalline baton is topped by a fist sized egg shaped ruby that

sparkles with an inner fire. Aside from its powers as a staff of fire, the Rod is able to

summon and control up to 100 HD of fire elemental based creatures per day for up to 144

turns and is used to control the Crystalline Shield Guardians that are located throughout

almost every library, tomb and vault within Uvaeren. The rods greatest power was to allow

the realms Grand mage to bypass every ward and high magic mantle and spellweb laid

down within the vale....and perhaps even beyond.

Seven Rings of TrondilarThese seven matching rings are forged from intricately carved adamantine and inscribed on

the inside with arcane Elvish runes. Each ring is linked to both its wearer and the other six

rings. Originally created to allow high mages to work in close concert when working in

adverse conditions or over long distances (including other planes), the rings bond with the

wearer until death or voluntarily surrendered. The rings allow each wearer to know the

exact location of all the other ring wearers at all times, and allow instant mental

communication. At the same time the ring wearers can teleport without error to another

ring wearers location, or to summon them to their own location if that is their wish or if thering wearer in incapacitated in some way. (Which all other wearers will be instantly be

aware of). The rings also have the powers of a mindblank spell, protection from evil and

    spell turning.

Sehanines Silver CrownThis delicate silver circlet, set with a single large pearl in the fore-crown was Sehanines gift

to the first coronal of Uvaeren. Its powers are designed to provide protection and insight

    for the realms ruler.

The wearer is protected by a mantle that absorbs all incoming hostile magic and

converts it into spell energy usable by the wearer to power their own spells or to

heal 1 hp per spell level absorbed.

The circlet allows the wearer to use mage sight, true sight, detect lie and legend lore

    at will.

The wearer is able to project an image just as Baelnorn do and is able to cast spell

through it too.Lastly the wearer can teleport w/o error, use a 30

thlevel stone skin, and fly at 36/B

up to three times per day each.

Rulers Staff of UvaerenCarved from a single piece of Cloud Yew heart wood, this rather plain looking staff is shod at

one end by a cold iron shoe, whilst at the other end a single rough cut kiira gem bound by a

basket of cold iron knot work adorns the other end.. The staff has all the powers of a staff

of the magi and a staff of scrivening, but its main purpose is to record everything that

transpires within a 1000 yard radius in exact detail. This includes thoughts, words, deeds,

spells, powers, illusions, true forms, scrying attempts and the like. All knowledge garnered

is stored within the kiira at the head of the staff and later transferred after review to various

storage devices. This staff discerns falsehoods and illusions in all their forms so that what is

seen in replay is the actual event right down to the breakdown of a spells components, who

is scrying and from where and what mental powers were used and by whom. Only the ruler

of Uvaeren may use this staff and a portion of their personality is absorbed into the staff as

a wraith like being capable of performing tasks for the wielder including protecting them

from harm.. The staff wielder must undergo a bonding ritual or be blessed by Sehanine.

They are able to summon the staff at will from anywhere upon the same plane.

Intevars Everclear CodexThis simple tome is 18x10x6 thick, made of cured sky blue dragon hide embossed with

the twin sigils of Houses Rivleam and Audark is a list of magic items. Bound by bronze

corner pieces and clasp the tome when first opened appears to be a long list of nonsense

written in the arcane language of the high magi of old Sharlarion. To those without the

bloodline of Intevar or his wife the codex is nothing but gibberish. But when read by one

who knows how the book reveals itself to be a complete list of every magical item every

created or gathered within the vaults of the realm. Each entry appears either glowing a softgreen blue, or a dull leaden grey. Turning the pages reveals nothing but more gibberish, but

calling up a listed item causes ancient Elvish script to appear that if able to be read reveals

an detailed description of the original form of the item, a brief history of its creation and

creator, its original purpose and general powers and and within which vault it was originally

stored. A glowing entry reveals that the item is still active and in existance upon Toril, grey

entries let the reader know that the item is either destroyed, no longer magical or hot upon

the planet. The book is apparently indestructible having survived a meteor strike and being

stolen by the Sharn. It is said to lie inside Intevars Tomb, wherever that may be and

whenever it has been stolen, the thieves have been hunted down and slain by watchnorns

and the wraiths of previous thieves who have attempted to steal the book in times past. In

each case the book has reappeared on a restored Intevars Stone Coffin within days of its

    theft.
