Using the Scientific Method in Solving a Problem in our Baranggay Problem: Accumulation of garbage at the back of our 5- storey apartment building. Data: Our family noticed that the once fresh-smelling air and abundant fireflies which were present around our apartment complex are no longer around. These beautiful insects were replaced by Dengue-carrying mosquitos which have multiplied around the area. Hypothesis: The widespread throwing of garbage by many residents from the higher floors of our building on the empty lot at the back of our building is causing the air to be polluted and has also driven away the fireflies and attracted mosquitos. Experimental Procedure: We observed that many residents were not used to bringing their garbage to the garbage bin, since this required them to walk down a considerable distance to the area. This is the main reason why people avoided the hassle of bringing their smelly waste materials by themselves to the designated area, choosing instead to conveniently throw them at the back of the building whenever needed. Conclusion: The construction of a garbage chute on the upper floors (from the 2 nd floor to the 5 th ) will definitely eliminate, or at least minimize the throwing of garbage by residents and this will also result in the removal of an attractive breeding ground for mosquitos.

Using the Scientific Method in Solving a Problem in our Baranggay

Problem:Accumulation of garbage at the back of our 5-storey apartment building.

Data:Our family noticed that the once fresh-smelling air and abundant fireflies which were present around our apartment complex are no longer around. These beautiful insects were replaced by Dengue-carrying mosquitos which have multiplied around the area.

Hypothesis:The widespread throwing of garbage by many residents from the higher floors of our building on the empty lot at the back of our building is causing the air to be polluted and has also driven away the fireflies and attracted mosquitos.

Experimental Procedure:We observed that many residents were not used to bringing their garbage to the garbage bin, since this required them to walk down a considerable distance to the area. This is the main reason why people avoided the hassle of bringing their smelly waste materials by themselves to the designated area, choosing instead to conveniently throw them at the back of the building whenever needed.

Conclusion:The construction of a garbage chute on the upper floors (from the 2nd floor to the 5th) will definitely eliminate, or at least minimize the throwing of garbage by residents and this will also result in the removal of an attractive breeding ground for mosquitos.
